      Also keep in mind that the majority of gold held was dug out of the ground or panned out of rivers by people who got their gold stamped into coin as a free service provided by the government. You gave them your raw gold and got back shinny coins, with the US logo and a dollar denomination on them. The government had zero claim on that gold, which made it The Greatest Government GOLD HEIST In Our History.

      @@dwaindibley4137 That's an excellent point! Although, I don't think anyone could quantify the amount of gold stamped by citizens who brought their own gold versus gold purchased outright by the mint. Regardless, it's is still a gold heist perpetrated against US citizens and it was criminal.

Also the coins cost more to produce than they were worth after 1933. Like you said, a lot of people voluntarily gave up their gold, and it honestly wasen't strongly enforced if you had more than $100. Most of the BU pre-33 gold today came from vaults in Europe. One aspect of the Bank Holiday was while there was clouser all of the Banks, opened up the safe deposit boxes and removed all of the gold coins and gold certificate paper which Farmers were storing as a form of collateral for future corp and farm needs. A reasonably successful crop yield would provide funds to pay off bills or notes incurred and what was excess was converted into gold and silver coins as well as paper depending on availability in the bank. So when planting seeds needed or animals or extra land for planting the coinage stored was used to provide a good faith promise it was called leveraging today. Some silver and gold were carried home to act as living funds. A successful farmer had a painted house as well as a barn, a good size kitchen garden, and fruit trees shrubs, and vines. These were for Family consumption. A lot of Farmers lost their Farm due to not being able to turn to their personal saved wealth. One of the main reasons Farmers are not friendly to the Democratic Party FDR was a four-letter word.

    I have a genuine question (I'm not American nor old enough to know all details). If most people delivered their Gold to the Government with this confiscation, how come there are so many pre-1933 Gold coins around still. I regularly see them for sale also here in Europe. Does it mean that at some point the Gvnmt released those coins selling them back to the public? Or does it mean that in reality many more people than we think have not actually followed instructions and kept their Gold instead?
    Thank you for your video, as always.

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  Před 2 lety +13

      Great question. Many wealthy families knew this law was coming down the pipeline and they sent their gold to Europe ahead of it passing. I also think many people kept their coins in secret. The government did not release these coins back to the public because the gold confiscated was melted down for repayment and for reserves. Another portion is there were a lot of coins minted for certain years. While a lot were melted down, these coins were hardly eliminated. Some dates and mints were but some are fairly abundant. What's unknown is how much gold was sent overseas and/or held in secret. I hope this sheds some light on the issue and I appreciate you watching.

We need to learn why printing new currency is the worst and most unfair form of taxation, is taxation paid ONLY by the poor young people! Rich people have GOLD, STOCKS, CRYPTO, LANDS HOUSES AND BUSINESSES, poor people have only their salary and by printing salaries are LOSING their purchasing power, while everything else becomes more expensive. At $1,863 an ounce I'll keep digging. After 1933 I assume the gold rush was played out and everyone stopped looking. My goal is to get to Nome Alaska and pick up where they left off. Since no roads go there like California's rush I consider it like going where only a few have.
    Isn't there a gold coin that's illegal to have?

      I don't believe so. We had constitutional silver produced all the way through 1964. I think he limited silver production from time to time due to the war effort and I know one couldn't buy platinum during the war due to it being a strategic metal. Maybe with silver bullion but I haven't heard anything.
