  • Welcome to Atos Medical's overview of Provox ActiValve, primarily designed for laryngectomy patients who experience early leakage through the voice prosthesis. This comprehensive video is made for healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in the key features, clinical evidence, care instructions, and proper placement techniques for the Provox ActiValve.
The Provox ActiValve's blue fluoroplastic valve flap and seat help prevent the accumulation and infiltration of biofilm, which can interfere with valve function and cause early leakage.
Two magnets prevent accidental opening of the valve flap when the user breathes or swallows. The Provox ActiValve is available in three magnet strengths: Light, Strong and XtraStrong.
Clinical evidence: Prospective study with 102 patients
Clinical evidence from a prospective study with 102 patients demonstrates that Provox ActiValve offers the longest average device life of any voice prosthesis. Provox ActiValve is designed to address early leakage due to biofilm build-up, negative pressure, or a combination of the two.
    Care and maintenance
Proper care and maintenance are crucial for optimal performance. The Provox ActiValve kit includes dedicated brushes for cleaning and lubricating the prosthesis. The video covers how to clean, flush, and lubricate the voice prosthesis to ensure the longevity and functionality of the device.
    Determine strength for your patient
We will also help you determine the appropriate valve strength for your patients. Based on certain conditions, such as excessive biofilm or negative pressure, we recommend starting with the Provox ActiValve Light or Strong. For patients with persistent central leakage, the Provox ActiValve XtraStrong may be considered.
    Voice prosthesis placement
Understanding the proper placement of Provox ActiValve is essential. Follow our step-by-step instructions for tracheoesophageal prosthesis placement, including threading the safety strap, inserting the prosthesis into the loading tube, and securing it within the tracheoesophageal puncture. Our detailed visual demonstration ensures accurate and secure placement for effective voicing.
Before concluding, we emphasize the importance of scheduling a follow-up visit within three weeks of placement to assess voicing and manage leakage effectively.
Provox ActiValve is not intended to be used in freshly made tracheoesophageal punctures. Patients should not undergo radiation therapy or have an MRI with an active valve in place.
