This trip I SO wanted to be part of. So glad you are generously sharing these architectural glories with us. Thank you Kevin and Andrew.
Our pleasure!
Another great video! It’s so much fun to listen to your observations and see you guys geek out.
Fantastic tour. Great combination of everyday civilian reaction with informed architectural understanding. I want to go!
Obsessed with the transition from outdoor to indoor is here!! It really feels incredible in person!
Brilliant! Love the building!
Brilliant guys ... do more like this
Impressive Trip guy's
Brilliant walkthrough boys 🙌
Cheers
Superb and hysterically funny, as always: bravi!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watching theCaixaForum tour had me laughing, learning, and longing to be the third musketeer in this architectural trio!#Thirdwheelwannabe #architectsinaction #canibethequirkysidekicktobatmanandrobinletmeknow, youwontregretit, peaceout
Caixa Forum has always been one of my favourite buldings. I hate using the term favourite, but I have always had such a deep fascination with it. Thanks Kevin & Andrew for bringing such an incredibly informative video to a superb piece of architecture!!
It is a shame we cannot have good architecture in most of rural UK where the aesthetic appearance of buildings is dictated by those without any architectural training. The other reason is that those without any relevant qualifications are permitted to design buildings, so they do! 80% of buildings submitted to local authorities for planning approval do not have an architect as a member of the design team!
I love this--thanks!
Glad you like it!
Great showcase of the building, I got a chance to visit earlier this year and the public space it creates is truly something special! I also like how the building does not reveal its true from from afar, What appears to be a solid box becomes textured and porous from up close and within; then of course at night when the perforated parts glow from the inside.
You missed one of my favorite tiny details though: there is a pixelated Spain and Portugal hidden in the perforated pattern on the cladding panels! It blends in unless you know what to look for, but there is one visible near the corner of the triangle when you show the water feature at 23:22 (It's the closest large opening to the corner, Andrew is roughly pointing at it)
Oh we didn’t have this conversation when we met in person. Thanks for sharing your experience in the comments.
I used to cut under that building all the time when I lived in Madrid. It felt a bit oppressive and supernatural having all that MASS floating above my head. I did appreciate the commitment to public space, as I did when I lived in Berlin and Hamburg. New York, not so much....
Great video! Herzog & de Meuron have made the renovation of the former Kunsthaus Tacheles squat here in Berlin (the new Fotografiska Museum opening this month) now I can't wait 🙂
Wow. Another project to look forward to.
Fascinating. And enjoyable patter. Thanks so much. I was in Madrid in 2016 - it has changed! I'll have to get back and catch up.
It has changed but not that radically
I have been to the Caixa Forum many times and will be visiting it again at the beginning of November. I now have a much better appreciation of that phenomenal building. Thanks for the great commentary. ¡Muchísimas gracias!
De nada. Thanks for commenting
I just went there 2 weeks ago.
Thoughts on your visit?
I have been discussing the drawings of this building with one of my students. I think the hall with an entresol is a smaller one and is still below the main volume of the building. There is a sloped floor in the section, and it is the bigger hall. My theory is that the entrance to it has the sign "No humans" ;) I wonder how can you get in there? ;)
Love this building. Thank you for the video)))).
It was a great trip!
THIS IS BEST BEST................................
EVER!
But the height?! Out of character for the neighbourhood. So not happening in Melbourne, or Sydney, or Canberra ... 😢
NIMBY?
