I always got the impression Khabib loved the competition aspect of MMA but he never liked physically hurting his opponents. This has not to do just with his temperment, it's also a result of his faith In God. And he never really enjoyed the fame aspect either because he knows that's not important to God at all. So it must have been very hard for him to have peace of mind while he was an MMA fighter...but I see now Khabib has much more peace of mind. People who say he retired too early don't know what they're talking about. He retired at the top of his game as Champion with no career losses and in great physical health with no serious damage...THAT'S EXACTLY THE WAY YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO RETIRE!!!

The rust from lack of competing played some part in that but I think mostly it was his mental change. He began to believe the hype, began to party more and train less and when he started believing he was invincible he lost it when he was shown he wasn’t. He didn’t come back from those setbacks like he did earlier in his career and life. Kabib is one of my favorite fighters and interviews of all time.

Not many famous people have the same thinking...but Khabib just simply wants to be the best MMA fighter and not really into the glamorous life...Like Keanu Reeves he's one of the biggest actors that take a subway train and just trying to be a simple person and also not really like a glamorous lifestyle.

He makes a good point about his fights being tough. People look at it after the fact and they see him beat elite fighters and finishing tough guys one after another, and they're like, Khabib smesh, he mauls people etc. But he beats people because he works extremely hard. It's not like he's taking a walk in the park and people fall over left and right. His pace is relentless over 25 minutes, he just goes and goes and he finds answers to a variety of very dangerous skills his opponents present him with. He's beating guys that are world class - Conor, Gaethje, Poirier, etc. That's NOT easy by any stretch of the imagination. To do what Khabib did is an extremely tough job. His work ethic and heart is what made him probably the best fighter 2015-2021.
And he's 100% correct on the motivation part. This is not Tennis or something. If you don't have the hunger anymore, you'll end up getting beat up. I think Conor is the best example. His wealth and ego got the best of him, he lost his mind just like Khabib described and he's just a massively diminished fighter compared to what he used to be. Tony Ferguson too - between his mental health problems, injuries and UFCs political bullshit that left him sidelined repeatedly, I think he just lost the fire. Honestly, I think Poirier is on his way out too. Right now, Adesanya seems to be real hot, he's right in the middle of an upward trajectory.

He's following in his father's foot step, taking over as a mentor and trainer. it's true for anything, if your fire goes down you don't care to do it any more as its no longer a challenge, and once you loose interest you will also loose and that will be bad thing so go out when you get the chance
