    First time I tried a yarn bowl and I used a resin/wood hybrid, the resin separated from the wood where I was cutting my holes for the yarn, ever since then I haven’t tried it again. The video makes me wanna give it another shot. Thanks man and great vid.

      @@WolfRidgeWoodworking I started with 1/16" then 1/8" holes on the drill press. Then main tool was a Dremel 1mm diamond burr - very easy to control w/ a light touch. ... here's a link to the vid - the jig on the drill press was so simple yet so effective. czcams.com/video/b4V55zuTP4U/video.html

    Oh, that's how you do stuff like that? I didn't realize I just have to get a bit for my Dremel and I could do those cutout areas like that. I'd like to make one of these for Jenn (once I get my stuff and get it setup and get some practice in....so maybe for next Christmas =D )

  • @hapaperspective
    @hapaperspective Před 3 lety +3

    Don’t you need to rough cut it and let it sit first? That bowl could warp as it adjusts to its new shape.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations Před 3 lety +3

      As long as the blank was dry it should be okay. Most commercial blanks are kiln dried. But sometimes the warping of a bowl adds that beauty to it. Just my opinion though.

    • @hapaperspective

      @@MoonpieCreations that makes sense. Thanks for the response.

    • @WolfRidgeWoodworking
      @WolfRidgeWoodworking  Před 3 lety

      I agree with @Moonpie Creations and it was around 7% moisture before I turned it. Things dry out pretty well here in the arid air of Arizona. It was a very hot and super dry summer so a lot of my blanks dried out nicely even though they had a wax coating. Take care! - Ed

    Hi Ed. I love your work. Mmmm Sassafras. I must try a yarn bowl from solid timber one day. I have broken many slots on the yarn bowls I've made. Once they have been glued back in place, stronger than before, though to get a seamless join is hard to do sometimes. I keep watching with enthusiasm. Rob

    Hi , never seen sassafras being turned before , rather bitty when hollowing , probably won't get it in the UK, ,. Yes I like wood because I can recycle the shavings ,but I don't like resins , because the shavings cannot be recycled ,, sooner or later it will end up in land-fill,,. Well anyways stay safe,,. Regards Alf

    • @WolfRidgeWoodworking
      @WolfRidgeWoodworking  Před rokem

      Thank you for watching! I was using a Kutzall Extreme Burr 1/8" shank. The is an Amazon Affiliate link in the description. It can get tense when you are cutting a slot in the bowl after spending so much time making it. Looking back, I might have used a coping saw instead. Please consider sharing your bowl on my website under Viewer Projects. I'd love to see what you make and share it. Take care and have a blessed day! - Ed
