    That Calvin Klein deleted scene shows Miranda giving Andy some tips on who to connect and avoid to get the job done, sharing enough information to help her with the task. I think the producers decided to cut this scene because they wanted to introduce Miranda as stern and cold at the beginning. This scene showed some side mentoring from Miranda to Andy, a bit of sympathy shared since Andy was new.

    The interview with HR actually lends Andy some credit when it comes to being woefully under-prepared for the interview with Miranda. Also the "well it's this or auto-universe" line feels less bratty with it. Also the scene at the Gala where Andy smooths over the situation between Miranda's husband and Herb actually helps make the whole situation with her friends even more toxic.

    I think the final movie did well without these clips. A lot of it felt like cheesy lines and filler footage. The clips of Andy actually enjoying the perks made the job too likable for her, instead of remaining more humble. The short phone calls, elevator ride, the "thank you" between Miranda and Andy were too much. The final cut really separates their connection and power until she brings the mockup book into her townhome.

    • @alondrita3107
      @alondrita3107 Před 2 lety +16

      I personally enjoyed two of these scenes in theory: the elevator ride and the "thank you" scene.
      Not how they were shot, but just their overall idea. The elevator moment added nothing to Andy and Miranda's dynamic because it cut in nearly two seconds, with Andy shutting up after attempting small talk and Miranda not even saying anything. I personally believe this scene, if it were even added, should've been a full fledged moment. My rewriting would've gone like:
      Let's say the elevator fails. There is a big bump, stumbling, and then little flicking of lights before darkness. Miranda and Andy are quiet for a second- before Andy jumps in and asks if Miranda is okay- before the latter interrupts with some sort of 'fix it.' or huff, or barked order idk. Instead of being entirely cliché, there IS service in this elevator and they will be let out soon enough. This window of time would allow Andy and Miranda to overcome some sort of awkward phase, not become friends, not becoming close, but probably having Miranda end up saying something extremely personal. I don't know what this would be, but it'd be fun to see just a smidge of sympatheticness. I would've personally made this scene to happen before Andy and Miranda go into the horrible showing, and connect it to before Andy finds Miranda while she's fighting with her husband. Miranda could've could've late to their dinner because of it.
      However, no matter how I write it, it still feels very of of character. Like i said, I like it in theory- the moment just didn't add anything worth while.
      The second scene I liked was the 'thank you' scene, but I would've written it like:
      Everyone is seated at their respective tables. Instead of Stephen embarrassing Miranda just once, it kinda happens every few minutes in very little moments. He's a bit crass and blunt, while obviously intoxicated with no real care for his wife's dedication. He feels protective of Miranda, in the way weird 'alpha' men do, which has Andy saving Miranda's ass more than once.
      I understand both scenes were very out of character, and my rewriting wasn't really amy better- but I still think they were pretty cool scenes. I wouldn't have minded both scenes to begin with, as they were very strong ideas in theory, but they really lacked what made the movie bask in its simplistic yet entertaining power dynamic.

The elevator scene is just downright funny, but the scene where Miranda's obviously drunk husband makes the remark to Herb and Andy distracts him was smart then to top it Miranda whispers Thank You. If the scene could have been reworked, I think the one where Miranda gets out of the car in traffic would have shown another facet of her personality and an example of how she was able to become the powerhouse she is. This was an instance where not even Andy had control of the situation. The car wasn't going to move and unlike the hurricane ironically, no factor was going to change to reality of the situation. It would have made Miranda a bit more human because I feel to get where she was at that stage in life, she had to once work as hard as Andy, if not harder to get there. She was probably did once have to realize there was things that can't be changed. She's made it to a point where she can get anything she wants for the most part, practically everything. But sometimes she can't, and when she can't, she will figure out the next best possible strategy, including humbling herself and walking a few blocks to get where she's going.

    ALSO during the party/gala scene, Miranda and Irv are talking about *jackets* 😭
    The scene where Andrea sits on Miranda's desk was actually really cute, maybe her dropping a paper or accidentally knocking over something would've been hilarious. To see Miranda's perfectionist nature have her notice someone was in her office at some point. That would've been cliché, but funny.
    The elevator scene was probably too short. I think they could've made something very interesting out of it, but if they just put Andy going in- eh, it just wouldn't have made an impact. There should've been people to watch and kinda awe at the display, and it should've been after Andy did he manuscript- to show just how intensely Miranda grows to respect Andrea.
