    This is not the hauler. If your part of a mining group, this ship should transfer refined ore to a hauler and continue it's operations

    This makes total sense as long as you can buy extra saddle bags to keep in your C2/CAT to swap to the prospectors and Moles as they run the loop. Could be amazing as long as refining is fast enough. And if not, I'll just CCU to something else ;)

  • @jujinkaisparrow3157

    I may be wrong Mike, but I see the statement of 'large scale operations' just meaning like ten Prospectors 3 Moles and 4 Expanses (for example)...of course the Orion would be another example of this term.
    Other than that perspective I think your thoughts are provoking to my views and make me think more on how I see this introduction to the Expanses 🤜⚡🤛 🍻

  • @Dracounguis
    @Dracounguis Před 2 lety +2

    Yeah you're right, those black saddlebags for the refined ore really should just be a 32 SCU cargo container on each side. Similar to what the RAFT has. Because those are what you would be taking to go sell the ore in a cargo ship.

    Modern metal processing is going to use a lot of grain or powder format metals. More space efficient, easier to move and distribute large volumes automatically.

  • @Dracounguis

    I got it. I am a fan of MISC. The price seemed very good. I'm going to guess it's going to be up around $200 when it's flyable. It's capacity seems a little low. It can't handle a single MOLE. I assume there will be a medium-sized refining ship in the future that will. And my Expense will probably be upgraded to that. 😆 And seeing how this ship requires being able to remove saddlebags and have a ship sized tractor beam I don't see it coming anytime soon. I bought a Prospector in game but I don't own one that will survive a wipe. But I now will have one because of the loaner. And a Reliant Kore, but that's just a starter ship so who really cares, other than a quick claimable taxi to fly yourself to where your ships are. 😆

    Wonder if it will vent the useless material as it refines, it would be interesting to see it create clouds of dust. The dust could interfere with sensors as a cloud accumulates, this would require you to move the ship periodically and stand back from the mining operation. Can’t see many other ways to make gameplay something you engage with. Plus seeing the shenanigans that player’s get up to hiding ships would be worth it.
    I wonder if the material that is refined could be used as part of the repair loop? Seeing the way salvage removes a hull, I figure repair will work about the same and you may need raw material to work with. The refined containers become a directly sellable item to other players in the repair loop.
    The mining ships collect the material as dust, the refinery simply breaks that dust down into smaller more pure dust, which could then be used by repair beams, drones, or as raw material for the pioneer.
    Look forward to the q and a. I have many questions I hope are answered.

    You can transport ore in powder form easier and unloading is faster. ingots are waist space where powder fills in all the spaces. powdered metal is a norm in manufacturing these days.

    I visualize the Expanse would refine the mineral to separate, purify and most importantly, negate any dangerous properties (the quickest process).
    At that point it could be sold, but at a very low profit so it's best to transport it (MAX, C2, etc...) to a refining station that can produce a higher quality product, though it takes more time, costs more, but sells at a much higher profit. ;-)

  • @TomTrustworthy

    4:20 ish While we're used to ingots in games and stuff. Maybe this space game is making the materials into a powder or something?
    I've seen on youtube, people using various metal powders for different things. But who knows really.

    • @dimman77
      @dimman77 Před 2 lety

      Powder and grain format for metals is quite common today. I do small scale manufacturing with powdered stainless steel, cobalt-chrome, bronze, as well as grain format bronze and silver for casting.
      The high end modern knife blade materials are made through powder metallurgy. They just buy the component powders and form them into their blade blanks.

    The concept renders of these ships always look epic. And that is also at the same time the problem with how CiG sells these ships to players ... they are selling great looking concepts and make it sound in their newsletters as if you could get going with the ship right now but you will eventually get it as flight ready in-game in maybe one, but more likely two or three years in a final design that is typically not reflecting the concept that you marveled about when you bought the pledge. This is a very dubious sales approach.

  • @CouchCit
    @CouchCit Před 2 lety

    I'm tempted to purchase only because it may be the first of its kind when released: a player-owned mobile base of operations and transport hub. Expanse operators will be the epicenter of mining expeditions, making them highly valuable targets. But there're too many x-factors with this ship to justify the blind purchase right now. We don't know how involved the refining will be; we don't know how long jobs will take; we don't know the needs/costs of ongoing operations or how the refined ore gets xferred to a cargo ship while keeping the bags with the Expanse, etc. The sale price also makes me question the effectiveness of its refining capabilities; I expected it to cost no less $300 based on potential value of its duties, but now I assume its workflow will be slower/smaller than I initially thought.

  • @animusnocturnus7131
    @animusnocturnus7131 Před 2 lety

    I mean... if there's a large scale mining operation going on, I don't think anyone would mind having one or more dedicated refinery ships around.
    Even if the Orion would be THE heart of the mining operation, that doesn't preclude the Expanse from being AT the heart, right?
    Not sure what you don't get about it. It's written that it's being disposed into trade containers, so basically big boy boxes that you can then take up with a Hull.
    Saleable, probably because you can sell it at TDDs while you can't do so with raw materials. But I agree, that's a bumpy sentence.
    I think it's effordless in comparison to without tractor beams... basically they're selling the "new way" of doing this by a beam instead of using drones to transport it or something.

    My mind says that its making pure materials in powder form. Many plastics are powderized before they are used in assembly. I guess a person could make a lore argurement that a common manufactuing process of the time expanded this concept to other less synthetic materials.

    I only recommend buying with real money ships that will help you get a start in a career type. Refining ships are an extention of mining and is something you should just buy in game (unless you are in an org and want to help miners at the start of a wipe).
    Besides, this ship being so cheap tells me it isn't going to do as much as some people think it will.

    No raw ore often goes on various stage of transformation, not directly into bars...
    first the raw ore got to be reduced into often a more basic forms removing alot of unwanted stuff mixed in it mechanically,
    but then there is some impurity that require chemical refinery and that can require multiple process depending of the impurities type, some impurities are dissolved by some acid which don't dissolve other impurities as an example, etc or you require multiple stage of process to end up with the product you want...
    just take an example of Milk... there is process to extract the cream from it and the butter, then you got filtration and then you can pasterize it to kill bacteries.

    If this ship is able to refine quantum and negate the timer then this ship will be needed in pyro, but its tiny cargo capacity, and the fact it gives the product back to prospector isn't very efficient. Should be 32 scu cargo pods for transport ships like the raft. Keep the prospector mining not doing both mining and hauling

    rework the front ramp acces to store a ROC and I will buy it otherwise...it's a ship that require teamwork...
    witha room for roc then it would become the default carrier for any solo roc miner... that would be so nice concept to land with that ship and go mine while refining stuff in it.

But if you're in pyro, for example, the distances will be alot further that one mole would make more since than a couple of ships with the ONLY advantage I can see is if the expanse can refine time sensitive, explosive material on the spot to bypass the danger part of mining those elements. Otherwise I don't see the point of this ship. I appreciate the more variety of ships flying around but I just don't the use of this one.
