    Great tutorial because you showed the important parts of setting up the new gears. Also keeping in all the challenges you came across was actually great. You kept your cool and worked through it all and it made it so much more real. Thank you for taking the time to put it together and sharing. 👍

    The correct pinion seal for a 12 bolt car is available from Ratech part number 6109

    The correct seal is the Ratech 6109 which will give you the proper depth.

    There is no guarantee that the face where the caps register is the center line of the housing. What you demonstrated is not the best way to do this.

      May not be the best way but it worked. It’s how the guys at Hagerty did it

    Can you explain the part that made all the difference a little better? What did you do to get the crush sleeve to preload?

    • @DaysofPainandVictory

      yeah, the richmond gears have a coating on them, kinda like paint but it's not paint, and its just enough thickness to cause the bearing to stick. I took a piece of 220 sand paper and lightly sanded the coating off, that's all it took!

    Getting ready to rebuild my rear to. Everything but the housing is being replaced. I went and bought everything from Strange engineering for all the parts including a new yoke. I asked them about having to space the seal and they said that they never heard that before. Maybe because they were sales people. I have seen multiple videos including yours that state that this is the case. Is there anyway to check to see if the seal that they sent me needs to be spaced before I put it together?

      I think this video explains it the best, not sure if it will 100% answer your question but should point you in the right direction. czcams.com/users/clipUgkxBwKF9uMb-f659TimtULtKaYTZ_0peEq7

    didn't you forget the thickness of homemade plate?

    • @DaysofPainandVictory
      @DaysofPainandVictory  Před rokem

      That thickness is irrelevant because it is included in both the pinion depth and the centerline measurement

    You know an oven worksl better.. quit watching as soon as you grinded away a bearing...

    • @DaysofPainandVictory
      @DaysofPainandVictory  Před rokem +8

      yeah that was a set up bearing, not the actual bearing I installed for the final. Its common practice to grind out a set of bearings so they slide on and off easily while you are figuring out your shims. Then once you get your shims figured out, use the oven, press on your good bearings.
