This advice is incredible. I've been really struggling with learning by ear and this video has given me some ideas on how I can do that through improvisation!
Very interesting video! As a music and banjo teacher myself I started to try to teach improv to my more advanced students, this video is really breaking up the subject to details! I would add also the connection between composing and improvisation, I think good way to start is by simply make your own lines, in the end its improvisation without the time pressure element which can be very intimidating to beginers.
