  • Here's a talented lady that isn't very well-known and didn't reach superstardom in her day, but she was very well known around the black nightclub scenes in the 30's and 40's. Her name is Josephine Pearson Edwards. She was a woman who had the beauty and talent to become as big as Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge, but because of the time, there was a limit to how many black stars there could be. She was a singer and dancer, who danced in Chicago and in California, but she was the most popular at the legendary Creole Palace in San Diego, where she was a popular feature for years with her husband Frog Edwards, who she had a dance team with. She also was apart of The Whitman Sisters troupe. She was somewhat of a movie star within the black community. She appeared in a few all black cast race films in the late 30's and early 40's. Here she is singing a beautiful song You Can't Fool Yourself About Love, from the movie Mystery In Swing, where she gave a great performance, and The Four Toppers are singing behind her. They were also known as Steve Gibson and The Red Caps, and Cee Pee Johnson Band is playing for her.
