That's becsuse the studio version is not good..... Compared to this version its almost hard to listen too. Marko and Floor realy was needed for this song to shine. Atleast in my humble opinion....
Kai's drumming is just off the charts in this one. Marko is the devil (metaphorically speaking) amorously pursuing the mermaid who's having none of it.

I'm not religious at all but this I'll offer up a prayer for. With the world the way it is now we all need Nightwish and Floor more than ever.
I love when Nightwish gets theatrical. You could say they are acting with their voices. Especially Floor is so good at it. Is there anything that woman can't do? Release the dolphins, Floor!

Great reaction. Timely to note that Floor has just announced she is battling breast cancer. The prognosis is good, and they caught it early, but the Nightwish army is shooketh.
Shooketh indeed! Hopefully the treatment goes well. Even after hearing and enjoying the past singers (a lot) I can't imagine Nightwish without Floor.

A song that Tapio just didn't do justice to and Tarja couldn't sing like this.
On the album it is unremarkable.
When Floor reinterpreted it with Marco it rapidly rose up my favourites into joint 4.
The bursts of grit she puts in just a couple of words in the phrase is astonishing- the quick switch back.
The drumming is madness.
The dolphins are trapped in the Devil's aqueous domain and they will be set free by the merpeopke in the simplest interpretation..
In Slaying the Dreamer in this show she goes even further, at the end of a 2 hour show.
That again is a song that was not done justice on the album.
Floor really is the only one who can do what she does. And Kai - good Lord, what a beast.

Marco is the devil who tries to seduce the mermaid (Floor). It becomes a battle between good and evil and obviously, in the end the mermaid wins. Something like that?

MARKO has said that this is a "love song", a poetic metaphorical love song of a man (Devil) and woman (Mermaid of the Deep Dark Ocean- the Oceanborn) where she does not return his love or seductions. ""I will die for the love of the mermaid, Her seduction, beauty and scorn". In the end they break up "setting the dolphins free", their "song" is over but will carry on, "the eternity will begin once again in peace" they both move on.

From the second album, Oceanborn(1998), which predates Marko in the band. Tarja sang the original with guest male vocals by Tapio Wilska.

That song has always been awesome, but Floor's and Marco's chemistry and theatrical way to perform it, take it to a whole new level. Imho that's some serious musical theatre vibes right there.

In one interview Tuomas/Marko said that Floor has a lungs of a dolphin (That long note is 💥)!!!
Plus, she holds the last note (A4) of Nightwish - Ad Astra for 17 seconds (10/6/2022 Sweden Festival).
If this wasn't impressive enough, I can also add than now she's just one, I mean ONE, second short from equaling Pavarotti's longest belt ever recorded.

Brandon, I’m laughing 😂 You had watched many NW songs before this one…….2 min into the song, you comment that you didn’t see it going anywhere (I paraphrase)…..then, as always, Floor squeezes you until your head pops off 😛 …..love your reactions and hats off to you for doing the marathon of reactions.
Tuomas is a master of changing the tone of a song just as you think that you know where it is going. Amazing. Add in the world class musicianship and vocals, and you have Elysium.
Great video this song is a symbol presenting the earth, and the earth is filled with human and their " human nature", between dark, evil and the oppositie the Light and good (ness) which is in this song between Marco and Floor. And finally" the good" mostly Will prevail and win over the evil and bad.... this you Will hear in the end, that when Floor sings: we shall let the dolfins free, like the earth also Will be different, and we Will have again another ice-age, and everything starts over and over again, like the planet always has.. what the universe is and Will always do😉🤘🤩
CZcams will archive that we at this point knew Floor fought off a bout of cancer. It will change something.

Bit late to the party, but .... Marco is a (or the) Devil trying to seduce Floor as a Mermaid personification of the Ocean. And not succeeding! It's one of Tuomas' earlier compositions, which often had fantastical/mythical themes. See also 'Ghost River' - Marco as the Devil (again!) trying it on with a Gaia/Mother Earth type of personification.

One of my favorite Nightwish performances ever.
This one is a little taste of Nightwish mythological Musical Theater. A touch of fantasy fun. This a very old song from Nightwish.
My understanding is the song is a love song from the devil to a mermaid.
The song is about the devil trying to seduce a mermaid and the mermaid isn't having it.
I dont know why, but the way you worded the meaning of the song make me laugh. You are spot on, but it just made my day for some crazy reason =)

And to think, Floor was sick as a dog with the flu during this concert.
It is the classic tale of good versus evil, the devil trying to essentially rape and impregnate a mermaid with his evil seed, to rule the earth. As in most of the good vs. evil, good prevails in the end.

I don't have a channel, so I don't know the answer to this question. Why are some of you youtubers like yourself not going to full screen and You shrunk down in the corner! And by you I mean everyone that doesn't do it. When we want a reaction, we want to see the video and the reactors reaction and analysis. We don't need a screen smaller than a dollar bill buried at the bottom of the screen with the reactor begging to subscribe! It's got to change.
