  • Harry was prowling around my wood pile and found another piece of Sweet Gum! A neighbor had asked me if I made yarn bowls. I hadn’t…however that didn’t stop me to give one a try.
    Thank you all for your support! I’m getting closer and closer to 500 subscribers. I’m starting to consider what I plan to give away once the goal is reached. I’d like for it to be open for subscribers across the globe so I’ll likely keep it a similar size to this bowl so shipping isn’t incredibly expensive.
    Feel free to share this video to get the contest here sooner!

    While the beaver commentary amuses me (I’m a Canuck after all), what I really enjoyed was the classical music instead of the constant chatter some other CZcamsrs employ. Thanks for that! Great looking bowl, nice tips, well done!

    Hi Hodge, sorry I missed the live but what a great piece. As result of sharing the same name, I believe that I have responded to some of the greetings intended for you when we watch other demos. Sorry about that.

      Robert, no problem with the greetings. I basically respond anytime I see a Robert! There seems to be quite a few of us lurking around in the lives.

      @@OurFrenchHouseRenovation I've seen some that make a jig and use a router with a flush trim bit. Seems like a quick method but might limit the yarn bowl shape.

    A nice bowl also the wood you have used and the side cut that you have created surely this not to be used as a fruit bowl I like it. Cu in next demo and take care of Harry bye till than bye 👋

    Awesome bowl Hodgey, that grain, colours and wood is great. I only found out yesterday what sweet gum is (well, the stuff that you call it). Thanks for sharing.
    Keep on turning.
    Cheers, Bluey 👍

      Thanks Bluey! It's been one of my favorite woods to turn just because of it's beauty. Wish it wasn't so prone to cracking though. Thanks again for watching!

    Great idea, Beautiful bowl! I guess I'm destined to attempt one for someone I know who uses a lot of yarn. Sweet gum is a nuisance tree here and I have several that need cut down. I did not realize it had such pretty grain inside. Chain saw time!

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, it's a beautiful wood! It can tend to crack though while drying even with the pith removed but that can can always be filled.

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Před 3 lety +1

      Funny story...at work, back when I went into the office pre-COVID we have these Folger's prepacked filters which we use. I'd say the office uses 6-7 of these in a day. I have some other ideas I'd like to try with coffee grounds in the future but it requires lots of it, so I would take the used filters secretively to my office and then take home, spread out on newspaper, and dry outside in the sunlight. I've probably got about half a gallons worth at the moment. It would be way easier just going and buying a few big cans of it but I suppose I'm trying to be thrifty!

  • @leapinglemurcraftworks6426

    That came out very nice. Question on the poly finish - spray versus wipe on with the lathe ate the slowest setting? Any difference? Why do you use the spray vs the wipe on?

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Před 3 lety +1

      Well, I'm using spray just cause the can is almost empty! But after that I've got the wipe on lacquer to use.

    I noticed you took Harry's mic away when he was watching you spray that lacquer and didn't have a mask.. I expect his language got pretty colorful the more he inhaled the fumes.

  • @swedish1337

    What was that tool you used to cut into the swirl on the side of the bowl?

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The bulk was removed with one of those oscillating tools and the rest was with my Foredom rotary tool with various bits.
