    Speaker going lower in volume them coming back. Recently had that happen on one of my systems. Realized it was because there was some dirt build up on the input knob of the selector switch (you know, where you choose phono, Aux, tape1, tape 2, etc). I sprayed some deoxit behind the knob, turned it back and forth 8 or 9 times...boom...problem solved.

    Just an icelander saying hello. Love your videos! I work at a history museum so I can confirm that the Mo Fi sleeves are pretty much the best there are. They are made of Polyethylene which is an acid free material. It doesn`t only keep dust away, it also significantly slows down the natural deterioration of the record and makes it last much longer.

    I had a similar skipping issue with the Outlaws album “Playin’ To Win”. Every copy I ever had on vinyl skipped all the way through “Take It Anyway You Want It”, the opening track. Turns out, it was a pressing defect in which the metal part for Side 1 was damaged for that song.

    Once I had gotten back into vinyl, stand up and comedy was something I got into in a big way. Eddie murphy’s raw/delirious was why. He mentions Richard prior albums getting him in to comedy, and then I spotted The Goodies and Nothe the Nine o’clock News albums in local thrift stores. The latter there being Monty python precursor and later British comedy inspired by. It’s a different experience of comedy but a wonderful slice of a different period of comedy.

    Love this!! I've been wanting to get a record player for years as I've been given lots of vinyl from the industry I work in and some fantastic finds at markets. Just ordered my first setup which will be a Sony PS-LX310BT, Edifier 1700BT speakers, Microsoft Surface Pro, and a Fiio type c DAC. I think this is a good entry-level setup, but I'm sad I won't be able to upgrade my stylus properly. One day I'd like to get a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, KEF LS50, probably keep a tablet in the mix or a Cambridge Streamer.

    So glad I found your channel! I’m guilty, I unfortunately bought my first suitcase Victrola record player… moments after researching I knew I was going to ruin my brand new Pornography LP by The Cure on vinyl. I immediately took that Victrola suitcase vinyl player back for a refund! I got my money back and purchased the Fluance RT85n with a Pre-amp that Fluance sells as well. I was freaking out over my set up so far since I didn’t want to drop some more money on a receiver then I found out I actually had Active two way speakers that have been in the box collecting dust in the corner of my room. These Active speakers are the Pioneer DJ DM-40 Watt. I’m so excited for my RT85n and to set it up! I even got a cleaning kit for my future records and some storage bins I bought as well! The only thing it looks like I need are those Mofi Inner sleeves to protect my records completely when stored away until my next time using them

    Hi, great video as usual. I've not finished watching it yet, but, I wanted to comment on your saying be patient and wait for the repressing of an album if the original pressing is too expensive. I have a coveted John Mayall with Eric Clapton album, both in its 1966 first pressing and in a modern pressing. The modern pressing is only worth £27 but the original is worth over £200. The sound of the 1966 version (even with the crackles) is so much better than the repress. It's how Mayall heard it at the time. I Also have Beatles albums that I bought in the '60's (I'm that old) and I prefer the original mix that they have to any modern repressing. It doesn't matter if the original recording was made in the last 20-30 years when everything has become digital and compressed....but if you are collecting 1960's-80's artists and records that were recorded before digital recording then go for the original recording rather than the repress. That's why I buy stuff at record fairs. To get the original. x

    Great video! The only thing you're off about in my opinion and experience is the sound quality of cassettes. Recording onto a Nakamichi Dragon lets say, which has a frequency response of 20-22k (better than virtually any CD player) or similar high-end deck from a very good analog source would most likely run circles around most if not all moderately priced turntable set-ups including your Fluance/Ortofon combo and my own set-up as well (No offense) The recording on a properly calibrated Nak are very difficult to distinguish from whatever source one records from. This means if you record from something like a technics SL-1000R and appropriate cartridge im confident that the Tape recording made on a Dragon will outperform any record played directly on any lesser turntable. i would actually recommend people buy a quality cassette deck, so they record their rare or frequently used vinyl on it. This will help prevent wear or damage to their records.

We picked up about 20,000 of them back In the early 90's when they did start to loose favor. We are soooooooooo glad we hung on to them. As for coloured vinyl against Black, Well over time the Coloured vinyl starts to go Hard, and cracks easily, I am talking mostly about Singles though. Great Video keep em' comin'

I’m planning to get a vinyl player as a gift and I’ve been seeing your recommendations (almost but one of those suitcases 😅), however it can get pricey to buy one and also buy the amplifiers… Are there any recommended ones that come with Bluetooth? Since the person getting the gift has a very good Speaker. And I’d love to give them the player and some vinyls.

    I don’t know but I think the band Opeth is a good band when beginning to listen to death/black metal, especially considering you are a great fan of tools! With that being said, could I recommend song of the day -- Ghost of Perdition, by Opeth? Love your channel👍🤜

    Question: I have heard so much back and forth on whether alcohol in cleaning fluid damages records (that aren't 78s, looks like it's a resounding "yes" on those). I recently picked up the Phoenix cleaning spray from Sleeve City, and it has a small amount of alcohol, 4% believe. Would that damage my vinyl? I trust their other products, as I've been using their inner and outer sleeves for a while with no issues, but I'm not sure on this one.

    Do you think a AT LP120x with a BLUE Octafon would work?? I have a nice Pioneer receiver and 5.1 passive speakers. Or should I upgrade to a Fluance? I kinda don't want to get a Fluance RT85 and have to get a pre-amp.

    • @RetroRoCkEt6
      @RetroRoCkEt6 Před rokem

      You’ll get the most out of a cartridge like that with a better turntable. I’d recommend upgrading to a Fluance model that includes the 2m Blue. I actually did that same upgrade myself and don’t regret it at all!

    • @paolocavalli7
      @paolocavalli7 Před rokem

      @@RetroRoCkEt6 Yeah, since this comment I've done a lot more research, turns out my pioneer a/v receiver has a built-in pre-amp so that's sweet.
      I went for the RT85 with 2M Blue, looking to purchase the Nagaoka 110 as well, it's about $170 USD with the carcass included which is a pretty sweet deal.
      Thanks for the response!

    If I want to record my records to my computer, should I send the output of my record player into the normal set of equipment and have the computer or audio interface at the end of the chain where my speakers would be or can I just run it with my turntable directly plugged into the interface with the internal preamp turned on?

    Which cartridge should I buy moving coil ceramic or moving magnet because I am building my record player from the beginning to finish

    • @acerbt
      @acerbt Před rokem

      Ceramic cartridges tend to track harder and don't have the amount of frequency response as a magnetic. I'd go for a magnetic cartridge because it's required tracking force is less, leading to longer lasting records, and the better quality that it will provide.

    Yeah, I used to old liquid and brush to clean my records. I used to know many ppl. that worked at OM in SF. How come most newer record collectors don’t cover dance 12”s. Back in the days, that was top choice in the dj community bc of the louder pressing and the extend songs, I just got 17- 12”s and about 14 didn’t come with the inner sleeves and my first order from discogs and all the records were VG+ but most had marks and more like VG. So this was out of 50 records I ordered in the last week, only this batch and one other record I ordered didn’t come with inner sleeves.
    Oh and why do ppl. when shipping records take out the record from the cover? Is it to protect the cover in shipping and causing ring wear?

    To get the best sound, can you use a Stereo Shibata Cartridge on old Quadraphonic Vinyl or does it have to be a Quadraphonic Shibata one? I'm not sure if it's similar to playing Mono LP's with a Stereo Needle or using a specific Mono Cartridge.

    • @natas3.14

      I absolutely agree, or when leaving the dust cover off, as it does look cooler, you may hear if/when the stylus comes into contact with that single loose hair that has been hitching on your shoulder since lunch, finally decides to jump ship, & lands between track 3, & 4. I will stop the platter, give the record a quick wipe, just in case, & clean the stylus. Nothing worse than getting into the music, only for it to suddenly sound...off, usually during the best song. Now I just leave the dust cover on though as the new housemate, Elvis who happens to be an audiophile, & a cat favours the audio room.

    Why aren't side B of my vinyl not working?Hello recently purchased several new vinyl recordings and a turntable. On my side two of the vinyl records are not playing well; they are slowing down, becoming muffled, and occasionally the stylus gets stuck in the same spot. This problem is causing me a lot of worries. I initially assumed it was the turntable, but it turns out that it isn't because one of my vinyl records is operating flawlessly from all sides while the other two records aren't working from side 2/B while side A is good. I made an effort to figure out what was going on, and I discovered that side B on both vinyl albums is causing the vinyl to rise and fall while spinning, which slows them down and contributes to the muffled voice (I m not sure if it is a main problem).

      @isaac_smith Před rokem

      You’re records might be warped. Make sure to keep them in a cool dry place. They might also be dirty. You should give them a good clean and see if they work then. It might also be your turntable. Make sure your stylus is clean and in good condition. Also make sure your turntable is level.
      Hope this helps! (:
