A few words about the list you refer to. First of all, there are 3 lists: the first with songs performed together with the current singer, Floor Jansen, the 2nd with songs performed by the first 2 singers of the band, Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon, and then a 3rd list, with suggestions from the fans, received in comments over time.
There is a diversity of the musical directions approached, which can already be seen after the first few songs in the list. You can also see the originality, each song being different from the others. Very possibly, after going through the first 2 lists, you will have a brief idea about the band's evolution over time, you will more easily recognize the era in which a song or another was composed.
I know that the fans insist that you listen to them all, but my main idea was that you have a choice, not to feel limited in options. Of course, your decision to take the list in order makes me happy :)
I'm not a metalhead, until Nightwish I mainly listened to electronic music, pop, rock, classical and modern Celtic music, Fado. From my experience so far, metalheads are mostly honest and direct people, and not particularly diplomatic. This is an advantage, when you are used to saying what you think. So don't be tense, everyone knows that you're not a metalhead, and they don't expect you to act like a metalhead.
What can you bring to the reaction, besides "wow"? Well, comments from the perspective of your experience regarding the interpretation, of any kind. What does the song tell you about, explicitly or meta. You have already done and are doing this.
For me, this song describes a situation that I went through, like many others, of a relationship destroyed by betrayal, lies, deception, as well as the associated mental reactions, of self-blame, of the one who ended up in this situation. "And try to survive your stupidity!" - the end.
Thanks so much for this comment. You and so many on these videos have made me feel more comfortable and pretty safe to be open and express myself freely on these videos. Nightwish fans are truly one of my favorite fanbases that I've met since starting on CZcams. I'm glad that you and others find some value in what I put into these videos. I hope it's obvious that I put my whole self into them. All of them, really but there are a few fandoms that I put a little extra effort into respecting and Nightwish Nation is definitely in that list.
And thank you for your interpretation of the song. I meant what I said: hearing interpretations from different people really does help open up the music in so many different ways. Thanks for sharing in my journey here and for sharing yours.

@@tnae The lists have another explanation: there are many uploads by fans in YT of the same recordings, but of mediocre and bad quality. For example, most of the fan uploads from the BluRay source of the Wacken 2013 concert are 4% slower than the original, due to a technical reason. With the help of the lists, I make sure that the reactor has access to good sources.

It was a few years ago when I discovered Nightwish and now I'm retired and can spend the rest of my life traveling around the world and seeing Nightwish live. Now I can end my days in total happiness

I am on board with your retirement plan. Carol (my wife of 41 years) and I had the pleasure of traveling from Phoenix, Arizona to San Francisco to watch Nightwish live at the Warfield Theatre on May 18th, 2022. What an unbelievable experience. I just wish they would do another Nightwish cruise like they did aboard the Baltic Princess in 2015. So much fun. Her presence on stage is mesmerizing. Almost otherworldly. Saw them live not too long ago for the first time. Thought I was prepared. Nope. I was blown away. Greatest live show I have ever seen in my life.

Yeah. You go to a Nightwish concert for the first time, and you think you know what to expect. Then Floor hits the stage and it’s like you get whapped in the chest with a 150 lb feather pillow. It doesn’t hurt, but it rocks you to the core and kinda knocks the wind out of you. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced.
Floor gets into so many vocal styles in this one, from girly to angelic to suitably abrasive. Marco's solo part is full of frustration ending in despair. Magnificent teamwork from them, one of the recorded gems from Nightwish live.
that final note that Floor hits: HOLY SHIT!!!!!.....Gabriel is the General of the Nightwish Army (South Carolina branch here)......he's the successor to the late Ann Wycoff, whom we all loved.....

I’ve been listening to Tarot and Nightwish for whole my life, i’m a finnish person and I live in Finland and I must say that I really dislike this ”Nightwish army”, who seems to manipulate people and sometimes even give misleading information.

@@marjoriittasavolainen7080 maybe cause you listened since Tarja era when they started in Finland but you have to admit they still relatively unknown to many in the states and worldwide but ever since reactions started become a thing and specially once isolation from covid started factor in it them reactions made them popular to a whole more people who would likely not have been exposed otherwise. And Nightwish army being persistent superfans but usually keeping it polite too and mature contributed to this because they raised awareness to the band by requesting reactions to it.

Misleading information? We all are just people and people get things wrong sometimes. That's human thing.
As a whole, the Nightwish Army are good people from around the world that will always give support and respect to others. We do have our outliers though that are abrasive and insistent on you must do reactions to their standards: ignore them. Many have advise to help your experience (like rewind a bit after pause, but again it is your channel and must but done in way that remains true to you.
Gabriel is the best! He's been filling the shoes of a now-deceased Nightwish Army General whom you will see named in your Song of Myself comments. (That was her favorite.)
Though incomplete, his list is a wonderful start and gives people a gradual introduction to the scope of Nightwish's skills in small bites until they're ready to tackle the Big 3 (which you've already done). Many reactors don't want to risk a 30-45 min video until they see it will be worth it. You saw the value right away!
For you, Gabriel's list may be less powerful, but you'll still love the songs, and we'll be here for each reaction. Follow your heart, though, and be sure to include some new ones from the Human :||: Nature album, too!
The good thing about Nightwish is that their songs always offer a new side and a new surprise. I don't really like metal at all, and yet Nightwish has been my absolute favorite band for years. Does that make sense? I don't care.

Every member of this band is a master often under-recognised in the general rock music world.
Tuomas (Too-ommas) is z keyboard master and compositional and lyrical genius.
Emppu can do anything any of the better known names can, often better.
Marco is not just a fantastic bass ayer but lead singer in his own right, not just in Tarot and Northern Kings but zlso in a number of Nightwish songs (The Islander from Tampere, While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley and particularly the tribute to Floyd, High Hopes from 2005).
He also plays 6 string which in Nightwish you see when he plays The Beast.
Troy can play anything that can't run away from him.
Kai is a monster, hence his nickname "the human metronome".
Floor - well you've sent a small (I mean small) part of what she can do with her voice and there's a lot to come.
Gabriel's list is not gospel but is an excellent guide. You can do it out of order, or throw in extra things, at will, but it will guide you through many examples of the different styles Nightwish can exhibit - and very usefully he gives a few words on the style you might expect.
You may want to mix in some Floor solos - herbtwo singles, Fire and Storm; some of her Beste Zangers performances like Shallow, Phantom of the Opera (with Henke Poort), Winner and z number of others.
There's even a video somewhere of a TV host handing her the phone book and her singing it.

We totally know (I know) you meant no disrespect on TPATP...we over-corrected you so you'd gain knowledge and understanding.
After Tuomas Holopainen (pron: TOO-oh-Moss) writes the album, the band goes on a retreat together to rehearse and perfect the songs before going into the studio...so by the time a tour starts, it's easy, comfortable. That's what you're picking up.
Glad you are revisiting Gabriel's list...you're going to have an amazing experience! It's a progression, an emotional ride. Gabriel's is the peer-appointed General of The Nightwish Army. He is a man of grace, much respected!
Now, let's talk about the wnd singer, Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and incredible vocalist both solo and in harmony. One song that he sings alone, that you MUST hear/see, and I don't think it's on the list..is the band's tribute to Pink Floyd with High Hopes live from End Of An Era 2005.

The list is just a guideline to great quality video links. Gabriel also tries to change up the style from song to song to give reactors a taste of the variety of Nightwish compositions. Some reactors are strict metalheads, and Romanticide gives a good taste of the Nightwish metal sound.

Tuomas has said (I'm paraphrasing) he writes each song as a thematic film score first which he then adds lyrics to. To my untrained mind that, along with an unconventional use of both metal instruments and orchestral, gives Nightwish that unique feel. Like it is a genre in itself.

There are no interlopers. If you love listening to Nightwish, you are one of us. You are just earlier in your journey than others of us. They don’t do this one all the often live, but felt it fit at Wacken, and they were right. One of their heaviest songs.

One of my favourite nightwish songs. You have certainly gone for the bigger more epic songs first but they have so many different styles to offer 👍 keep up the great reactions. Gabriel's list is a great way to start out with the Nightwish journey.

Great reaction as the other ones you have done before with this band, Commander Gabriel gave you the list as a guideline, it´s a long one, but it´s jut the start, i guess any song performed by them is the next jewel you will listen and enjoy, and it will become your favorite, keep doing them and we will be coming back, about the issue with Poet and the Pendulum i would say that everyone has their way to react, some do it with background and research and appreciate it more for it, others do it blinded and enjoy for itself cause that what Tuomas does, masterpieces.. you have to do it your way and try not to get affected for comments that say otherwise, keep rocking and stay safe

I don't comment much but I watch a lot of your reactions and I really enjoy your description and the depth you go to, but also that you can describe your thoughts in a way that I can understand. I'm no musician, I have a guitar and a keyboard but struggle to learn on my own, so I understand a little, but I always learn so much and see new things I didn't see before in songs. So thank you for taking the time!

Some people are butthurt very easily. In the Poet and the Pendulum there is a shot of Emppu smiling at the audience.
If the band can find lightheartedness during that song, so can everybody else.
And you're not an interloper, you just enjoy music, no matter the genre.
That is something to applaud and nothing to feel uncomfortable about.
Floor is, in my opinion, the modern equivalent of Freddy Mercury. She has such a presence on stage and rapport with her audience, backed up by incredible vocal talent, it’s impossible not to get mesmerized by her.
The reason for the list and it's order is that Nightwish is a journey through the mind of the songwriter Tuomas, where the songs are like pages in the book and the albums like chapters.
The songs show his insecurities, his progression in life, his progression as a songwriter. Now, not all songs have to be played chronological to still keep the story intact. The list includes flashbacks and flash forwards. Fans like Ann Waychoff (may she rest in peace) and Gabriel have viewed thousands of reactors and managed to optimise order of viewing to build the tension and show all facets of the band.
However, since each reactor has a different background and different likes and dislikes the list should be tweaked accordingly. Take out a song, add another, switch them around a bit, but always with a reason. The list is the list because in general is the optimum experience for this journey.

The fans of Nightwish like to call ourselves the Nightwish army. Gabriel is known as the General. We all can be a bit fanatic at times and usually with the Poet and the Pendulum the fans would prefer warn the reactors to do your research first about the open letters and the split between Tarja and Nightwish the fans mean no ill. Tuomas like Thomas but pronounced more like Tor Mas. The keyboard player was supported by the band during that song as he was very sad. It is a song that has never been performed again. Thank you for your reaction and if possible do check out the Nightwish movie Imaginaerum in your own time or maybe as a reaction but either way would be good to get your thoughts on it.

Marko is an amazing singer on his own and had tragically lost at a point his higher falsetto after a botched opperation to extract a polyp. He shines even more on couple particular songs he duets with Floor like in Greatest Show On Earth, 7 Days to the Wolves, Ghost River and the extra theatrical Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean or with Tarja Phantom of the Opera. Also has his solos like The islander, the amazing tribute to Deep Floyd High Hopes and Endlessness. But i would in particular suggest you check him on his previous band Tarot on the song Tides . Too bad currently he is off the band for personal reasons. Hopping he returns at a point
Marco did an interview a few weeks ago in which he made it pretty clear that, while he does enjoy performing, he has no interest in going back to something as big as Nightwish. He is enjoying doing smaller things…staying, as he put it, “ in smaller circles.” Plus, Nightwish just announced last week that Jukka is now a full time member and is their official bass player.

Gabriel is correct…personally, I don’t feel that Nightwish really fits into a particular genre, especially for the past several years. They don’t really tick all the boxes for any one specific style, but rather bring in a lot of bits from different genres to make something that is unique, as well as ever-changing. As you listen to more of their songs, you’ll begin to recognize some of these bits and pieces, be it classical, Celtic, etc. I think there are probably a lot of Nightwish fans who don’t consider themselves to be “metal” fans in general. I really don’t see you, as you said, as an outsider…if you enjoy their music, you’re in…simple as that. Looking forward to more. ☮️

The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classical trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast

The purpose of the list is to show the reactor the different styles the band is capable of and to get the reactor attached to the members. When the reactor has taken enough of the different songs in, they are then supposed to experience The Poet snd the Pendulum. They will have a much better appreciation for the song and everyone involved in that very difficult time in the band's history. The journey continues with pieces from other shows to flesh out the catalogue a bit and get some different sounds to prepare you for The Greateat Show on Earth.
Loved your reaction and great comments. I think Nightwish's lyrics are pure poetry but I usually just go on how a song makes me feel. Nightwish definitely hit me deeply emotionally. I too am not a metalhead but I do love them. Can't wait to see them live this November 💚👍

You are entirely correct about them having fun together - don’t let the Poet and the Pendulum comments stain that. If I remember, it was when Emppu stands with Tuomas and they both smile. Yes, it was Emppu doing a “wellness check”, but they both grin and smile which makes your statement correct, they are having fun in the gravity of the moment - all you missed was the other aspect of the interaction that, if you didn’t research it first, is impossible to understand by just watching cold.
THE KEYBOARD PLAYER IS PRONOUNCED (TWO OH MAS)
C’mon! I’ve been whole of my life ”techno-house-trance” -genre (from late 80`s) and never into metal. But as I like classical, Austrian polka, Irish folk and even German schlagers I was also sold with Floors performing Nightwish at first hearing. Yes, I am even Finnish and did listen sometimes them with Tarja and was mad when they didn’t get to go to Eurovision song contest, but mainly Floor blew me away.. she completed them so well!
I am so glad that there is so many different music genres which have good music; good music is good music! And Nightwish is great music! 😍
The only front person equal to Floor in my opinion was Freddie Mercury! Something to keep in mind when this festival happened Floor had not become a full member of the band. She was still a fill in and had only been with them like 10 months.

If you can find the time, watch “Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours”. It was a documentary that was started to record their world tour on the release of Imaginaerum, but changed into a story, due to extreme situations, of how Floor came to join the band under drastic circumstances. You will see the genesis of the band chemistry with Floor. BTW, it is mandatory viewing for wannabe Nightwish Army recruits……

Thank you Sir! It just seems she approaches every cover completely differently! "Shallow" (solo) so delicate and airy, "Euphoria" so power-pop, "Alone" so stripped down and soothing, the Disney songs...such an upgrade of the originals, her other songs from "Beste Zangers"; dear God! And her performance of her own song "Storm" on the German show "Sing meinen song" just left me breathless... I can't explain this woman, I guess nobody can...but what a joy to be able to appreciate her many talents...

The finnish laguage pronounces EVERY letter in a word, so the composers name is T U O M A S H O L O P A I N E N....We europeans sometimes also have problems pronouncing your girl names (with a certain skincolour), but we try it at least 😄

Heavy metal is not a genre I normally would explore since it seems to me to be a cacophony of noise which is very jarring and uncomfortable to my senses. But it was Nightwish, with "Ghost Love Score" (to start) and Floor that showed me how heavy metal can be beautiful, have a story and be musical. Floor herself is such a talented artist, her versatility in singing pretty much any genre is amazing. But I do need to give credit to Hua Chenyu. Hua is known for his brilliant ability to convey emotions with the most subtle of expressions and movements; but from his song “Seven Personalities”, in that genre defying song, he ends with a heavy metal, almost manic performance, that left me with my mouth opened, wondering what just happened. At the time, I was not sure if I like it or not; but it was so powerful. It was after that performance, that I ran into Nightwish, and now once in a while, I am willing to dip my toe, at least into the music of Nightwish and of course the amazing Floor.

Be aware that Floor is Dutch,Troy is British (Northern England) and Annette is Swedish So for those names Finnish pronunciation may have an accent. The one person that is missing in the video is the current (stand in) bass player, but fortunately his name is Jukka, which is the same name as the first drummer.

great reactions; i just want to add this........sometimes the "nightwish army" can be douche bags. i've notices a lot of fans shitting on reactors who give honest negative opinions on a song; i remember one said that the song she was listening to just wasnt for her; nothing wrong with the performance, but she just didnt like the song.........she got so much hate just for being honest.
i say that to say this......i dont understand the hate you say you got on "poet"; its possible to perform an emotionally heavy song and still have fun and enjoy the "work" you're doing. like i said, sometimes they can be assholes.

PLEASE react to the Nightwish movie Imaginarium. Yes, they made a 90 minute long feature film and it's sooooo bad it's good. Cheesy and cliche lines, bad writing, bad CGI, horrid acting, It makes Cats look like a freekin Spielberg film. East some edibles and just laugh your ass off! I have yet to see a reaction to it.
