    I actually disabled hardware transcoding as I never have more than two 1080p streams at once and it's mostly a straight stream.
    This makes it much easier to migrate my Plex VM around as it no longer relies on hardware passthrough. :)

    I have an Asrock - e3c246d4u motherboard with IPMI, to enable hardware acceleration I have to use a secret BIOS menu (ctrl+alt+F3 while booting) and enable multi-monitor to have the Quicksync working in Jellyfin. FYI

    another solution is to possibly provide the additional Episode content using a merge episode plugin and having the 720 - 1080 - 4k files select-able minimizing trans-coding required. its a lot of extra files but if you want to minimize the trans-coding that could be an option. absolutely love the content here as I have an old 8700k cpu and motherboard that i could put to use till i get a proper low power setup.

    On ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P9D-I Series (motherboard) you can disable (literally turn off) both: on-board graphics card and iKVM module. It does not change anything. The built-in processor graphics module (some kind of HD Graphics, depending on the exact processor model) stays *disabled* and *undetected* anyway.

    @Wolfgang's Channel - Have you got a neat solution for connecting to your jellyfin server without a (static) IPv4 and only a dynamous IPv6 address? With neat i am thinking about using a Fire TV Stick Jellyfin App without modifying the Fire TV Stick. Just make it accessible for everyone who wants it (and got the connect data and a account to log in to it).

      Look into dynamic dns. That should fix your problem, if I understand your needs correctly. There are even free ddns services. You'll tie your IP address to the domain name and configure it so it updates every time your IP changes.

      That's really not a valid solution. I have some ripped Blu-ray disks on my Plex server, that are original size, and I don't want to re-encode them. It's not really a problem for me, as my TV can play almost any media directly. But my youngest son sits in a city far away, and only has a crappy TV. It can't play the videos on my Plex server, and my server is just a RPI4.
      Although a browser does have some hardware capabilities, a browser can also not play any file directly, in any case. Not even the official Plex app for Windows has hardware decoding.

    • @TheHugePotato
      @TheHugePotato Před rokem +2

      You know it has been an option for like 2 years now I think? In server's transcoding menu you click "Disable transcoding" or something like that and won't ever transcode. That's how my Pi allows me to stream 4k hevc videos to LG and Samsung TVs. I also use Emby but I tried Plex and it did work just like it should have. • @trignite
      @trignite Před rokem

      Disagree. You use a NAS to put EVERYTHING on it, like terabytes and terabytes of data. Then if you need to stream videos out to a device that doesn't support the source format you can do encode on the NAS server while streaming the output to the user. This works great. You COULD transcode literally everything before-hand, but what if the format is only needed for Timmy who watches on his phone, and the source format works well for everything else? That's a lot of effort transcoding every single file before-hand for Timmy when he's only going to watch two episodes of a show and stop. Its also a Lot of time, and space being wasted on the server.
