The super smash bros series has always been about the characters on the roster, and that’s especially true for super smash bros ultimate, however an often overlooked part of the game is the also massive selection of stages. There are over 115 stages in smash ultimate after the DLC coming from its several different franchises, but the franchise with by far the most stages is the Super Mario Series. There are 18 different stages: Peach’s Castle, Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach’s Castle, Rainbow Cruise, Mushroom Kingdom II, Delfino Plaza, Mushroomy Kingdom, Figure-8 Circuit, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Bros, 3D Land, Golden Plains, Paper Mario, Mushroom Kingdom U, Mario Galaxy, Mario Circuit, Super Mario Maker, and New Donk City Hall. Today in this episode of level by level I’m going to be analyzing and ranking all of the mario stages in smash ultimate on a tier list! So join me as we find out what the BEST mario stage is in super smash bros ultimate.

For real! They got all these Bowser themes but all these beautiful colorful levels is annoying to me.

The fact that Nintendo axed 3DS Rainbow Road of all stages but brought back stages like Mushroomy Kingdom instead is one of the most baffling exclusions I've ever seen in a Smash game
That and choosing Pac-Land over Pac-Maze
At least they didn't bring over Icicle Mountain or Rumble Falls
Only because they rather bring back stages from Wii U than 3DS because it would be either to copy than rework them, or something like that. :(
Probably cause at the time of Ultimate’s release 3DS Rainbow Road wasn’t remade in 8DX so had they brought the stage over to Ultimate without a remake the stage would’ve looked ugly with all the pink hues as well as how the road looked in 7 compared to 8DX

The most annoying thing about mushroom kingdom 2 isn’t the stage, but that there were way more cherries in the background of this single stage than the majority of the final stages of SMB2. Seriously, I got a star from them twice throughout the entire game.
And the name of the stage. Why not call it Subcon since it isn't the Mushroom Kingdom.

@@Odyssey_Central For Mario Circuit Brawl, it actually is based on Mario Kart DS, the map u see in the background is based on the bottom screen in the DS when playing Mario Kart DS.

In Mushroom Kingdom the reason the piranah plants are red is because Super Mario Bros: the Lost Levels introduced them.

The triangles in Peach's Castle seem to be based off of the triangle platforms in the Bowser in the Fire Sea stage of Super Mario 64.

Melee Princess Peach's Castle.
It's Perfect With All Players and there can be separate battles on each side and when a bullet bill comes in. The Battle Becomes 1 Sided For A While Bringing Them Back Together.
Though, the stage has one problem. That being how the stage does not look like a Mario stage. I mean look at the background and atmosphere, it feels nothing like Mario. I wish they would have made the background look actually Mario themed with Mushrooms, and green lined hills in the background.
@@dark-gaming--8232 But isn't that background the exact same as the others. Golden Plains, NSMBU, Super Mario Maker. All these stages have that bubbly background and that's what makes it different. It's a nice change from Giant Mushrooms and Wacky Hills.

@@dark-gaming--8232 That was just a problem with Melee's stages in general. They all looked a bit too generic or unfaithful, and that was kept as they were remade for Ultimate.
The first and only time Mario Bros will receive a positive review. One of my favorite casual stages personally though

Something really weird about Mario Maker is that things like pipes are treated differently sometimes for Steve. Sometimes you get dirt and other times it's iron

I would personally love more Smash stages analysis. Smash 4 stages (specifically Wii U's) are awful to play on. Sure, they look amazing and have a lot of stuff, but that ends up being annoying.
For an example of what I mean, we have Nabbit. That guy ruins the stage for me, I dont want to play it anymore lol

the obstacles in peach's castle actually do come from mario 64 (except for the bumber). 🤔
I'm pretty sure both the triangles and the platform in the bottom appear in the first bowser level and the bridge in the middle is from cool cool mountain.

Really though, KOF Stadium is by far my favorite non-legal stage in the game, and if every walk-off worked like the walls from this stage, so many more stages would be fun. I seriously don’t like a single stage with permanent walk offs and wouldn’t put any of them higher than a low C tier personally. Great video by the way, I really like this series.
Didn’t brawl already have programmed Goombas and koopas from subspace? So it makes even less sense why they weren’t in mushroomy kingdom

Honestly, I like the aesthetic of Mushroomy Kingdom. To me, it seemed to be a reference to Super Mario Bros' darker story, with Bowser turning all of the Toads into blocks and such and leaving the Mushroom Kingdom as a wasteland. That's probably not the actual intention of the stage, but that's what I always thought of as a kid. Still not a fun stage to play on, though.

I don't think it's fair to judge Mushroomy Kingdom in Ultimate based on its brawl variant. That'd be like saying Meta Knight is the best character because he was busted in Brawl. Judge it on how it is here.
Think of the walk offs as the refreshing stages in Mario maker 2

I mean, competitive players are probably going to care way more about core fighting mechanics than the single-player stuff, the roster, and general amount of content

Mario circ- sorry figure 8 circuit is my favourite Mario stage, I’m biassed towards Mario kart lol
But figure 8 circuit was the first Mario kart track I’ve ever played and I still love it. Also rainbow road from Mario kart 7 can be played here too so that’s a bonus.
Also this is random but my favourite stage of all time is tomodachi life, best Nintendo game. Me and my brother always look on what our miis are doing before we fight. I like it hazards on or off, kinda prefer them off so I can see the miis easier and also I love the background in the tomodachi life stage showing the amusement park, mii news and the cafe 💛

i clicked on this video with the expectation that you'd place mario bros insanely low like everyone else and that saddened me because i love stages that are "dumb-fun" like mario bros. and then i saw you place it in A tier and my mind was blown
that said, good video, i agree with a lot of the higher ranking ones, though i end up liking stages that are both fun to fight on and fun to fight on in a stupid way so i generally like all of these stages, though i think your ranking of them makes sense
The blasphemy of Mushroomy kingdom is unforgivable, aesthetically it's beautiful, enemies were already in brawl and would just be annoying, i do miss 1-2 but that's the only gripe i have

Pretty sure those triangles on Peach's Castle 64 are based on platforms from Mario 64 that tilt when you stand on them.

Guidelines: Has to be a boss throughout the entire fight. (The bosses from Run 'n Guns don't count.)

Rainbow Cruise is actually called Rainbow Ride in the PAL version, so at least they got it right elsewhere! Rainbow Road however, doesn’t even get a mention as an exclusion, and sorry to all Poké Floats fans, but this was the wildest absentee. Anyway Delfina Plaza is my favourite stage in the game and an easy SS Tier but a good video nevertheless, shoutouts to Mario Bros getting some defence for once

Peach's castle is entirely based on mario 64, the tower you fight on is like the top of whomps fortress plus the plants, sign, and other elements look like they were ripped straight from that game

Autoscrolling levels could be made much less annoying by slowing down their speed, but I wonder if there could be some core gameplay or systems change that could be made to prevent or at least mitigate walk-off cheese, because I do think walk-offs are great in concept to make casual stages more distinct from each other (and for newer players who may not be great at recovering), but I can’t say that I completely disagree with the assertion that Smash’s combat system really does make these way too easy to abuse, and I wouldn’t exactly blame anyone for not liking walk-offs as a whole because of that
Hey Odyssey Central can I tell you a little fact about super Mario Maker 2 if you're playing on handheld mode and you're on maker mode if you touch Mario or whoever you're playing as you can actually move them around by moving your finger across the screen I found this when I was making a level and I was bored cuz I couldn't find any ideas and I was touching Mario when I heard a little noise in Mario moved to the ground a little so I started moving him around and he was moving around just wanted to tell you that

i love autoscroll stages. they're gimmick stages dude. they're not meant to be perfectly balanced or good for competitive, that's why you have the choice not to play on them, or just to play without stage hazards. i also really like walkoffs too, i just find them super fun
Mushroomy Kingdom doesn't even make any sense as 1-1 would never be abandoned, too many SMM2 players recreate the stage

figure 8 circuit is for sure based off mkds. Outside the name, the screen in the background is the bottom screen from ds and the shy guys are driving the default kart from ds.
16:14 This part of stage was cut for a good reason. Too close to the blast zone above so it is too easy to get points (I used to play casual with items). At least the 1-1 segment was funny at casual matches

"Mushroomy King-UGHHHHHHHH! Ok brawl sucks, back to back we get two stages that I don't like and somehow this one is even worse. First off the name: Mushroomy Kingdom? Really? They couldn't have called it 1-1? Oh I Guess there is a reason they didn't but we'll get to that. Secondly; God this stage looks so ugly I get the idea is supposed to be that this level has been abandoned after so many years, but come on this looks gross. I love how Mushroom Kingdom looks which makes this stage so much sadder. Oh we haven't even looked at the stage itself; Well it's a Complete Recreation of 1-1 from the original Super Mario bros. Sure it's one of the most popular video game levels of all time, But have you ever considered that it would suck to fight on? First off, the stage is a walk off, we already know how much I love those, but it's ALSO an auto scroll on top of that. Not to mention, there are so many bricks and pipes blocking the way that getting a kill is super annoying unless the computer kills itself while you're messing around with wall jumps. All of this would easily put this in D tier; It's only barely saved from F tier due it being ripped straight from the game. However: We're not done. Do you remember how the stage is called Mushroomy kingdom instead of 1-1? Well there's a reason for that. In brawl, it also let you play through 1-2 which is kind of nice. But for who knows why this was cut from Ultimate. An entire half of the stage: Gone. Oh and you know what I said about this being A direct rip from 1-1? Well that's not even true because there are no enemies here making this even more boring. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole Abandoned gimmick for this stage was chosen Just so they wouldn't have to program Goombas and Koopas. Well that settles it, we've finally seen our first F tier of this series. Not only is this Terrible to play on, but it only barely does a decent job of replicating what it's meant to. And if we consider this stage as a combo of 1-1 and 1-2, It only does half the job. Maybe the brawl version would earn a D tier, But we're talking about ultimate today and I will gladly put this at the bottom of the Level by Level tier list in F tier."

That’s a good question, not entirely sure if I’m going to make videos like this for every series but I’ll find ways to combine the smaller series. I’ll likely make an “all dlc stages” video which would cover a large majority of those
