    To press on the pinion bearing, if you flip over the pinion in the opposite direction you did it, you don't need the pipe. You'll be pressing directly on the pinion gear. Easy peasy. :)

    Very instructive ,thank you. Question : changing 3:73 to 3;23 on my 10 bolt cover , is it ass. Easy gust to change gears. Or am I having to change Carrier. It’s a 79 Pontiac T/A. Thanks again.:)

    I came here because this video was a search result for "chevy bolt"... not quite the "Bolt" I was after, but interesting anyway. :-)

    ever used the solid with shims sleeve instead of the crush one ?

    • @iowadiy6361
      @iowadiy6361  Před 6 lety

      I’ve only used a crush sleeve before. Must be the cheaper option!

      I have used those; they take a bit more setup time, but there is not chance of going to far and ruining your crush sleeve. I start with all of the shims, then keep removing them until I get close, then figure out if more or less shims are needed to get exactly the pinion preload you're after.

    Looks like you have a hydraulic press but you don't have a bench Vice?

    • @iowadiy6361
      @iowadiy6361  Před 3 lety

      I have access to a press when I need it but I usually make do without a vice
