Jonathan, this vid helped me realize two things I had not seen before. One importance is first attacking AVG (Tigers) in China before messing with U.K. Prevents US from building an IC. Second, by not bugging Calcutta early they may just build IN and not move past Burma. One thing I'd like to differ with you on though is not attacking the USN. An experienced 1942 player will have the West Coast fleet bolt for the canal so he can immediately move on Gibraltar and Morocco. It is imperative the IJF not allow the Pearl fleet to join that entourage. Even more important is that fleets role in taking Brazil and creating a one-turn distraction for US in the Atlantic. The race to Moscow depends on it. Once America starts chucking IN and AR in Europe, Axis is finished. Tef

Thanks for the ideas. I had to rewatch a bit because at 6:35 buying a second one and putting it sounds like a transport in context cos you'd moved past the word factory. After re-watching I worked out that was what you meant.

Japan is my favorite nation to play as! It would have been cool if 1914 wasn’t only in Europe and Africa. It would be fun to play as Japan taking the German islands in the pacific...

CODEwater Airsoft and More that's because Japan joined WW1 after and Germany had meager posessions in Asia. They also only had a weak naval presence in Asia in the form of the German east Asian cruiser squadron under Admiral Grasspee. ( 3 to 5 cruisers with a few other vessels I believe.)

Interesting idea building the factory first turn on the mainland! That makes so much sense!!! Why have I never thought of it before? Which territory would you recommend? I would imagine whichever has the most IPC production and is best defended.

That is definitely the right logic to apply. I used to think Manchuria but the issue is it is so far away from the India action. I have toyed around with placing it in a 2 IPC territory closer to India, or in Borneo.

Thanks, and yes. I just heard about it last night. I hope we get some more information soon.

We introduced $5 helicopter (,from Fortress America) attack & defend on 1, fly 4 and take land. I didn't realize how unbalanced of a unit it was, offered as a counter to cheap escort destroyers, my buddy always played his axis very aggressive, he had some upteen German helicooters IN in my USA capitol. had to deny the land taking ability eventually

Jonathan,Congrats on the SciFi novel. Do we have another Robert A. Heinlein in the making? Tef

Thanks Tef! I don't know if I can live up to the reputation of a writer like Robert A. Heinlein, but I aim to put out the most engaging material I can.

Hey are you coming to FMGCON in Sept? GHG and Hunter Jones will both be there.

That's in Ontario, right? I would love to, but I think the distance is a little too much for me. I do plan on going to Origins in Columbus and am leaning toward going to GenCon in Indianapolis, though.

I always open with my Battleship, Cruiser, Destroyer, 2 fighters and a Bomber against the Navy in Hawaii. Very safe usually only losing 6-10 points and securing an easy 32-38 points destroyed.
I just never like to allow America to link up with the BS n Destroyer. Most of the time it makes them completely leave me alone or it makes them over commit on my side leaving Germany sitting pretty. But I don't have the 2nd edition board XD

In the 1942 second edition board the Japanese ships in sz 60 (adjacent to Japan) cannot reach Hawaii on J1. You can only send the carrier (and or fighter) and destroyer from sz 50 and the sub in sz 44, in addition to the fighter and bomber from Japan.
This on average means that about one carrier, one fighter and the bomber survive, which are easily destroyed by the USA navy on U1, netting Japan (with some luck) another destroyer from the USA navy. As such, the preferred option is to not send the Japanese AC, and hope at least one Japanese fighter dies, so the AC does not have to move to Hawaii to provide a landing place for the Japan fighter. Alternatively, one could strafe sz 53 with a bit of luck, leaving only the USA fighter alive, sacrificing the Japan fighter and the sub, and then retreating the cruiser back to sz 52.
Now sz 52 is also in range of the remaining USA navy, but in attacking it USA will likely lose the rest of the navy in a naval assault from most of the Japanese fleet in J2.
