I hung from one of those lifts once! For several minutes, several feet in the air, until the operator heard everyone on the mountain yelling to stop the lift. Then my brother could get enough leverage to pull me back up and onto the seat. Pretty scary situation I gotta tell ya.

This was about 2 weeks ago. now, when I'm on CZcams, I make it a point to watch two or three of your videos each time I get on. they're very entertaining, and there are very few that I've seen that don't contain some sort of comedy. Possibly an animal got its horns stuck in the tree years ago, died there and eventually the tree grew around the horns. (My guess?) :) I saw a tree once that had an OLD bicycle INSIDE of the tree!

Beautiful views from that ride. My dad had 3 El Caminos. I learned to drive in them. Lots of memories of the ole designs of cars in this cookie cutter car world of today.

Adam, use a hair dryer to heat the bent part of your sunglasses, and then very slowly bend it back into shape. BTW, hanks for the video series from Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge. Watching them brought back many great memories of when my wife and I traveled there for weekend getaways. Sadly, I lost her several years ago, but I still go back to visit. Thanks for the great videos that bring a smile.... and a tear. :)

We were there in both 1993 and 1994 when the "Ripley's block" was being rebuilt. Ripley's was supposed to be reopen in the summer of '94 but in April of that year, the entire region was hit by massive flooding. Ripley's generously allowed all of the contractors working on Believe it or Not's reconstruction to be released to work on the the other attractions, shops and restaurants to get Gatlinburg back up and running for the '94 summer season. I remember seeing a sign in the "Noah's Ark" section of the Guinness Book of World Records Museum showing the high water mark from the flood at about six feet. A housekeeping at the Twin Island's Motel told us about all of their furniture and hit tubs floating downstream. But thanks to Ripley's generosity, you couldn't tell that anything had ever happened two months later in June.
Since it's your 5th Anniversary I think it's the perfect time to make the sunglasses change. Store it somewhere and bring them back for special occasions.
I really enjoy all the videos you have done this week. I have never been to Gatlinburg of Pigeon Forge and now I really want to check out some of the places you've shown.

I saw a retro one near me that was all done up like old Coke style reds, silvers, whites it's was great, but with modern tech. And really compact. The world is an amazing place, with amazing people. Just gotta step outside into it. That's always what I told my two girls. 🙂
As a glasses wearer....I would recommend getting and trying out a new pair before that pair breaks. That way, you can always go back to your originals if the new ones don't work out and you need to keep looking! Good luck!
I used to wear American Optics. Recently switched to Oakley they are stylish and heavy duty. I recommend the "Gascan" style with grey smoke tint. I can drive into the sun on the horizon and still see my gauges.
i love gatlinburg. i live in south east virginia. about 8 hours away and havent been to gatlinburg in about 10 years. this video is bringing back great memories. ive been there about 5 times. we always stayed at the park vista hotel up on the hill by itself

Grew up in East Tennessee. Cade's Cove outside of Gatlinburg is a must for beautiful scenery. Would love to see it. So much prettier than the bustle of Gatlinburg.
maybe head further south sometime in this roadtrip to wdw and pick out a new pair of glasses from there and retire those after. Loving the vlogs from the road. We love gatlinburg. We like to spend lots of time in the national park during the days checking out the many water falls, hiking trails, cades cove, and looking for bears and wild life. Gatlinburg reminds me of Wisconsin Dells in WI. If you ever get a chance, check out the Dells. You will find a lot of shops and stuff to do similar to Gatlinburg. You can even go on the Wisconsin Ducks ride on the Wisconsin River.

I am sure an eye glass store would be able to heat up the frame and bend it back into place, as well as doing the adjustments for your face. It wouldn't cost very much. It doesn't hurt to check it out.
Are you planning on driving up to Clingman's Dome and going over to Cherokee before you leave the area? I saw an old vlog the other day where you were checking out the old neon signs in Cherokee. It's not too far of a drive to the Bridal Veil Falls either.
Suggestion for future trips, Adam. Branson, MO. Silver Dollar City is an awesome theme park, and many of the rides and attractions were designed in partnership with Disney Imagineers!

Adam I may have found a solution for you that fits in with your philosophy of living a frugal lifestyle. On eBay I've found sunglasses called 'Wayfarer Sunglasses'. They're very inexpensive and you can find bulk lots of them (anywhere between three to twenty of them) to a lot. They look similar in design to your current sunglasses, only they come in a variety of frame colours and designs and different lens options. I've seen them as low as 99 cents for a single pair. I hope this helps!
Good to hear the old intro again conspicuously missing from yesterdays vlog. I was just perplexed and apoplectic over it, not really, I just like that word...apoplectic!

Adam, you're killing me here! I miss my mountains so much right now. October 1st can't come soon enough for me now. Go back to Pigeon Forge and film at the Titanic museum. It's so cool. Shaped like the actual ship. I did that the last time I was in the area. Really puts you in the time period and mind frame of the people who where on the ship. Oh, and eat at the Applewood Resturant. I mean it. Apple fritters brought to your table in place of a bread basket. You will litterally die of happiness after eating one.
Have you ever thought about contacting the tourism PR departments of these places? My Mom is a travel writer and when I go to places with her, she doesn't need to pay for most stuff. For example, I went to San Antonio for a convention and she tagged along and saw everything for basically free. Ripley's, Wax Museum, River Boat Ride, hotel room, etc.
I hope that they don't move the traffic to the outer byways, for there's more than a few motels / hotels that are cozily hidden in the trees next to the creeks on both sides of that town that just wouldn't be the same if they did. Our favorite place to stay is the River House Motor Lodge. It's old-fashioned and the cave-like rooms look like something that was built by FDR'S CCC, but it's quiet, peaceful, and the balconies are situated over the wooded creek. We love it there because you don't feel like you're in the center of town. Thanks for sharing this with us. Boy, Gatlinburg certainly has changed since I was a little kid. The "lady" with the balloon at the vlog's end shows how far Gatlinburg has gone in the competition with Pigeon Forge for the tourist dollar. 😫 Now, bars, Frederick's, moonshine stores, and waving "balloons" down main street is the new normal. Just after you left the ripley''s museum, you went on the skylift. That was a perfect "Believe it or not I'm walking on air" moment. lol

I am sure an eye glass store would be able to heat up the frame and bend it back into place, as well as doing the adjustments for your face. It wouldn't cost very much. It doesn't hurt to check it out.
Are you planning on driving up to Clingman's Dome and going over to Cherokee before you leave the area? I saw an old vlog the other day where you were checking out the old neon signs in Cherokee. It's not too far of a drive to the Bridal Veil Falls either.

This is so fun to watch, because I've never even heard of this place! Although, it's odd to my California eyes to see a "ski lift" with no ski runs carved into the mountain beside it. :-)

Adam I may have found a solution for you that fits in with your philosophy of living a frugal lifestyle. On eBay I've found sunglasses called 'Wayfarer Sunglasses'. They're very inexpensive and you can find bulk lots of them (anywhere between three to twenty of them) to a lot. They look similar in design to your current sunglasses, only they come in a variety of frame colours and designs and different lens options. I've seen them as low as 99 cents for a single pair. I hope this helps!
Good to hear the old intro again conspicuously missing from yesterdays vlog. I was just perplexed and apoplectic over it, not really, I just like that word...apoplectic!
By the way, THANK YOU for a video blog that is free of bad language. My Children can watch and I don't have to worry about what they might see or hear.
Adam, you're killing me here! I miss my mountains so much right now. October 1st can't come soon enough for me now. Go back to Pigeon Forge and film at the Titanic museum. It's so cool. Shaped like the actual ship. I did that the last time I was in the area. Really puts you in the time period and mind frame of the people who where on the ship. Oh, and eat at the Applewood Resturant. I mean it. Apple fritters brought to your table in place of a bread basket. You will litterally die of happiness after eating one.
Have you ever thought about contacting the tourism PR departments of these places? My Mom is a travel writer and when I go to places with her, she doesn't need to pay for most stuff. For example, I went to San Antonio for a convention and she tagged along and saw everything for basically free. Ripley's, Wax Museum, River Boat Ride, hotel room, etc.
I hope that they don't move the traffic to the outer byways, for there's more than a few motels / hotels that are cozily hidden in the trees next to the creeks on both sides of that town that just wouldn't be the same if they did. Our favorite place to stay is the River House Motor Lodge. It's old-fashioned and the cave-like rooms look like something that was built by FDR'S CCC, but it's quiet, peaceful, and the balconies are situated over the wooded creek. We love it there because you don't feel like you're in the center of town.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Boy, Gatlinburg certainly has changed since I was a little kid. The "lady" with the balloon at the vlog's end shows how far Gatlinburg has gone in the competition with Pigeon Forge for the tourist dollar. 😫 Now, bars, Frederick's, moonshine stores, and waving "balloons" down main street is the new normal. Makes me glad that I got to see the town in its old-fashioned heyday. Have a great day, Adam, and be safe.
