Alien Frontier is an open world, third-person shooter roguelite! This devlog covers the first six months of development on my game, made in Unreal Engine 5! This devlog focuses on introducing my game and also touches on how I was able to cover so much ground in only half a year.

Hearing the description I don’t think this is the kind of game I usually played and I’m not really interested at least by now, but I’d like to say that the aesthetics and the landscapes just look stunning. Incredible.
this -----> the landscapes just look stunning. Incredible.
This is insane man!!! Supeeeeeeeer cool! Keep going with this and good luck!!!
What you say about motivation is so true, getting finalized and good looking assets makes you feel like you're actually getting somewhere.
awesome video, can’t wait for the next one!
This is looking very interesting and I love the focus on paying attention to the things going on around the player! +Sub
That's so impressive! The thing i appreciated the most is your honesty about the time it took you, I hope that will be a huge success!
Looks really great, cant wait to see where this is going :)
I can't believe I just saw a Harry and the Hendersons reference lol good stuff
The way you exploer is basically the way WoW did it originally. No markers on the minimap except the city/villages. The only exception was the herbalist and miner finding spells. Quests would be done by reading the text and extrapolating where it must be done...no hand holding.
Looks amazing. I love the movement.
oh this looks awesome, nice job!!
Yes, i was going to comment it is prety developed to your first devlog. Sounds unique. Good job
Great idea, game loop seems really thought out and polished. Though I think the graphics and animations (especially for the player) are really holding the back
Full Comment:
Dude this is so amazing!!! I really like the game loop so much! Very clean. The video is very good too. Good placement of B-Roll and Memes(ofc) I have one thing though. The UI seemed a little bit off though. I don't really know if it is supposed have a wild west style to it(because of the saloon and such) but it seemed a little weird to me to have a super fueled character that is exploring these worlds to have a western 1800s style UI. I know that in 6-Months of development you can't just say "Ya know, I'm feeling like reworking every bit of UI in this game." So feel free to ignore this, but other than the UI Change, this thing looks epic, I love the character controller, and in my opinion the dash mechanic is really clean with the stretching of the character.
TLDR:
Looks Amazing!! 10/10 Would recommend!!
Thanks for the feedback! As for the UI, I'm going for a general sci-fi western style to the game, hence the visual look. I'll have an open mind and keep my eye on the reception, especially once I get a demo out into players' hands!
The game looks amazing! The only thing I could criticize is the main character's design. To me he looks kinda silly and not like a hero, more like a 70s funky band member in a cheesy movie. Other than that, loving what I'm seeing! Keep it up.
Thanks for the feedback! Fortunately the game will have multiple unlockable characters, so there will be a bunch of skins to choose from.
@@AfterHoursGames Can I add that the face of the character doesn't seem to match the style? That's just me though. Everything looks good!
For a 6 month job it looks like it has a lot of potential. This is going to get a lot of public interest
This looks awesome!! Can't wait to see how the project grows!
No way, I found you! how crazy is that. at the same time!
hay im a big fan of your videos
Looks so good man keep it up you will get succes of this I can see it
lookin' good- always focus never falter.
Hearing Game Dev Suggestion/Tips is very Good to Hear in a Devlog
Awesome stuff bro 🔥🔥 little suggestion 👌😁 oni the main menu, the window needs life (like what is outside the window) the blackhole is just "mmha" if that makes sense 😂
Keep up the good work though 👍👍
Good luck with your project! :)
Looks very cool and it is right up my alley, I would like to say one thing and you can do with it what you want. I would change to color of the cloth that is dropped to something else than red. Red usually indicates something dangerous (damage or an enemy/attack) which would scare people away from it, while it is something that's only on the ground for a short duration so it should be something immediately recognized as safe and "I want to get that!"
Wow your devlog #0 is more advanced than most people's #10 nice !
Amazing 🤩
One more suggestion more world events it looks pretty empty right now but still a could be fantastic looking game
This is sick
Looks promosing, and I can easily tell that you have been creating games before this one.
Some constructive feedback:
- The character (especially the face) doesn't match the rest of the game IMO. He could need a better silhuette with more interesting details.
- The running is more like moonwalking. Needs some tweaking there.
- The world looks kinda empty.
I bet you got plenty of plans for this as you progress throughout the next year, but I just want to give my takes on it so far. Excited to follow your journey. Subbed!
Looks pretty good
Great job!
A little curious about the terrain and outline style. Are you working with any textures or full shader styling?
Maybe some thing for the next devlog to talk about.
It's mostly handled by a shader, yeah. I can definitely dive into the process of developing a visual look in an upcoming dev log.
The game looks dope
Looks amazing. How did you create your world? I love the mountain ranges. That’s something I also want to create. Currently trying Sebastian Lagues procedural generation but I’m unsure if this is the way for me.
Most devs I usually observed especially ones using UE5 or UE4 mostly opts out a AAA shooting game with a bunch of quixel models but you on the other hand using such border lands style graphics itself made me interested towards your work…
Game looks really polished for 6 months! The bossfights look particularly interesting, as a 2d bullet hell, but it being such a high mobility 3d game makes a combination that i do not recall seing anywhere else
I got a question tho as someone interested on learning Game development, where did you learn to use unreal? I have been unsuccesful at finding any help
Keep it up
You should just remove the shooting mechanics and use melee attacks instead. Just try it once and I am sure you will love it. The shooting looks really clunky ngl. Also add multiple ways to find certain resources to make it more fun instead of just a grindy, un repayable mechanic, the last piece of advice I have is giving the player a bigger impact on the world, for example the ability to add powerlines and structures that buff you when you are near by or point you towards resources. Idk just an idea. My comment is very critical but I think this is an excellent looking game!
U need to change the skybox to some magical colorful clouds
Make it more juicy!
Hey. I noticed that your character rotates slightly when he walks , by any chance are you using mixamo animations as I have seen that issue in mixamo.
demo is not working on the steam page
Hello awesome game but im suggesting to use root motion in your animations like walk and run to Look more realistic and give a life to you character cuz you can see the character is a little bit sliding when he move
Awesome ui Design i love it 😮
Keep working 💕
Ah, that's a great point, thanks for highlighting it! I'll change those mobility anims to root motion, hopefully in the next dev log I'll have some updated footage of it.
what is this type of graphic / art style called for the assets?
Most of the assets are custom made, and the art is primarily powered by a custom shader I made. You can actually get more info in my devlog about the art:

Estoy trabajando en el desarrollo de un videojuego de estilo RPG en Unity y he enfrentado un desafío relacionado con la representación de pisos superiores e inferiores. Después de explorar diversas opciones como efectos de desvanecimiento y transparencia, no he logrado encontrar la solución que necesito. ¿Hay alguien disponible para brindarme asistencia en la resolución de este problema?
Is this inspired by risk of rain?
I will be honest, up to the half way it looked pretty meh, but around 4 min once you said that after a day your world upgrades depending on your missions it started to seem more interesting.
Hey there bud! Looks promising! Do you have a sound designer or musician on your hands yet? I'd love to talk to you about working together. Can provide a CV and links to examples of my work! How's best to contact you? I've wishlisted your game anyhow :) x
It reminds me of superman mixed with destiny
What are your pc specs
The main protagonist looks like freddie mercury
hear me out the game looks good but the problem with working open world games if u can see in the video u will see the the world is kinda empty so that why most of the developers failed with open world games and the movement it kinda off so try and make it more dynamic or make it so good for the shader and the art style is pretty good tbh and u can call this a feedback.
Keep it Up bro and have a great developing journey.
Good game...love the style but don't make it fast pace like running or using any special equipment the player has... It would make the game not so open world because open world games should focus on the exploration, discovery, etc
Can I join to your Small project? I am not an expertise in any kind of software graphics editor in arts, but I want to grow my self thought drawing ability ( I am not good nor perfect drawing) but I love to draw and I want to show you my self talent in drawing. I am just hoping I could use of help with a guy like me.
Nice, keep up the good work, your channel will bloom
