How Fast Is The Tamiya Sport Tuned With LIPO AND NIMH (TAMIYA GRASSHOPPER)

  • I've always wondered how fast is the tamiya sport tuned with a 2s LIPO and a NIMH. I'm very surprised from this tamiya grasshopper speed test. The speed of the tamiya grasshopper is not what I expected with the tamiya sport tuned and lipo combo!

      Hm is this with an 18t pinion ?
      Seems slower then it should be, is it a fake sport tuned you bought perhaps ?

      Then again it could simply be down too gear ratios i suppose, maybe something like a 17t 540 motor next ?

      @@Mini-z1994 Yeah I might try a different motor next. Picked up a couple brushed 20T that should give it some juice. Might be my front wheels too, there's a little play side to side. Might need to put a couple more shims to get them snug. Thanks for the comments and help as always!

    Hello I'm not sure if your setup is correct. I recently installed a Tamiya sport tuned motor with a 18T pinion and a Hobbywing 1060 esc, and mine flies with a 2s 2000mAH. Did you switch the jumpers on the esc to LiPo when using LiPo ?

    • @JacobusRC
      @JacobusRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey man, I think that sport tuned motor I got was buggered out... should definitely be flying like you said atleast 20mph

      @@JacobusRC Maybe get another motor 🤔. Does you esc have nimh / LiPo jumpers ? Make sure you change jumper to LiPo when using one 🤔. Let me know, and make a new video. I want to see the difference 😁

      I don’t remember if this esc has different modes but I’ll check 👍🏽I switched the Grasshopper to brushless in another vid and it moves quick now

    Are you using the Grasshopper stock pinion or the Hornet pinion? The car should go way faster then 10 mph with the Hornet one (which is bigger)

    • @JacobusRC

      Yep, it was stock grasshopper

    Grasshoppers were never known for their speed. When I started out I was racing against guys with TA and TL gear, and they smoked me all day long. So many of these Tamiya cars seem like they were designed for fun, and not competition. If I had known that as a kid I would have gone a different direction.
    I had a hell of a time with mine until I broke the chassis and no amount of glue, reinforcements, or duct tape would hold it together.

  •  Před 3 lety

    I think there is barely any difference because the weak power system in the car is holding it back (but it could still be just appropriate for the size of the car). If you tried this with traxxas rustler for example, the difference between nimh and lipo would be much more noticeable. This car is so small and light that it simply does not matter which battery type you use. This is at least what i think. But for sure, this car looks great. Well done!!

      @JacobusRC  Před 3 lety

      Yeah LiPo has a kick on the lower end, but top speed was the same. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

    I find that with nimh batteries , the higher the mah the more power and speed you get. My wifes grasshopper has a tamiya sport tuned and with a 5000 mah battery runs 24 mph and with 3000 it gets your same 15 mph

    • @JacobusRC
      @JacobusRC  Před 3 lety

      @originalrcfun7368 Před 3 lety +1

      A nimh has in average 10c discharge rating. I had a Rustler XL5 with the stock 3000 mah. Put a 4500 mah lipo in it, and it was a bit faster. Then I put a traxxas 5000 8.4v and was as fast as with lipo.
