First half of my life I lived like I was rich, and was far from it. Now I am living like I'm poor, no longer living check to check. Living like I'm poor doesn't mean I don't enjoy life! I also find that investing a $ gives me more and longer lasting satisfaction (endorphins) than buying something. Good job spreading this message.

Alcohol isn't food. I put that in the entertainment budget. My husband brews, so I have to budget it outside of groceries.

Flip the script.
My fi journey is not about frugality. I used house hacking to eliminate housing cost. Then repeated it to reach fi. I have 11 units (small multifamily) and never have to work again.
When there isn’t a pandemic I:
Eat out all the time.
Have every streaming service.
Drive a jacked up truck or Corvette. (Paid off)
Watch a movie a week.
Spend a month a year in Thailand or Columbia.
All because I don’t have housing costs.
One change in expenses. No budget to stick to. No sense of missing out on anything. I am a single parent with three kids and reaching fi with house hacking only took 8 years.
