I have brushed her a lot always, but it made next to no difference. So I bought some better groomkng stuff following your example. Yes indeed, sometimes you need different tools or different products than what you have on hand, to help keep your own pet’s coat clean and healthy. I’ve learned how a lot of different tools can be used from watching Vanessa’s channel - curved shears have always baffled me, but now they are one of my standard tools. Different kinds of dogs need different tools; nice thing about these channels is you can compare your own Wet Noses to the ones being groomed, and see what sorts of tools Vanessa uses to address different things.

    My dog and I hold paws every day. It helps her anxiety around her paws being touched enormously. Start slow, then over time do more by feeling gently between the toes and touching her nails. Patience and consistency has made it so she doesn't panic when someone else needs to handle her paws.

      From that strong of a fear reaction…I have a feeling someone cut one or more of her nails too short in the past…which hurts. I’ve actually seen groomers/vet techs who will cut the dog’s nails down to where they think they “should” be regardless of where the quick…aka NERVE…is! As they just use the powder to quickly stop the bleeding & think that’s the only issue!🤬 And just one really bad experience can make a dog distrustful & fear aggressive. Pet professional here! I’ve been bit by a dog because the parents failed to tell us their beagle was food aggressive. They accidentally broke out of the yard while I let another dog out to go home, they grabbed a plastic bag of food, and was trying to tear into it. I grabbed them under the waist, and grabbed the bag on the opposite end of where she had it in her mouth, and was doing everything as safely as possible to avoid being bitten. Well, she lunged out if my arms, grabbed hold of my thumb, and wouldn’t let go. Later we found out she was found on the streets, and is very food aggressive…. They’re lucky no one was majorly hurt, but my boss was also bit while trying to get the dog off me, and we both bad to get tetanus shots because of it. Always, always, ALWAYS tell us if you know their is an issue with the pet. We aren’t going to judge, we just want to keep ourselves safe. If we knew she had the food aggression, we’d have done things differently, and neither of us would have been bit

    I had a really sweet looking senior yellow lab type dog who got her nails trimmed at vet appointments because she was aggressive for the nail clippers- touching paws was fine but when she saw the clippers she went ballistic. Vet did his exam and I asked the tech to put her in a muzzle, the vet overheard and said no, no muzzle she’s fine. I reiterated that she did not like having her nails done but for some reason the vet was adamant that the tech not use a muzzle. Vet left, I told the technician to just get the muzzle to be safe and he declined because the vet said she was friendly. She immediately turned into Kujo when the tech approached with the nail clippers and I said “See?” with a smile and asked him if he would please get the muzzle. The vet didn’t see my dog get angry so when the tech went to the back he again told the tech no muzzle needed, popped his head in, petted the dog to see that it was friendly and in the meantime, the tech slipped a soft muzzle in his pocket, gave another half ass attempt and finally, FINALLY we used the muzzle and there was no incident. I’d had the dog for 14 years at that point and knew it was a toss up that they’d be able to do it at any given time. Eventually we learned she needed a muzzle, she preferred being on the floor not table, and that she felt much safer if I was in the room holding head and distracting her. She lived to be 17! I picked her out at the pound when she was 8mos to a year old ❤️ she was an excellent dog but definitely had some quirks that made her so much more enjoyable to have for so many years.

      I have 2 Anatolian shepherd mixes, both rescues so exact crossbreed isn't known (our vet says DNA tests aren't particularly accurate, so don't bother) but the big male is pretty beefy and heavily built (120 pounds) and has large dew claws so we think he's got some Pyrenees in him despite being more of a brownish red color. The 90 pound female is long-limbed, lanky and tall; I joke that she's part giraffe! She runs like a cheetah or an antelope, agile,, fleet and fast. They are very chill and awesome with strangers and children, but they both have strong pray drives; whenever they've seen sheep or goats they act like they want to eat them rather than guard them, and woe be to any squirrel or chipmunk that wanders into our fenced yard!

    As an owner of Great Pyrenees and Chows, you did an awesome job with the dense undercoat which can be so incredibly thick and endless it seems 🤣. Pyr and Chow owners both need these tools in their arsenals to brush their dogs in the spring especially the tail. This is when their undercoat shed like mad and it can lead to matting.
    A lot dogs do not like to have their nails clipped so I am used to seeing dogs react like this. I only have had one pet that did ok with having them clipped and I thank the Humane Society who found the baby kitten at five weeks and got him used to baths and nail trims when he was barely bigger than a can of beans.

    Can’t wait to get our brand new Great Pyrenees pup started at the groomers! I’ve learned so much from your channel and others about how to take care of their gorgeous fur. Our other dog was half GP/half retriever and he wasn’t fond of his feet being touched either. But he didn’t put up a fuss. He had brown fur, but double coated. We brushed him daily. Our new pup is only 2 months old so she has a bit to go before we introduce her to everything.

      A RESPONBSIBLE breeder will a have had those pups on grooming tables, getting nails cut and getting used to being brushed starting at 2-3 weeks of age (I cut nails weekly starting right after birth).
      You should get the pup up on a surface/grooming table right away to learn to chill while up there and start handling her feet and brushing her every day.

      @@lasgsd1 I understand your reasoning. I am brushing her daily. I wasn’t sure on when to start cutting nails, so I was going to ask the vet on Monday at her 9 week appointment. Don’t worry. We have an incredible breeder who has done amazing things working with the pups getting them super socialized. And I’ve been touching the pup’s feet a lot drying them off. I’m sure it’s going to work out. I brushed our other dog regularly and cut his nails. I didn’t learn to trim his feet until later on in his life, but he was a gentle soul and let me practice after I watched a ton of these videos. I didn’t do a great job and will seek help from a professional this time but I’ve got a plan. GP’s don’t need full on baths all that often. Just brushings, checking for hot spots, matting etc. and ours will be an indoor dog with a big backyard to play in, not a dark dog, so she will stay cleaner. Thank you for your concern. Our breeder is very reputable.

      @melindajohnson9726 Před 11 měsíci

      @@jeno264 again, I understand the reasoning. But another reason is the cost. That’s why I’m doing as much as I can at home. The professionals are worth their money for sure. But I have to cut corners a bit as we live on a single income with 3 kids. We never had our other dog professionally groomed and he never had matted fur or irritated skin or was even dirty as far as I could tell because I clipped his nails monthly, brushed his hair daily, fed him some of the best and most expensive dog food on the market, we have a grassy backyard, he didn’t like water, he never had fleas, we didn’t take him many places bc of his size so he just wasn’t exposed to a lot of stuff, etc etc. He was the gentlest dog you could ever meet. We have 4 kids who could do anything to him and we are home all day bc we homeschool. This new pup will have a similar experience. I’m not worried. The irresponsible thing to do is what these owners did and another owner did a few videos back and not bring a dog in for years and expect you to get all the knots and matts out of your farm dog that you never brush. So, compromise and doing your best is fine.

They use a poll service where people can suggest nominations for every category. Then, you pick the nominees. Then, a second round where people can only vote on nominees. You count the votes and "present" them. Some categories to consider might be:
    - The Lord/Lady of the Dance: The best tapdancer of the year.
    - The Underdog: A dog that was said to be horribly aggressive but turned out to be misunderstood and sweet.
    - The Grinch: The dog with the grinchiest feet
    - Crazy Cat: The most dramatic cat of the year.
    - The Howler: The best singer of the year.

The clipper size and shape fit the nail contour better to provide a sharp cut without and of the “crush” feeling the anvil style does. And when her nails are soft it doesn’t promote longitudinal cracks.
