Abaddon, also known as Abaddon the Despoiler, once named Ezekyle Abaddon, is the Warmaster of Chaos, a Chaos Lord and the greatest Champion of Chaos Undivided in the galaxy. He is the commander of the Black Legion of Chaos Space Marines and is rumoured to be the clone-progeny of the Warmaster Horus, the greatest Traitor in Imperial history, and at one time his most favoured son amongst the Space Marines of the Sons of Horus Legion.
Abaddon is now infamous for leading Black Crusades, the terrible military campaigns during which the normally fractious forces of Chaos unite under his leadership and launch a massive attack against the Imperium from within the Eye of Terror. The most recent of these attacks, the 13th Black Crusade in 999.M41, led to the fall of the vital Imperial Fortress World of Cadia, the birth of the Great Rift that divided the galaxy in half and the start of the Noctis Aeterna.

I heard Eisenhorn and everything involving him is good, especially because he's not really a good guy, he's a hard fucker and an example of how the Inquisition are authoritarian sons of bitches lol, but there's so many books involving the bastard it's kinda overwhelming ;-;. I heard 15 Hours is awesome because you really get how distopyan things are for the Guardsmen, without any sugarcoating or bullshit about how well disciplined and brave they are, in the end they are desperate young people that are totally not ready for this and are mostly treated as cannon fodder and even if they win sometimes lol. I wanted to read Gaunts' Ghosts because i loved the First and Only's aesthetic + Tona Criid looks badass but i heard the books are pretty much just action books that are paced too fast, at least until Necropolis or something, so i want to know if the plots get good and if there's good character development and dialogue etc. Lol there's so much shit to read i just can't decide help.

And i say that as someone who, if i could afford, would probably become an IG player. I like the story of the fall of cadia, but the regiment itself looks so basic when compared to pretty much all the other's traits and gimmicks. I love the Valhallans because of the Cain books, i took a liking to the Armageddon Ork Hunters cuz of their gimmick and lore, and i'm about to get into the Gaunt's Ghosts books because i like their aesthetic and Tona Criid looks badass and i hope she gets her spotlight in the books lol, and well in the face of all the other regiments i just can't see the appeal of the cadians @.@

In the end all i'm really saying is that they look rather bland on the surface at least, and the whole "bravest and most disciplined" thing doesn't appeal much to me in a setting in which we have 15 Hours to show how actually fucked and pointless the life in the Guard is. They have that "everyone is a hero" look but the Imperium is most certainly not, in fact every image of them looks like blatant propaganda, and the constant spamming of "cadia broke before the guard did" doesn't actually help lol. And now that i mention it, i hope Gaunt's Ghosts has more to show than just action scenes...

Just a tiny stunted version of the big guy everyone remembers and liked; despite what he may, or may not, have actually achieved on his own. Everything about his up front design just reeks way too much of trying to make Horus But More-us and it ultimately harms the entire character because there is a lot of potential for Abaddon. Especially since they can't have him be too successful or too cool, so every defeat not only makes people roll their eyes at how the edgelord lad failed again; but it ultimately brings up direct comparisons to Horus who *nearly* brought the empire to its knees.

Night Lords rarely work with daemons because they lack faith in Chaos.

Terminators are heavy assault. Walking tanks basically. Doesn’t mean the man inside is “better” ; but it’s a position of honour for any assault marine to be picked for terminator squads.
They are neigh impervious to smaller calibre fire (up to bolters) but relatively speaking a sitting duck if you get spread with lascannons or meltas.
So it takes balls to get picked as terminator ; even on astartes standards, cuz you’re going to be teleported in spear-tip assaults etc.

Primarchs aren’t just their genetics. The Big E bargained with the Chaos Gods to get them “special” souls. Hence their supernatural charisma, warp powers even if they aren’t fully fledged psykers.
And clones don’t have the “special warp spaghetti” soul of the original primarch. So that’s why they are still superhuman giants with crazy physiology, but that’s about that.
There’s this fan theory that to truly bring back a Primarch you would need to clone a body, AND find his original soul to put in the clone.

Abaddon eventually begins to resent Horus and call him a failure, he believes that it was Horus giving into the power of the warp that doomed them (reason Abaddon hasn’t become a demon prince yet) Abaddon will use chaos as a weapon but he will not let it rule him.

Fun fact: in italy there is this concept of "bestemmiare" which is a huge deal in italy.
It saying a particular saint/religious figure next to a slur or insult toward that figure.
So for the word bearers to be italian it's strangely fitting

@@sodagod4709 He was a main protagonist of a game "Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 1&2". BG:A1 was during 12th Black Crusade and BG:A2 was a little after the fall of Cadia.
During BG:A1 he was a captain of Dauntless Class Light Cruiser and after several battles with chaos was promoted to Admiral and tasked with defending the Gothic Sector from Abaddon. After 12th Black Crusade failed the madlad gave chase after Abaddon into the Immaterium. When he emerged it was a Little over 800 years and he heard a distress signal coming from Cadian Sector.
Of course, he isn't canon, but damn, Such a wasted opportunity.

In case someone hasn't already mentioned it: Abaddon's sword, Drach'nyen, was once a major Chaos daemon lord in charge of a fuckoff-huge army of daemons and fought against the Custodes and Silent Sisters in the Webway during the Heresy. The Emperor had to conjure up a literal fucking star to close the portal to prevent the daemons from overrunning the palace.

The Talon of Horus was originally built by the Dark Mechanicum for Warmaster Horus shortly before the start of the Horus Heresy, but was taken up by Abaddon after his master's death and the reclamation of Horus' body from the hands of the Emperor's Children following the Battle of Harmony.
