The Elvis thing was a rumor. People tried tracking it down but it usually always lead to someone lying.
Elvis was very supportive of black performers. He would praise them regularly and even publicly called Domino the real king of rock and roll.

Seemed like one of those things where some people felt they had ownership over it and then got jealous when he got called that. Im sure the culture of the time played a part. Always just seemed a little silly to me. Music has been inspiration based for most of history. If anything its a compliment.

Movies require larger resources and more complex coordination of people. It's why they are so compromised right now, because of the sources they have to go to to invest in a film project. Advancements in and accessibility of tech has certainly democratized a lot of the processes, but even on a small indie scale, it's still a huge group project.

the issue is not even that they are changing the characters, its that they change it with an agenda/purpose/objective behind it, despite what the common fan thinks of it, and its so transparent that people cant help but feel angry.

Finn was the character teased for new Starwars that I was most excited for. Then they made him comedy relief and I found myself asking why they threw away a character that had so much potential to be interesting.

Ironically about the Pinhead thing, the new Pinhead is actually closer to the one in the book.
In the original book Pinhead was very androgynous with a feminine voice, and the reboot seems to be going with a variation of that with the new actress playing her.
Doug Bradley will always be iconic as Pinhead, but I'm willing to give the new one a chance.
In addition, Clive Barker (the author of the book) is working on the reboot, so this isn't a case of "changing Pinhead just to change Pinhead", but rather a different interpretation from the author himself.

I grew up in the 70's and loved it. Sanford and Son, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Superman/ET, Star Wars and Six Million Dollar Man. Halloween, Friday the 13th and Superfriends. Straight Outta Compton was not accurate. Arabian Prince was written out of the movie. He was one of the original N.W.A members.
If you make a movie and market it as “based it on historical events” you have to be as historically accurate as possible as that is how you are marketing your own movie.

Pinhead was originally a woman in the books, and that's the defense some try to make. The problem is that most people know Pinhead as the dude since they only know the movies. In visual media he is long established as a he. So, let us see the storm to come. *eats popcorn*.

One small problem with blowing up original characters.. Those take time and EFFORT and studios don't want to do EITHER.

We want to be entertained and connect with things we find righteous or relatable but that is different. I connect with personalities, not gender or race. I think it's more a matter of people being upset with the woman king glorifying an indisputably vile society, whereas 300 it was the embellishment of the heroic defense against invaders. Sort of similar is the Cruella movie, trying to rewrite the past of the character in an attempt to make a psychotic puppy killer a sympathetic admirable self made woman.

To be fair to the Hellraiser reboot it is being more faithful to the novel. In the novel you can't tell if Pinhead was male or female. Barker himself made the change in the original movie to make Pinhead male.
