- Do big baits work in very small water? In this video, I will answer that question for you. This little tributary to a big river system here in Ohio has a very healthy smallmouth bass population. I looked to see if these skinny water smallies would hit larger baits. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

I love throwing the traces! I use the 6” ones but man I’ve still been catching nice largies with the grace in small creeks!! Even today!

Cool video, Bryan. I've been playing with the Trace past month or so and didn't see you had put this out. I like to drag and bounce thigs across the bottom, so big baits like this are new to me and I haven't figured out whether small tugs or straight retrieve works best yet. Such a difference between 6" and 5", and floating and sinking. My favorite so far is the 5" floating (Bone). Small tugs and a pause, and that thing has great action. Big problem is they seem to hit it more than bite it, so not many getting hooked. Fun like frog fishing to watch the blowups though. Not much luck on my 6" slow sinking ones yet. Thinking they will be better as the weather cools down. Great action on them as well.
Chris I really like to burn these suckers near cover and fish in the upper column of water. I’m usually fishing it shallow anyhow in that 5-7 foot range. I seem to get alot of HITS when I slow it down. I believe they like it fast and more so get a reaction bite. I really like this little Swimbait. It’s caught me well over 70 fish this year.

Haha I’d go bust the antler off and use it for a rattle call in deer season because my first buck had one antler and I didn’t know it till after I shot him so I kept the antler to use to call bucks to me in the future so I need another antler 😂 all my bucks since then have been too nice to not mount lol

South western Ohio, kinda looks North Fork creek that dumps into Paint Creek. It follows the bike trail from Chillicothe to Washington Courthouse. I grew up on Rt 28 and fished there all the time. Alot of Buffalo suckers and Rock bass. They are some deep hole with smallmouth especially towards Frankfort. I want take my bike , colapse rod and of course my 5" trace over there.

That is the vmc rugby jighead! Typically the 1/8 oz or 1/4oz
Definitely need to tinker with the bigger baits more myself. I do toss plenty of larger soft plastics but rarely hard baits.
I’m stoked to get that many bites on the Trace. I also missed 3-4 more bites. It definitely surprised me
