    Stay safe! This radio will help you when weather turns rough. Having the NOAA broadcast bands at your finger tips will help you get to shelter faster.
    My favorite features of this radio:
    Yellow! I love yellow. My wife doesn't so she won't get this radio.
    Weather Band. So much information on current conditions.
    Digital tuning and side lit LCD screen.
    Clock.
    FM reception and Stereo is really good, and reminds of the Sony portables from the 80s-90s.
    DBB-Deep Bass Boost, awesome..really makes a difference with headphones.
    What I don't like:
    Bottom is not flat, so you can not stand it upright on its own.
    Lack of a dedicated FM antenna...you need the wire or headphones. This can be an issue in an emergency and you just have the radio. The weather band utilizes this antenna.
    Overall, a solid performing pocket radio that will keep you aware of any pending weather developments. Gets a recommended buy from me.

    My favourite radio. Maybe yellow because it can be found when using it when traveling or camping. Yellow is also the caution colour. Thank you for the review.

    Been using mine for years. Perfect for am and FM on same favorite scan. Gets 5 NYC stations on an from central Massachusetts. Great sound through my very high end earbuds. Weather Chanel is a needed bonus in New England. Very durable. Great buy!

      Solid radio, perfect for the pocket. Might even fit better in the pocket versus the more squared off CC Pocket and Sangean DT-800,

    I was happy to see the radio is actually a little more of an orange-yellow than it appears in the video. Just a camera white balance setting. I like mine a lot. I really prefer it to the CC Pocket. My little Crane developed a bad tuning switch very quickly so that the radio wouldn’t tune up the dial. The Sangean has worked great for me.

    I love Sangean 400. I have the ccpocket too. But I disagree with you on one thing. The pickets speaker is the one that’s tinny. I can actually hurt my ears. The Sangean 400 does not hurt my ears. The Sangean is a lot easier to use when I’m in bed at night. The my stations is a great feature to have. You don’t have to even look at the radio to find your station you want because you know it’s in the one of the 19 presets

    I just ordered one off of Home Depot. It is my first radio. I needed something for emergencies if the power went out. I can conserve my phone battery and listen to weather alerts on the radio. Also, I love listening to certain radio stations that have great music. I needed something portable. The yellow color reminded me of the yellow colored Nintendo game boy.

      I will have to agree. Sangean is a great company, reminds me of Sony when they used to Rock back in the day.

      @@todderbert OK, I just thought of something since we're experiencing bad weather right now. If the weather Alert is activated, how are we alerted to bad weather?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 5 lety

      when the alert tones are sent by the National Weather Service it will trigger the Sangean's Weather Alert alarm. Then you turn on the radio to see what is happening.

      @@todderbert Something else I just recently discovered about this little radio.....took it camping where the temps got into the high 30s at night. My DT 400W was acting really weird. The buttons wouldn't function as usual, the lock switch turned on the light and didn't turn off, and other weird things. Luckily, I had my MMR 88 also and it performed flawlessly. Does the DT 400W not like cold weather? FYI, batteries were fully charged before I left for the trip.

    I have this radio bought 4 month back, now the speaker doesnt work but with the earbuds it is working. Technician said 2 speaker contacts on ic board separated, need to know where to solder them at the correct location, had sent enquiry to sangean two weeks back but so far no response from them, appreciate your help.

    Todd, I just bought this one and all 7bands of WX I 14:38 get nothing? Do I need to plug in an antenna? I’m about 2 miles from the big weather place in Norman, Ok. I should get something! Lol Thank you!!

      Yep, plug in the wire. C.Crane has a built in bit of wire for its FM/NOAA circuit, but the Sangean doesn't.

    I would like to see a head to head comparison between this and the Ccrane CC Pocket

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 6 lety

      I may do this one day, I just thought it was too obvious of a comparison. That it was done many times before. I know Radio Jay Allen mentions on his site that the two radios were very similar with no clear winner....pretty vague. The Pocket has some great tools, like the Bandwidth control and the 1KHz tuning.

    • @todderbert

  • @Moondog9322

    The Weather Alert is handy, and the light flashes when activated, but what happens if really bad weather is coming in? The radio is turned off, so how does the alert ....alert you?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 4 lety

      You set how many hours you want the alert to run. when you turn the radio off, the alert will still stay active, and you know this by the flashing LED.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 4 lety +1

      When the alert comes through with the "radio off" it will turn it on so you can hear the NOAA broadcast.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 6 lety

      The FM aerial is good for walking with it in your pocket. Not so great as a stand alone receiver at home unless you can extend your wire. I have a wire that is elevated from the top of a cabinet.

    • @migsvensurfing6310
      @migsvensurfing6310 Před 6 lety

      I see. I have a knock off, similar design, am/fm only, cheap chinese thing with a dsp. It does not have an telescopic aerial but only a piece of wire slid into the handstrap (around 12cm long and you have your hand by it) ....works surprisingly well it easy picks up transmitters 60 km away. Its the cheapest am/fm radio I ever found here, was about 14$ ☺ Thats cheap here.
