Inspired by our friends @SixtyFormula, this week we're taking a look at Male vs Female Alaskan Klee Kai. It's probably one of the most common questions we get on Instagram from dog lovers thinking about getting a Klee Kai: 'should we get a male or female?'. Alternatively, some Klee Kai owners have asked us whether they should get the same sex as their first dog or a different sex. Our breeder really helped us when it came to pairing Copper with Skye. In this videos, I'm going to run through the male and female Klee Kai traits based upon my experience with Copper and Skye. However, this is exclusively based upon my Klee Kai, so other Klee Kai owners feel free to agree, disagree or contribute in the comments below! The more the merrier.

With my Siberian Huskies, similar traits. Females: Dominant, Independent, willful, stubborn. Males: Needy, affectionate, attached. I did experience separation anxiety with my male, big time! He was such a BABY! Both absolutely delightful though! 💕 My next dog will probably be an Alaskan Klee Kai!

Skye's personality reminds me so much of my girl. She, too, was highly independent, calm and elegant. Incidentally, she was also part Spitz so it's interesting you mentioned this particular trait in your video!

Is it possible to record the separation anxiety of Copper when you and your wife leaves? Curious to exactly how Copper behaves which will give viewers more context. I do appreciate the videos, it has been very helpful when researching getting AKK.
Another great video! I noticed you didn’t offer any thoughts on what sex to pick when adopting a second Klee Kai. You obviously have a great little team with your two pups of opposite sexes. I am aware that most people suggest getting a male and a female with Siberian Husky’s & Pomskies (or the Arctic Spitz) as a general rule. I would really love your thoughts because I am currently on a waiting list for my second dog, and Alaskan Klee Kia. I already have a Male pomsky. And from what I can see of the two breeds they share very similar dispositions. Must be an ancient Spitz breed thing. 🤷🏻♂️. If by some miracle you read this I’d really appreciate it you would share any insight you may have on the matter. Regardless...thanks so much for sharing your dogs, knowledge and experience with us all! I’m going to be sitting on only the edge of my seat until the breeder announces their newest litter! Which could be awhile because they’re a small scale operating, but extremely extremely responsible. I lucked out. So I’m going to be binge watching your videos until then. My dog's fur was like Skye's - takes forever to dry. Someone suggested I use a shammy cloth and that helped alot. After using the shammy, using the dryer took only a few minutes.
Our AKK (Juneau and Spirit) have almost the same personalities and issues, it’s amazing. Did you do anything specific to help Copper with anxiety?

Maybe you could ask your breeder if they find any trends among males and females and make a video about that? It’s difficult to extrapolate any trends from such a small sample, so they might have a better idea.

Have you had them try to escape? I had huskies who were magicians ALL the time be getting phone calls from neighbours so I’m worried about the same thing happen if I get a Klee Kai. Especially when I’m at work?

Like I mentioned before, Klee Kais are naturally born leaders, especially the female. My Lumie really tells other dogs what to do and not to do (policing) and forms gangs in my daughters job at Dog and Bone in NY. She is extremely independent, willful, dominant, quiet and all the above, but is extremely loving and well behaved will little to no training. Lumie is amazing like her breed.

our breeder was a big help... we had read female-female was a bad idea, we read male-female was a bad idea... in the end our breeder matched Copper to Skye's personality
