  • This is part 3 of a 9 part video series on how to rebuild a Toyota 4X4 solid front axle. In this video we show how to install the differential. It applies to 1979 to 1985 Toyota 4X4 Pickups and 1984 and 1985 Toyota 4Runners. These instructions can also loosely apply to the Toyota Land Cruiser and Suzuki Samurai. Yeah I fitted a diff lock to the rear of my 40 series and never used a gasket. I recommend this approach as it eliminates leaks because the nuts stay tight. It also makes disassembly easier as cleaning the gasket off is a waste of time.
I would never do this to a customers car however. The reason is I can't be bothered arguing with them.
Read into that what you will. I'm a professional.
