The funny thing is Jordan would be the last one to let you disrespect Bird. Jordan said about himself, Bird and Magic "People want to compare us and put one over the other but that isn't fair." Speaking about Bird "he was way above the game, way above everybody else".

Probably the most versatile player I ever saw. I remember going to a game against the Knicks in 1986. Bird only scored 17 points, but he had 16 rebounds, 12 assists, and four steals. And hit a dagger three in the closing minute to ice the game. If Bird played today, he'd average a thirty point triple double. In only the first three quarters.

Yes, do McHale. You have no idea how unstoppable he was. Ask Charles Barkley about McHale. He had an 8 foot wingspan. At the time, it was the longest in the NBA. Still number 4 or 5 wingspan of all time in the NBA.

Watch the entire game 6 of the 86 Finals and you’ll see the ‘eye test’ in action. No flashy #’s but Bird was everywhere on every play on both ends of the court. Screens & boxing out don’t show on box score but affect the game.
I’m a Showtime fan and by resume I have MJ & Kareem. By my eye test it’s MJ/Bird 1a & 1b. However i think it best to have first & second team by position. Magic, Air Jordan, Larry Legend, the Big Fundamental & Kareem Abdul Jabar! Steph/Logo, Kobe, Lebron, Elgin Baylor & Wilt.

    1981 Finals:
    Cedric Maxwell stats:
    17.7pts, 9.5rb, 2.8asts
    Larry Bird stats:
    15.3pts, 15.3rb, 7asts
Bird clearly had the bigger impact despite scoring a little less, I mean based purely on maths Larry was involved in more points scored. The 2 pts difference doesn't make up for 4 assists (8-12pts) per game. Especially as some of those points were scored by Maxwell off Bird feeding him.
Larry was robbed of the Finals MVP by the media, simple. So the Larry not having the third Finals MVP is a moot point.
57 wins, not 47. Although I see you meant without Bird, not McHale.

Yes, Bird should have won and he made one key play after another in the 4th quarter of game six. He simply took the game over. And that won the series.

AND - most agree that the ECF in 1981 was REALLY the championship series for the league. 76ers vs Celtics. 2 best teams in the league. AND it was also agreed that Bird was hands down the MVP of that series.

Birds FIRST ring, he was a SECOND YEAR PLAYER, and grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 15 points in that finals sereis, mchale was a ROOKIE that scored 10 points a game, Parish was a 20 and 10 C, good player, and then they had Tiny Archibald, on his way to retirement. And Cornbread Maxwell, give me a break, hardly a super team.. Jordan had Orlando Wooridge, a 20 point and 5 rebound guy, and Charles Oakley, a 13 point and 13 rebound rugged interior defender, and John Paxson, a dead eye shooter in 1986... hard to watch your videos man.

Magic walked into a great team and turned them into winners. Nobody can say that Nixon and Kareem were garbage. especially Cap. While Magic was the floor general, he wasn't the LEADER. That was Kareem.
Larry walked into a crappy team with retiring players. The only other person with any significance that joined at the same time was Carr. Maxwell was the most talent person at that time (In Deference to Cowens and Pete) on that team before Bird. NIGHT AND DAY. Larry is a high impact player. He quickly took over the team as captain in his second year and they won a championship.
MJ walked into the Bulls and made them... slightly better to make the playoffs team. And they sat there for years like that. While having the same mentality as Bird and Magic, he didn't have the leadership. He literally bullied his teammates into winning. There are many Bulls players that are very neutral about MJ while many of the Lakers and the (especially) the Celtics gush over the respective players. MJ wasn't a leader, he was the one in front and everyone else better follow or else. This doesn't take away from his talents as a basketball player, which are insane. But he loses alot of points in my GOAT conversation. That's why Larry is #1 and #2 is MJ. Magic is #3 and Kareem is my #4.

Yeah, the Lakers were loaded with players. Nixon, Wilkes, Kareem were all All Stars during their careers and at or near their primes when Magic arrived. In fact, watching several games during that first year it was Norm Nixon who played a lot at the PG position. Let's not forget Michael Cooper.

Larry was a far better passer and rebounder than Jordan, he was even more clutch than Jordan, and his IQ as higher. He was a far better teamplayer too. His team was better than Jordan's because he made his team better than Jordan's.
But overall I think you're right.

I'd agree. The Finals MVP was a rob. No disrespect to Cedric but Larry WAS better and should have gotten the award.

Jordan scored alot and BARELY IMPACTED HIS TEAM ABILITY TO WIN..
Bird's ALL AROUND PLAY TURNED BOSTON INTO A DYNASTY.

  • @soramirez5473
    @soramirez5473 Před 2 dny +1

ok if Bird was that nice he should have won finals MVP his second season.. true.. i'll give you that. Just like its if MIKE was THAT nice, he could have won ONE PLAYOFF GAME AGAINST THE CELTICS HIS SECOND SEASON.. or THIRD season.. 6 tries and the GOAT cant win ONE GAME.. atleast Bird was WINNING RINGS HIS second season.. shoot two seasons before that SAME Celtics team was winning 29 games.. and 32 games the year BEFORE.. IMPACT.. Jordan scored ALOT but BARELY IMPACED HIS TEAM..

the GOAT got swept. twice. by Bird. the BEST players on a team of HOFers.. and Bird BEAT the Show time lakers when they had TWO top 5 players of all time.. Kareem AND Magic..

  • @soramirez5473
    @soramirez5473 Před 2 dny +1

i'll be honest. im picking Larry Bird and his all round TEAM game over Michael Jordan..
    Bird
better rebounder, passer, ft % and 3pt %
    Jordan
more points and steals (tho bird almost averaged 2 steals and Mike almost averaged 6 assists for their respective careers.)
Same fg% and averaged the same BLOCKS (.8)
Bird huslted more and was more clutch. which is CRAZY cuz Jordan ALSO huslted and was clutch.
DJ, Parish and Mchale dont have HOF numbers. none are 20 point career scorers, none are double digit rebounders for their careers, and none averaged over 6 assists for their careers, LARRY BIRD DID ALL THAT,
so THOSE players are HOFers because they a have 3 RINGS.. thnx to Larry Bird..
when Bird went down after 6 games in 89, the Celtics won 42 games. 42 games.. (Bird NEVER wom less than 56 games prior and less than 51 games the 3 seasons AFTER 89
when Jordan retired in 94 the Bulls won 55 games (57 games the year prior)..
Bird MADE his teamates INTO HOFers..
Jordan PUNCHED his teamates in the FACE..
YOU can feel that way about Jordan. but DISCOUNT WHAT OTHERS KNOW
