The devs used 110% brain capacity for the splashdown and kraken changes
too bad they used all their brain there and didn’t save any for undertow 😔
they buffed pro?? they BUFFED H-3????? THEY NERFED SNIPEWRITER?????????? NO MORE KRAKEN CHEESE???????????????????
I was a fan of kraken cheese but Swiss is a good second
no way nintendo used a part of their brain
not to the fullest but they used it!!!
I don't see a lot of people talking about this, but the Brella fixes (especially to Bambrella) are great.
Bambrella's stun is gone, it got a indirect buff because of the bubbler buff, shield destroy times were fixed on all brellas, and some brella launch issues were ironed out too.
Now if they can fix being shot through a visably open shield because it'd just been opened, that'd be lovely; cus that still happens to me a ton with sorella brella and undercover
Brella love, we love to see it
I'm definetly trying out bambrella again after the patch
@@sashasscribbles Being shot through an open shield isn't a bug, sadly. Splatoon 3, like most shooters, is attacker-side authoratitive at all times. This means that if the shot lands on the attacker's screen, no matter how far off the mark the shot is on your screen, it'll count as a hit. It's the same reason E-Litres can hit you even if you duck behind cover, your position desynced on their end and you didn't make it to cover on their client. In the case of Brellas, it's a matter of the fact that the canopy simply didn't open yet on their side of the game. It's not something that can be fixed, really. It's just fundamentally how the game is engineered.
Also the new Screen buff, buffs Sorela Undercover, because now can combo with Torpedo

It's not a bad patch, but I'd like to mention: it's been 6 months since they've made any balance changes to sub weapons (where they changed curling bomb to take 65% ink instead of 70%)
Honestly I'm kinda worried that they might just be done trying to buff bad sub weapons
Can’t wait to see a pole on undertow
That meme splatfest of "which is your favorite middle of the level pole?" is slowly becoming reality.
Well it's thankfully not a pole!
Its acsualy amazing now
it’s not a pole
it’s a H O L E
The fact the Splattershot Nova needs that buff honestly says so much about how that weapon is designed. Its entire gimmick was that its shot deviation does not increase as you hold the trigger, but the base shot deviation is so awful that it doesn't even need to scale in the first place. I'm honestly just so sad for that weapon. It could've really taken up the Dual Squelcher's mantle but it's really never found its place because of just how clunky it is.
According to the wiki, the deviation actually does increase over time lol. Starts at 10% for the first shot and increases by 3% per shot until 25%. Since that takes 5 shots, or the same (minimum) amount you need to get a kill, you always end up with a very high chance of missing. I hope they buff this thing's damage by literally 1 so it can be a 4 shot
@@abra_escaped Wait did they just straight up lie??? The whole thing's selling point was that it doesn't get worse spread!
lmao i like to use (vanilla) nova a lot for some strange reason, it's rng is so bad i didn't even knew about that gimmick and now that i know i absolutely don't care.

We did it bestie!!!! :3
I don't know how they can't see how beneficial Screen's 10 damage buff was: Undercover Brella got a combo with Screen and Torpedo
the sub defense in the room:
To address the biggest non-buffs of the patch, Painbrush and Nova (Dapples just needs a kit please Nintendo Clear Dapples with splat bomb and trizooka), I've had two buff ideas for them for a while.
For Painbrush, to tie into the rolling buffs they've been giving it, I think letting it attack immediately with next to no windup if you attack out of a roll would be a great buff, as it makes it less about sharking while giving the roll some utility, and allows it to fight better if it takes advantage of corners and cover while rolling.
Nova is a bit more complex, with its new accuracy buff I think the grounded mode is fine, though I might want it a tiiiny bit closer to Splattershot Pro accuracy. However, to tie into the space gun theming, and to give it a more unique gimmick that shooters haven't seen before, I think giving it a jump-based ability would be fun, my current favorite idea being to make it have perfect accuracy like Splash or Squeezer after jumping, sort of like an S-blast style gimmick in reverse. Maybe give it slightly better jump mobility than other weapons, too?
Dapple should get Burst Bomb >:)
After going in expecting nothing, I was pleasantly surprised!
Unrelated, but I have great memories on that song. Actually I don't cause I lost count of how many times I lost to Paul but you know what I mean.
Every single change made to weapons is something I've wanted at one point or another and its beautiful. My highlights are splattershot special points being lowered, the fixes for brella, and splattershot pro being buffed
Your visualization of changes is so damn helpful for a semi casual like myself lol, great stuff as always.
Let's hope they'll do more than just add a pole to Undertow, and then call it a "rework"
TWO poles! :)
it actually looks like its in the spot where the uninkable balloon is so a pole wouldnt change it much. Im hoping its an inkable climbable platform to bridge the sniper spots but thats probably being too positive
Start of patches getting into a better direction? Only 2 updates remains.
Balance patches will probably continue for a few years after the content updates end, the last Splatoon 2 balance patch was on September 29, 2021
Still though, you are right that it's too late for patches to still be "a good start" instead of flat out good
They should just make it so you can’t super jump to a kraken
This fix is better than that wdym
Nah, I say this is better than outright removing strategies.
That’s a terrible idea. Especially since two backlines have Kraken, and those are the people you typically jump to after respawning. It might fix kraken cheese but it will ruin teams trying to use kraken to get kills/take space while regrouping from other people dying. Plus the way they fixed kraken cheese in the patch is already good enough.
THEY MADE SPLATTERSHOT PRO SOMEWHAT PRO!
I actually kinda like Kraken's changes. You could still hide super jumps for your teammates by using it in hiding. That salmon run change however...
Relatively pleased with this patch, Splattershot Pro and Nova are the ones relevant to me.
The thing about kraken is if you can get close enough and pop kraken near basket now you can actually do something with it and not sit there while your team jumps to you. Granted if you can manage that other team probably deserved to get scored on anyway
as a s’blast 92 player i approve of the new update to the weapon
i remembered i thought back then in i believe chill season where they nerfed ultra stamp's duration, i figured it WAS to accommodate low level play, but i think buffing AND nerfing it to be better in high and worse in low like they did with triple splashdown here is just a really big brained move.
I'm truly digging the PvZ ost chara!!
Also I agree with this patch is good!! It's most certainly a step in the right direction!! But as usual, I don't think they did enough in some cases, but it's certainly better than nothing!! :^)

Undercover sorella we’re going to town
We only have 2 more patches, so hopefully we get even more positive changes in those.
Another way the kraken cheese buffs kraken is for weapons that dont fight at short range but have kraken like liter and 96, they will be able to give good jumps even while using kraken.
You should make a video about the best weapon for each rank and modes
thanks for these types of videos Chara
i think the splatoon devs had no idea what were they doing when they came up with the splatter nova. maybe they just thought "wow look cool space gun, lol" and that's it.
Yes they do their is a reason this game keeps getting positive feedback with each update and no the other way around that you kee0 falsely claiming toxic egotis
I'm interested in the 9:03 image's base.
Anyway, as I mentioned on your video about Trizooka, I did suggest a velocity nerf to Trizooka's shots as the primary nerf idea. Even if what would be needed for velocity reduction would be only something like 5% since I don't have a good enough idea of exact values, I imagine as long as it's reactable at suitable distances, that would stop repeats of the Twitter display.
And I do notice that you bring up about a weapon called the Carbon Roller becoming the lowest Special Points weapon and having Trizooka available. Having actually played a Splatoon 2 demo before and using a Roller there, I do know that Rollers show signs of being so susceptible to kiting, so I can actually see the reason for that particular buff to a Roller. I can still punctuate this: *active involvement of gameplay for power characters is good at having the players make the power instead of the other way around.* It shows with Clubs in Kid Icarus Uprising. It shows with Bowser in the Super Mario RPG remake (which I know is purely single player, but work with me here). That sort of policy could be involved with rebalancing the Trizooka.
NOVA BUFF LETS GO (it’s been a thousand years…)
Also I love how on top of the pfs nerf, it seems like they’re also trying to indirectly nerf Pencil. They’re buffing other cooler weapons (dapple movement + vapple 170, h3 damage buff), and also affecting the abilities you can run on Pencil
By increasing the hp of Bubble via buffing the weak spots, the more it’s used, the more you will likely need more high object damage weapons to be able to deal with it. And if that’s not the case you’ll need to run Object Shredder. Which THEREFORE due to its horrid object damage, causes a Pencil to either have to run Object Shredder and replace one of its mains of SCU/SPU which then causes you to need to change your abilities around, OR you have to run a different weapon that has higher object damage to make up for it
Yo bade wake up kraken cheese is dead
i can’t wait to be a devil with sploosh 😈
I hope they give us something good for undertow like more ways to push the enemy base or another way to get on top of the glass things
I had an idea to buff Splashdown in high level play. Variable jump height. The more ink you had before popping the special, the higher you go. Half ink is around how it is now. This way, it at least is'nt going to be an instant flick muscle memory cancel every time for slayers
Now get ready for reefslider and crab cheese
I love to use splattershot and now pencil too
The first 160 special point weapon :D
Havent played splat 3 in a bit cuz colleged locked down my schedule. Might get back into it
they should just make it so u can't jump over wavebreaker and that way its like booyah bomb in which you have to get out (also the waves would cover area from a forward viewpoint)
H3, DAPPLE AND PRO BUFF OMG W, i wish they would buff my favs more often, but i also wish range blaster had it's s2 range and firerate back.

My beloved s blast got buffed!!! Booyah!

A good conclusion if you ask me, it's a step in the next direction, though incredibly little. I honestly have my doubts that they're going to be doing anything too influential though.
No coverage of the terrain adjustments to Undertow?
as a dapples nouveau /tetras main im happy with the buffs that we got some good buffs but nothing that makes base dapples usable like you said the kit sucks, i prefer torpedo over squid beacon any day
OHHHHH WERE REALLY IN IT NOW >:) (i use h-3)
This patch has killed my loss streak and made me love Sploosh again. I missed being a lil rat so much. I know Sploosh is not what everyone is talking about, but this is probably my favorite patch so far
That meme at 9:04 💀💀💀
I mean, not really. It's still an invincibile Super Jump spot. If people see you don't have the Clam Ball, you could try to pull a trick by distracting with the holder of the ball. Get close, activate Kraken, then have your distraction with the Clam Ball super jump to you. This definitely requires more skill, but I thunk this will honestly make Kraken cheese better. Now you can have multiple people jump to the basket while not having to give up any of Kraken's offensive playstyle. Basically this change while requiring better coordination, gave more freedom to Kraken cheese.
I love to see sploosh take a W even if it is small. Now to continue praying for a better kit.
3:14 agreed Luci
Oh, that kraken cheese... I thought they removed tower control kraken cheese...
Do you guys remember when pencil was really bad. Like when it was first added
Generally good patch. I’m worried that sploosh buff will make it even more of a rat weapon in solo q but otherwise solid. Undertow Pole incoming
As a casual I like this patch. No more kraken cheese, less op special spamming, and some little buffs to a lot of weaker weapons which I happen to enjoy playing! Finally played h3 for one of the first times in the whole series and had a lot of fun with it, and I'm eager to see how the nova accuracy buff pans out. Splashdown radius nerf is nice to see because I'm not good enough to shoot it down and it's pretty hard to run away from it a lot of the time
I know the 170 zap is objectively not a good choice but it's so funny how they want chump to be used so bad (plus my zap charge build makes more sense now:>)
Just a quick question to anyone who knows but is hydra splatling good in competitive play?
I'm currently rank -A & Im pretty decent with it but I still face the same problems with close combat. I was just wondering if it fits the meta.
From what I've heard, Hydra's never really been viable in competitive partly due to its slow charge speed. If it's displaced (by a bomb or a special or whatnot) whilst charging it can mess it up. But perhaps more importantly, it struggles against weapons such as chargers which can outrange it, Pencil being one such weapon. Of course, if you just play solo-queue, whether your weapon's good in competitive doesn't matter so much, especially since you won't always be going up against optimized comps that can counter you.
Also, I'm no backline player, but if you're facing problems with close combat you might be mispositioning. Fixing your problem with that may be less of a matter of "git gud at close combat" and more a matter of making sure you dispatch enemies before they have a chance to get close, or being somewhere that makes it difficult for them to get close.
@@freuner-merris
Thank you for the help. I honestly been kinda back & forth with this weapon cuz I sometimes feel like I need to be everywhere to help my team but at the cost of sometimes being in a bad position.
Didn't really know that positioning was this important to this weapon till now so thank you.
“Kraken cheese is dead”
Yeahhh a post I saw on Twitter says otherwise, one could pop Kraken at the basket and then swim away while the rest of the team can jump into where the Kraken was popped and still score like that
Definitely nerfed from before since the Kraken player still needs to get in first before popping it, but it’s not dead. Should’ve made it so that clams and power clams drop after super jumping imo
happy for any sploosh buff :) and its not weak, but lets just let ppl think it is :P
ok idc but can you do a video of killing reefslider with people?
We know that they are aware of what to do, and that's all I can ask for; they know what's important.
170p dapples were so back
Chara do you think Splatoon 4 will have splashdown and triple splashdown separate?
Pencils change probably won't be that big of a deal, but at least it's been addressed in a competent way
Ok but next patch they’ve gotta buff stamp right
As an Blobblober main, why they didn t fixed again the inconsistent blob shot animation in close combat, sometimes you can shot the all 4 and other only 3 are shotted and hit the opponent. This s really annoying.
crying, no big swig and no angle shooter buff
You should revisit the predictions made in previous videos after the meta has a chance to pan out. Do this in future videos.
I don't just mean talk about the same stuff, like "oh, splatershot is still meta," visit the predictions specifically -- "previously I said X, and here's what's happened since then."
Alternatively, just do an overview video on the effects of buffs and nerfs for the last few updates. How much *does* increasing or decreasing a special by 10 points affect the kit's playability?
As nice as it is that they finally nerfed Pencil, one thing I haven't seen many people mention is that they didn't undo 6.1's PPS nerfs to Tri Nouveau or Heavy Edit (or gray Zap but Zap deserves 200p honestly)
So even though Pencil has less Cooler output than before, it still has the best Cooler output out of all the Cooler weapons that don't have severe main weapon issues
If they take out reef zone cap then they have to do SOME sort of major buff to it, because without the zone cap ability that special is completely and utterly useless in every way. Right now though, Nintendo has abandoned that special for Splashdown and it shows. They just don’t care anymore.
idky it doesn’t let me play the video:(
For me as a Painbrush main it's a win for me🦅🦅
Orange Zap could be 150p and nobody would pick it anyway since chumps are terrible and have an awful cooldown.
Good patch imo. I actually think patches of this quality consistently are the best approach to the game. Ya they dont immediately solve the biggest issues, but if they stay this good then they will eventually without the risk of rocking the boat too hard
