First why is no one talking about what clearly is mines. (Nautilus soon maybe?)
But onto the reason for me posting.
I disagre. The savage arms, make more sense. When you think about how players die most of the time. We die when reloading, our gun 'jams', or when we underestimate the ammount of ammo we need.
In a way this fits with pyro, not because of scarcity of resources, but because pyro is where a lot of fights occur. If your regularly in fights where 50 clips of ammo aren't enough a bayonet makes sense. If your gun takes a long time to reload, it makes sense. If your gun jams 1/250 shots, well you get the idea.
If you have scarse resources, a gun which wastes them does not make sense. In that scenerio a gun wielder would be a status symbol. If you had scarse resources, a gun you could recharge would be preferred. But even better, a knife, sword, axe, or mace. Bows are a maybe as arrows are not always recoverable. Limited resources favor reusable devices.
Guns like depicted, show a advanced wasteland where resources are plentiful, but access to tech is there but limited. Thus they make the best with what they have. This fits in my opinion, since pyro has stanton as a neighbor.

I disagree it's a neighboring system to Stanton and it's run by gangs...... bullets would simply be a higher value in Pyro. If your a gang using axes going up against a gang using guns your not going to be a gang very long. We should expect to see real guns with real ammo used by every gang not pipe guns Frankensteined together. That is very expensive and dangerous to any operator. That should be what we see on a settlement made by random guy and it be extremely rare to see being sold anywhere. If weapons are made in Pyro they should be manufactured realistically and chances are they would be weapons that Stanton would prohibit. This making a market for Pyro made guns to trade with gangs in Stanton for resources and ammo.

@@unforgivingreach I'm not sure what you think I said. But it sounds like you agree with me, but think you don't?
My point is that Pyro isn't an area of scaresity. If it were then they would be favoring axes and the like. What they are is a place with limited access to technology. On the rim of a place where its abundant.
I did not say pyro wouldn't have guns. What I said was that if resources there were truely scarse then they wouldn't have the resources to maintain disposable munitions. They would favor technology which could be easily reused.

The thing with Star Citizen is that it's going to be a massive game with lots of system variety. All the guns and ships looking like they're made by the same team would cause a lot of visual repetition and fatigue. Giving each system a unique brand of visual design language is vital to making locations identifiable and unique feeling. So yeah, I think the new designs are great and fit the system of Pyro perfectly.

    • @VoidyVids
      @VoidyVids  Před 22 dny +7

I found the design and look of the stations in Pyro absolutely mind bogglingly incredible, but if you were to put a gun to my head and find ways to critique, I would say its a bit underwhelming that all the stations in pyro fit the exact same aesthetic.
I agree that variety is important across systems, but some inter-solar variety would be nice too! Why couldn't multiple corporations have built different types of stations throughout Pyro? Imagine stumbling upon a station that resembles Everus Harbor in Pyro, but its all delipidated and defunct? And vice versa, a pristine station from Pyro hanging out in Stanton - this seems to make sense from a design perspective where a house of digital art and 3d assets goes a lot further.

I really enjoy these. It's nice to have balanced yet critical take on SC. The reality is that 90% of the commentary out there is either CONVINCED this shit is a total waste of money OR guys that have still not gotten over the fact that your ship can take off.
The commentary surrounding SC is so unbalanced. I cannot tell you the number of times I've seen a guy comment "Oh the developers intend for X feature to one day look like this" and you just have to step back and go "My guy, you understand that it took them a nearly decade to reskin their damage models (how things change when shot) into salvage gameplay right?". Like I get it, the game has potential, But let's ground our expectations in reality please.
The project in reality, is complex. There's a reason why it's continued to rake in millions (selling a dream plus demonstrable progress towards that dream). And there's a reason why it's nowhere near done.

Honestly, I appreciate this refreshing take on a Star Citizen Update video. Voidy's content is always fun but the points you raise here are very fair. Ideally I would hope that come death of a spaceman things like travelling into dangerous systems like Pyro or going out to explore uncharted systems becomes rather difficult to encourage you to engage with the other systems in the game. Crafting and refinery as well as base building and trading will only work if scarcity is built into the game.
Is this asking alot? Maybe, but seeing Star Citizen has long claimed to be up for the challenge it would be very disappointing if systems like Pyro played like Stanton but with more regular PvP.

Yea I don't think its asking for alot at all - I hope this is the direction it tends to go in eventually. I think it's part of the lore, each system is going to be a different system.
I hope they change the supply systems in Pyro and other systems. The environments should affect those things. Not many people will be sending their cargo ships into the area. The environment and the people who live their aren't going to be really easy to get along with. The possibilities are amazing.
I have played off and on for a while it has only been since February of 2024 that I have spent real time playing. I have developed projects in my time nothing on this scale, the base tech seems to be working much better. They really have reinvented the wheel here.

Hey Voidy, really liked your take on the visual style matching the gameplay. I think as you mentioned, if Pyro ends up having a smaller economy, less stations etc and ammo and supplies become more scarce then the styling of the melee focused weapons makes sense - it just depends if the gameplay involves more than left and middle mouse clicking. It's nice to see them basing some designs off cobbled together existing weapons as I think that would be the main source of any standard pirate gear. The space AK I'm not so sure about - I feel like we're far enough away from modern times that even the AK design would be a relic. I'm all for more content though, and I do feel that everything about Pyro should be unique at launch, even if they do go overboard with the aesthetic a little bit.

I like how Pyro could be used to organically offer the PvP area vs the PvE areas. There can be a sliding scale basically like leveling up. When a noob, stay in Stanton and have very little PvP action. As you get better you can venture to other systems with less UEE presence and eventually end up skilled enough to wander into Pyro. So much better than random invisible walls that you must get your player level high enough to enter.
It will be difficult for CIG to pull off places like Pyro. As you said, it needs to be devoid of so much that is readily accessible in Stanton. Cannot have unlimited ammo at every station. Cannot have unlimited Behring P6R at every station. One day it will hopefully be possible to sell a Cutty full of them to the station and have them available for other players to purchase for high prices. But to make those new guns more than just a DIY skin of a Behring, they would need to be cheaper and less accurate than the Stanton weapons. That would give the Stanton weapons value and entice people from Stanton to try and haul the freight to Pyro. I know Voidy loves PvP, but I think Pyro will prove that most MMO players prefer PvE. I think the player count in Pyro is going to be much lower than some people expect. After the newness wears off and the risk of running cargo into Pyro is not balanced with the reward, the number of casual cargo players will reduce drastically. That is IF there are enough PvP pirates on the servers to dissuade the PvE players from entering Pyro. As it stands, the only place I typically see other players is at stations. I see way more in stations than I do in LZs. If Pyro is as empty feeling as stanton feels, then you will get PvE players to go there. If 100 pirates are sitting at the jump point and they have somehow all joined together to block any PvE cargo ship trying to enter Pyro, then you will see a reduction in the population playing in Pyro.
I want to see player counts in the systems after Pyro is finally in game. Hopefully it proves that CIG should cater less to the pirates than PvE players. Then again, knowing Chris, if he wants a PvP game and the numbers show only 10% of his players inside his new PvP system, he will still insist on following that path.

It apparently takes a lot of time and money to duplicate the known (and imagined) universe down to the finer details.
When people talk about the depth, breadth, and scope of this game they often forget to consider the timeline - we buy new-looking ships from a used-ship dealer (New Deal) that have purportedly been in active production for over a century but there's a uniformity to everything that would be weird IRL.
If you consider anything that we have now - there's a huge variety in even common objects. There are an easy half-dozen or more different major electrical outlet designs in use in the world; some people can pick the country of origin of a car just by looking at it.
In a vast Sci-Fi universe where you're also bringing alien tech / products into the mix - it'd be more of a wonder that you can find any two of the same thing in proximity to one another, rather than seeing any kind of excess.
There is artificial uniqueness all around us, and presumably always will be - humans hack things like it's an instinct.
I don't know if the tech exists to support one player seeing another's personally cobbled-together doohickeys in an MMO but I've already heard CIG devs kicking the idea around - you know somebody there wants to try it.
That would be the ultimate expression of this approach - My bayonet looks like this 'cause I made it myself out of a random piece of hull that I scavenged.

Weapons have same problem like ships. We have lot of them, but still no place to enjoy them.
Also, the new weapons don't make much sense to me. Right in the next system (Stanton) there are full-fledged new weapons. I would understand modifications to existing "Stanton" guns due to lack of parts. But why a whole new series? Especially when traveling between systems is presented as a completely normal and cheap thing?
In addition, this would open up a new option with missions to smuggle weapons and parts - if there is an import embargo in the Pyro system.
And there could also be missions from the Pyro system to the Stanton system to raid weapons factories.

Some of these new pyro weapons look like a step towards Borderlands or Warframe and so forth, with weapons that don't even make sense and are all fantasy/magic like.
To be clear, I don't even think that is a bad thing PERONSALLY, I usually like that sort of thing, just saying, this is an unexpected direction for them and it's understandable some people might not like it. I'd have expected the more whacky designs to be reserved for alien weapons.

Getting away from a gun meta (whatrver that is from patch to patch) is going to promote difference between systems, if that means jagged bayonets so be it. Aa long as we dont go too far into chain swords, power fists and bolters of course. Different weapon types will add interest and perhaps game loops. A contract to supply 100 P4s with 1000 rounds of ammunition each to a Pyro gang, because thats a stack of superior firepower sounds good. As long as the artistic direction links to the setting, then I don't see what the problem. You're dealing with social class at this point (YOU'VE MADE IT POLITICAAAAALLL!!!11!1!) - it doesn't make sense for people living in relative poverty to rock flashy state of the art corporate guns. That's why, to be vaguely crass, we've got people in the middle east rocking AKs from fifty years ago, while the wealthier nations are testing a bunch of weaponry that literally looks like it's come out of a sci-fi convention (including a bunch of stuff that didn't work very well like the XM-8 series).
Pyro is some kind of space-themed Mad Max bit of the verse, you're probably not going to find Stanton's finest out there. More to the point, it does work - purely because it's visually tied to an idea now. Someone weilding a flashy looking machine gun could have got the thing from any of the established corporations and distributors in the more lawful parts of the setting. Someone with their duct-tape pipe gun is clearly a Pyro inhabitant.
Up until now, the visual style has been very particular because you haven't got a setting that has facilitated anything different. If I could run around Stanton and buy a pipe rifle at the big snow complex, it'd be weird and out of place.
That said, I think you've nailed a big point of the verisimilitude of the setting - if you're implying relative poverty, then you've got to sell relative poverty. If the vendors are shelling out heaps of rounds instead of knives and axes, and every lift works and the electricity doesn't die on you all the time (hows that's that load shedding going?) then I definitely think that starts to rub the wrong way.

I dare to disagree: you recognize a federation starship you have never seen as part of the Star Trek franchise. The same goes for imperial star destroyers and Star Wars, battle barges and Wh40k, etc.
If you didn't give me any context and showed me, I don't know, the Arrastra, I couldn't recognize it as anything but "generic spaceship, probably from a videogame".

Star Citizen to be "hardcore" would require the devs to move in the opposite direction from where they're headed.

I left rust for the sole reason of it ruining my life. Now I get it. Every game eventually ends up being rust at a high enough level. I love rust, but It’s humans playing it make the game a horrible experience. That’s why I hope CIG make sure only the fun & good parts are part of SC.
