    Valorant was a big factor. EU didn’t embrace that game like NA did and I feel like not only did we lose a significant amount of the tier 2 NA pro players who were next up for a chance at tier 1, Valorant is more kid friendly meaning a lot of the young kids who could’ve ended up being the future of the NA Counter Strike scene are playing Valorant instead. Most of the kids i encountered at my old daycare job/my mom's class whenever I went in at the end of the year were not interested in CSGO/2 because of how realistic it was. Half the kids today are allowed to play literally anything, their moms just give them a small allowance of stuff they can buy a month on the condition they get left alone after work(recipe for disaster, I know.) So almost every kid prefers games like warzone/GTA where it has the mature rating so they feel like rebels playing it/games like valorant and fortnite that are a lot more colorful to them. Meanwhile cs doesn't have the colors/characters of valorant/fortnite and doesn't have the rebel mature rating of warzone/GTA. So they don't even know it exist despite having gaming computers before reaching double digits in age

    You hit the nail on the head toward the end. It's a cultural thing. Esports is a life changing opportunity in EU, where here in the US you're laughed at and lack support (specifically speaking Counter Strike) from your parents if you DO choose that route. But that won't change anything until big orgs see the potential and make it the way it is in EU.. an actual career in esports.

    Well as a finnish person i can say that why we have so many faceit level 10s in our kinda low populated country mostly comes down to the weather, for like 8months a year the weather is so awful that we dont really care to go outside and just prefer to play indoors. also so many houses have optical fiber internet that makes us play maxium of 30ping in many games. so i guess that helps. I started my cs journey when i was like 11 or 12 years old when i was on my grandpas house and my older cousin brought his laptop there. and now after 11years still playing

    • @Rotwold
      @Rotwold Před 24 dny

      @@philiprennert7730and I would add that USA have a huge gaming industry pumping out a large number of quality games. This means that a lot of games compete for the player base of the American market, spreading the players out to different titles . It's easier for game publishers to run their own tournaments in USA, simply due to it being a single country. In contrast, the European player base is spread out over multiple countries and much of the competition is organized by private entities. I think Europe naturally gravitated to CS because it was cheap enough that everyone could afford it, could be run on most PCs and didn't require you to buy the latest release every two years like COD.

    As a person from eu (Poland), I can say that in our country there has always been a culture of playing cs. Why? Mainly due to the fact that it was the only (free) popular shooter not for consoles in the years 2000-2010. In subsequent years it just stayed with us. The next generations played what we played. This seems to me as the only reason not counting the stars from our country who inspired us (for poland: old VP - 2014 - 2018)

    I honestly think that the pro scene would be more balanced if covid never happened. 2019 saw 2 NA teams make top 3 and the short Liquid era that drove my personal love for the game since I started playing in the middle of 2018. When 2020 came around, along with covid, valorant came and a sizeable chunk out of the NA tier 2-3 scene. There were so many young players that made the switch and ever since then, you don't hear much about new NA prospects and there aren't many visible teams that compete in higher level tournaments.
    The cultural impact thing is also important as well. Many of my friends who barely played CS picked up Valorant and played much longer and grinded since there were more and more people in the Southern California region where I live that it became somewhat of a norm. It reminds me of the League of Legends esports landscape. Every time I talk to any Koreans, whether it be friends or strangers, they know or play league of legends. When I visit korea and I go into PC cafes, I can almost be assured that half of the people there are playing League and it reflects on the pro scene as well. Every team that has won worlds, outside of the first 2, has had a Korean Mid Laner. And that's just the Mid Lane as well.

    bit late, but something i thought i could add as well is that europe isn't a monolith. take the uk for example, a lot of our population, if they play games, do so on consoles with cod and fifa especially being the games of choice. i knew maybe one other person in my childhood with a home computer, everyone else had an xbox, and there were no lan cafes anywhere near me when i grew up, and there's maybe one now.
    also our general culture and egos (as well as often terrible infrastructure) means a lot of players don't have great setups which are more important in modern cs, and a lot of people in the scene, at least when i was playing actively, and including myself, had this belief that we were so great and skilled at the game that we would just naturally achieve anything whilst we languished in open and inters, and by the time we're 18-21, everybody's basically given up playing anything but casually so other than a handful of players nobody ever gets very far before they hang up the mouse to get a normal job

    Video games such as CS has been an accepted career path in EU for a long time now and in NA its still looked down on. People in NA dont feel like its viable a lot of the time and wont even pursue it while it tends to be quite the opposite from what ive heard in EU. Career accessibility matters, obviously its not the whole story but its a massive reason for sure

    To unwind furher: PC gaming has been much more popular in Europe compared to US since the 80s, even moreso before social media existed. Why is that? My hypothesis is that because of how divided Europe marketing by Atari and Nintendo was much more difficult here so they started in US meanwhile grassroots home computer already took over the gaming market in Europe.

    I don't mean this in a negative way to my friends across the pond, but I've played in NA too when I went there a couple years ago. The friend I visited was NA LEM and I was a EU DMG.
    I consistently dominated every single game and in the three weeks I was there he ranked up to GE and I did too. When I came back home I simply dropped back to LEM and stayed there for a bit because I couldn't keep up with the GEs in Europe.

    When it comes to slavic countries there's still a big scene in 1.6 just because the game is so easy to run and you can play competitively on a 15 year old pc. A lot of ~40yo guys played it when they were young and still do if they didn't transition onto the newer games, so imagine if the only thing you ever saw played on a pc as a kid was Counter-Strike and when you get older you can try playing it on your own. You obviously wanna be the best and you have a lot of free time after school to practice. That's where all the young EU talent is coming from, at least from my perspective because I've been in that position. Some schools even help organize tournaments for the students in whatever esport is most popular (almost always CS)

An other aspect that i ve seen is that you guys have weird tactics and a weird way to aproach cs i dunno, it s just different and in most cases not that good.

    It’s the same principle as to why football (soccer) is bad in NA. They have the population but not the player base; simply put they are rich enough to play more expensive and newer games. Access to a soccer ball and a PC that can run CS (used to at least) be much cheaper than American football equipment and a console. In NA kids play console bc it’s popular and almost everyone can afford it. Go to Poland, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, the Balkans, Ukraine, Mongolia, South America, etc people don’t have consoles or a beast PC that can run newest COD but they probably have a shitbox that can play CS. Of course there are outliers like Scandinavia who have the money but most of the time it’s cus they have a stronger PC culture for some other reason.

    Your argument of top players having to face lower skilled players on ladder cuts both ways. If lower skilled players are paired with higher skilled players, they will improve faster. If all you do is win, you will plateau. If all you do is lose, you will adapt (= get better) or quit.

  • @sh666nks
    @sh666nks Před měsícem

    I've been saying for years that MM players are better than faceit players in NA. You play with a faceit lvl 9-10 and they won't know any smokes, don't know how to mid round. They will have good aim and that's it. Get lost if their B or A rush gets smoked off. And this theory confuses people. What people don't realize is, all the actual real experienced NA players that played ESEA and played Faceit. QUIT YEARS AGO. Already don't care enough to use the 3rd party application anymore. They don't care enough abt the game to play for lvl 9 or 10. And the last 10 people who do care are smoking so hard on COPIUM that at 25 they're finally going to get their break.
    EU the culture is different aswell. No matter if you're a casual player or trying to go pro you're most likely going to play faceit. NA only plays faceit if they want to go pro and most have already realized that going pro is probably not viable. So to us there's no point in playing faceit. Yes the cheaters are bad in CS2 but like who cares. I'll be playing faceit and it feels like I'm encountering cheaters in there aswell. The #1 EU player just got exposed for cheating and has been doing so for years. I also have friends that know a bit abt cheating and they say it's honestly not hard to get faceit cheats. There's just a work around you have to do and it costs a bit more. Cuz there's just absolutely no way some of these guys with no actual game mechanics are running into the site and hard clearing the only angle you're holding. Not jiggling or clearing other angles. Next round you change position. Boom he does the same thing again. What even is the point of trying to take this game seriously in the NA region. I rather just play MM and not get roasted by ELO warriors even though I'm trying to win the game and not worry about my K/D.
    Don't really need to read this part but if you feel my pain::: I even have another rant about NA faceit. So many people take it so seriously and think they know how to play the game better than you. It comes down to a lack of maturity but I shouldn't have to baby sit to play a video game. People are constantly playing afraid in Faceit. If you want me to flash for you THEN RUN OUT. What's the point of the flash bang? For you to sit there and wait? Then run out after you're finally done shitting your pants to get awped instantly. High lvl faceit players don't know basic CS. They're stuck in the mindset that they need to aim better. They rather run mid all game, I'll smoke window. Then they sit top mid wait for the window smoke to fade out. A player throws a flash bang over con and my team gets wiped. Like OK fuck it lets go mid every round, sit top boxes with our dicks in our hand, and just get flashed all round. IF WE'RE THROWING CON AND WINDOW SMOKES LETS GO TO CAT BEFORE THEY FADE. If we hear them rotate towards B then lets hit A. Maybe we have a lurk in Palace or Apartments. Except NOBODY knows how to mid round. Nobody knows how to just play the fucking game. NA is so backwards. If we have a 4v2, 2 people will go out and die to force a 2v2. If we have a 2v4 nobody will take the initiative to kill 2 to balance it out. Why are we such a brain dead region? If you have somebody lurking somebody is flaming him for baiting. NA CS is 5 people going to the same site. While the CTs are taking map control and the team wonders how we're getting flanked cuz we sat A ramp for 1 minute. Lets say your team is A ramp, you start going mid or B just to check timings. They'll just end up following you. So then you go A AND IT'S JUST A GAME OF MONKEY IN THE MIDDLE. This is at HIGH ELO. I'll play MM and people are willing to kinda fuck around and play the game. They know smokes, there's some toxic people sure but usually it's kinda funny and not serious.

    This analysis does not really go into depth, just lists the current differences and not where they come from. Europe dominates almost every E-sport, together with East Asia. The reason the US does not succed is the underlying culture, which is centered around convenience. Working hard on yourself and improving is not convenient, so US Americans dont do it. That is why the US dominates E-sports where you can sit on the couch and be fat. Its the same with sports: the US only dominates niche sports that almost nobody else plays. Americans are wealthy, but the wealth made them too lazy to strive and strive is what you need to reach the top. People from poor countries with a hard working culture understand this better. It is also the reason Eastern Europes is much more dominant in E-sports than EUW.
