  • Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection that happens when some normal bacteria that live in vagina overgrow, causing a bacterial imbalance. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) results from an imbalance in beneficial and harmful bacteria in the vagina. It can cause vaginal itchiness, unusual discharge, and a characteristic odor, among other symptoms. Symptoms include an off-white or gray vaginal discharge that smells “fishy.” BV is easily treatable with antibiotics from a healthcare provider.

Boric acid vaginal suppositories 300mg or 600mg of intravaginal BA to be used 2-3 times per week are considered safe and sometimes used to treat recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) when combined with antibiotics like Metronidazole . An extended course of metronidazole treatment (500 mg twice daily for 10-14 days) is recomended for recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis
