Landscaping Ideas for Backyard | How to Build a Bridge

- If you didn't know, landscaping and land developments are moving targets. After diverting water on our property before we put our fence in, we needed a walking bridge that was strong enough for our small tractor to drive over. At certain times in the year, this little ditch becomes a creek, and we needed a way to get across. I want the bridge to be functional, but Tanja insists we incorporate a garden or park feel to each project. I will agree; her way looks better. This will be part of a walking trail around the entire property. This walking bridge has become a unique landscaping feature of our property that is still functional. I give Tanja all the Credit! I know we could not do what we do without using our TYM T474 tractor. It allows us to do work that otherwise we couldn't do anymore.

That Hercules is a beast.
And a beautiful bridge.
Thank you. I am very impressed with the circular saw.
One of your best videos👍
Thank you. Tanja did a great job making it nice.
Team work, that's what it's all about. Well done Tanja and Tony, a nice job. Gizmo supervised the whole project, LoL. Bob and Lina. NZ.
Thank you. Tanja can make anything look better. I am so glad I didn't bull head pushing through. She has so much talent. I am just the structure guy
VERY BEAUTIFUL BRIDGE TONY, TANYA AND OF COURSE BEAUTIFUL GIZMO , GREAT JOB AND A VERY WELL DONE.
Thank you kindly. It has turned out to be a centerpiece.
WOW that bridge is beautiful!
Thank you. I love how it turned out. Tanja is so talented.
The bridge is a nice addition to the front yard. You could have got a half a load of fine gravel - the kind used on driveways (with rock dust) and made yourself a smooth walkway over that 3” rock using the tractor to spread it. This could have been done in under an hour by one person at a cheaper cost without changing the drainage. But that bridge does look better.
Thank you. We are extremely excited about how it turned out.
Great job ya'll that is a beautiful bridge ya'lls homestead is beautiful. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy ya'lls homestead
Thank you. We are trying to build our own little haven to share with friends and family.

Absolutely amazing you did a wonderful job.
Love your channel wishing you happy holidays from VA.
Thank you. Merry Christmas.
You have beautiful equipment, tractors, grapples, impact drivers , chainsaw chaps, ear muffs, eye protection. You have it all. Opps where is the chain sawing safety equipment? For both you and your lovely wife. She does have her own equipment doesn’t she?. I never had any either. Until, that is, on topping out a little Oak tree about 12 ft. Off the ground. I came down off the ladder wearing my brand new Eddie Bauer 60/40 jacket with a brand new big slash across the groin area. I never knew when my saw attacked my jacket. Never felt any pulling of fabric. My boss standing abd watching asked….”WHEN DID YOU CUT YOUR JACKET? “. I answered. What????. I never knew when the saw hit my jacket.
The next time you see an EMT ask him how long do you have to live with that big artery spouting blood. I asked an EMT buddy of mine how long. He said he did not know. “ The idiots not wearing chaps were always dead before they got there”. Yes I have chaps and all the other safety equipment that goes with chain sawing. Only about $120 for the complete outfit. Let your wife read this comment and watch her go pale. The safety kit will be next on your “ must have present from your wife. And if you don’t have the kit, you may have a brand new life insurance policy for about 1 million. Now go back up and read this warning again. Safety kits are very cheap when you compare them to Divorce settlements”. And your lawyer will ask. “So she kicked you out for being STUPID ?
Thank you for the insight
Looks awesome you too did a wonderful job thanks for sharing
Thank you. We had fun with this one.
Looking Great
Thank you
nice bridge
Thank you. I am so pleased with it.
My I just say please the wife is Always right I have come to see that and I’m 57 years old so I know where you are coming from mate all the best to you and your family Joe from England Great Britain.

Great video Tony and Lisa, and I love watching the wonderful way you and Tanja work together. It is always great to see you all working together and seeing how you are changing your property. Great bridge and we love the way it turned out. See you all this weekend! Donald @ #moneypithomestead
See you this weekend.
Guys that bridge looks really great. Nice job take care, Ben.
Thank you. I really like how it turned out.
I agree with Tony, most of the country bridges in Oklahoma where I grew up had those boards on the bridge (for the tires). One lane bridge and you had to be sure you were lined up when crossing.
I grew up with these bridges all over. They were prevalent until the late 1980s on the back country gravel roads.
The bridge is really looking good y'all. Great job!
Thank you. So much.
Awesome video you two. I'm really happy to be a part of the Channel and I hope you all are getting rain and enjoying life. Can't wait to see the green house project. Thanks for the awesome videos and God bless you all and all your adventures
Thank you so much for saying that. We are building a cool community. I am glad to share it with you.
Would love to see you do a review on your Hercules tools how much you like them and all! Really beautiful bridge also! Love y’all’s content
Thank you, Matt. I will definitely do that.
@@TonysTractorAdventure thanks really do enjoy your channel!
Another great looking project, well done!
Thank you. We are trying to make everything we build duel purpose. The bridge ended up with three or four purposes.
That's a great bridge! Awesome build.
Thank you. We are living the dream.
Bridge looks awesome Tony_N_Tonya. I seen it behind you a couple videos back. It's definitely built strong enough.
Thank you. I think it turned out really well. Tanja is very talented.
Awesome Job, it looks fantastic.
Thank you. I am looking forward to the next project.
That looks amazing. Yall did an excellent job on this. Above and beyond.
I appreciate it. We are working on the next project today
@@TonysTractorAdventure can't wait.
you go girl;;;lol;;;tell him how the cow ate the cabbage;;;;lol;;;got someone wondering there;;;;when I built decks for people I always took router and roundover bit and rounded off all edges to keep splintering to a minimum;;two things less pain when bumping against and less moisture retention when rains;;;;like the bridge;;;;
Thank you. Tanja sanded the corners down. We may router the edges soon.
Too Cool! Well Dun!
Thank you. It was a fun project.
Definitely need the path boards on the top... ~30 years ago, I dropped the front end of the tractor through a bridge board when I was first learning to drive a tractor. Fortunately, I wasn't in the middle of the bridge when I drove off the path. *pucker moment* Bridge looks good, should last a long time.
Thank you. I really like how it turned out.
That looks amazing..... The function is what it is there for but Tanja sure gave it an incredible curb appeal. Kuddos to you two on the production and editing as well, as everything was put together really well for this video. Looking forward to the next project. Have a great day, and God Bless. BTW, congrats on breaking 60K
Thank you so much. Tanja is so talented. She has the ability to make ordinary things look great. Honestly, 60k, wow! Honestly it snuck up on me. Thank you again!
You two did a fantastic job on that bridge. That bridge is very stout. You could land a 747 on that bridge it's so strong. Love your videos. I was really impressed with your nail gun. My DeWalt framing gun struggles with oak, often bending the nail.
Hey brother. This was a fun but necessary project. I love how it turned out. We are cutting up more Oak today for the next project.
Noice! - Greetings from Australia :)
Welcome, and Thank You! I love how the bridge turned out. I am putting out the next video in our build series today.
@@TonysTractorAdventure just wanted to clarify to you that the "noice" pronunciation of "nice" that you referred to in the video is indeed an Australian-ism! :) Kinda comes from an Australian comedy show called Kath and Kim:
czcams.com/video/W02B06PJ0k4/video.html
Nice job and it really looks great and in just the rite spot as well
We are calling this side of the property Tanlandia! 😁
@@TonysTractorAdventure well put so fitting for all her hard work ya got a great wife
Thank you, Sir. I truly enjoy making her happy.
@@TonysTractorAdventure lol I know that you are military but my name is Gary lol not sir don’t take it the wrong way I just feel like I out rank ya and I don’t I couldn’t serve I should be thinking you for all ya done
No worries here. I mean it with respect. Gary it is.
You can if you dip the nail in oil first! 👍
I don't want them to come out. I hope to keep this thing together for a long time.
@@TonysTractorAdventure you can bet they want come out, built a barn out of cured oak years ago and had to oil the nails and it’s still standing for about 30 years now
Sweet
Thank you
Hey guys ,great job.Thatll more than hold even the 474 and all small equipment.Back when I worked with the county we always used runners like you did.Was really impressed with the circular saw and how well it cut that red oak.was it a Hercules,I know you use there equipment some.anyway great Job and the video work was perfect.nice drone shots .much love from . Chester.co.
I think it will handle a good bit of weight. Thank you for your insight. I am impressed with the saw too.
Great job. My only different thing would have been to put grass seed on the ramps instead of mulch. Did you remember to sand or smooth with a router those raw edges on the inside of the seating areas?
Thank you. Tanja sanded all the edges. I think we are going to keep a mulch road to the greenhouse house area for now. Time will tell.
Bridge really looks great ... Was that a Bosch Rotary Laser your using to set post height ? I just bought one its amazing what can be done in 5 Minutes 😀
Yes it is. We used the laser to get a reference height on all of the posts. It makes it so easy. Thank you about the bridge too.
Thanks for the video Chief. The interaction of the “work crew” is priceless. I envy you. Nice job as always. Are you up for adoption? You could be the son I never had!
Half of the work crew is very talented! 😁 I will talk with mom. She may sell me for a price.😁
@@TonysTractorAdventure Careful Chief, you did not say which half!
😁
HOW DEEP DO YOU PUT THE POST IN AND HOW MANY BACKS OF FAST 2K DOES IT TAKE TO FILL?
I put the post 4' in the ground. Each post has a different bag count.
How do you like the Herculise tools?
I have been running them for a year now through tough work. They hold up.
Are you sure the bridge is wide enough for all the tractor implements??? If it is so okay but are the benches going to get hit if the tractor is not in the absolute center of the bridge??? I think you should have (been another 2 to 4 feet wider) used all the length of the red oak boards!!!! Tanya says, "Lunch/ coffee break on the bridge!!!"
It is just for the small tractor. I think it is perfect for our needs. If not, I will drive over the rocks.
What size auger is that?
I think that was a 12"
how many bags of fast2k were needed for each post. same for the post you used for the fence?
I used two bags per post. I like to fill the post hole to the very top. Fast2K adheres to the wood making it waterproof. I can expect this to last the rest of my life. If I had of used concrete, the post would rot off in just a few years. Post treatment is not what it use to be just 4 years ago.
@@TonysTractorAdventure Thank you, That amount to about $20.00 per post?
More like $25 per post, but the posts are $30 each
One should wear gloves when handling treated lumber.-Project looks good.
Why does one need gloves for treated lumber?
That is a really nice bridge I Love it keep up the good work
Oh yes I stumbled across another CZcams channel I think you might be interested in. Ingles coach shop a specialty trade in building coaches wagons horse-drawn buggies even stagecoaches. Engels coach shop is located in Joliet Montana. The biggest project he has done so far is the borax wagons presently on display in the state of Arizona. Please check him out I think you'll love the work he does I know I do
That sounds awesome. I love craftsman.
Allow me to offer my deepest apology my geography was a little off I said Arizona incorrect it's Utah where the borax wagons are I needed to get that clarified I was failing a little guilty about my lack of remembering meanwhile back at the ranch
I am pretty sure OUPES is pronounced U.P.S. - Like Uninterruptable Power Supply.
Maybe. It is an odd name but it works good. I think it will be very useful on the farm.
Too bad its not white oak, red oak has too big of pores, tends to rot much faster
We are sealing the Red Oak. It will be here long after I am gone.
oh did ya keep the tractor 2x about half to and inch back from end and 45 the tractor 2x at ends;;;that that girl won't spill coffee all over herself when taking a sip as she goes over the bridger;;;;as she says she be leavin the wheelbarrowin to you;;;;lol ;;; good one;;keep em coimin;;'
We made it so we can drive the small tractor to the greenhouse on the future road and not mar up the yard. We are really trying to think ahead and make this all functional. I do the functional thinking and Tanya makes it all look awesome.
gotcha;;;; was taling about the runners for tractor to go over;;;doin a 45 miter cut each end to limit the bump when you hit the runner with tires;;;;;if the big ratctor wasn't to wide think ya could run it over with no trouble either;;; thinke it be strudy enouth to drive 18 wheeler over;;;;lol;;;;enjoy@@TonysTractorAdventure
I understand now. I cut 45 degree slants on the ends. She is happy with it now.
Incidentally……your wifey was right, the bridge looks half finished with the deck ends not trimmed even. When your guests ask why the boards never got trimmed tell them your battery died on the saw and the wife said it looked great that way. When that happens, let me know what your room number is at the hospital. I’ll send flowers.
Joe B
We ended up trimming the bridge ends in this video. She gets her way.😁
If it was l my build I would take the win windows
Not sure what you are trying to say
I would take the windows and the roof And I would double or triple pain the roof and windows then I would go to the ridge and frame In three vents on each side of the ridge space equall it
Nothing like a woman’s touch to make something bland into something pretty.
You are so right. My bridge would have just been useful, but she made it a centerpiece. Thank you for your comment also.
I wanted to see a bridge built not a sales pitch on solar powered gens
Thank you for your input. Your point of view will be given the appropriate amount of consideration.
Overnailing doesn’t give you anymore security.
It does for me.
