Just hijacking this to say, I've watched every captured soldier video I've been able to find, about 30, in the original, without translation, and they are 100% telling the truth, sometimes between tears. Almost to a man they were told they were just doing exercises. There were even two VDV paratroopers who were loaded up under the pretense of military exercises, then airdropped in the middle of Ukraine. It took them 4 hours to figure out where they were. That they would treat even their trained paratroopers this way is kind of mind-blowing. I really do think the Fyre Festival parallel is an interesting one. Add to that several levels of deception, and years of corruption and degradation of the armed forces, and this situation maybe starts to make sense.
EDIT: I want to amend this comment, as I've now seen signed consent forms for "completing military objectives on foreign territories" signed 02/21/22. I am still very inclined to believe them. The language is vague and they were probably just lined up and told to sign, most probably didn't bother to even read it.

It's called dark humor. I first learned of it from a detective I knew. Never allow family near the crime scene when the detectives are there. The dark humor is a psychological defensive devise. You described it well. I was an Air Force officer during the cold war. I was never close to anyplace people were being shot at. I have loads of dark humor anyway. I will never forget the day I first inventoried my mobility bags. The first was helmet and mostly camping gear. The second was cold weather gear for the artic, the third was chemical warfare gear. 2. I am not offended by your humor. Because I, like most people in Ukraine, are well aware that under the bombardments, sometimes, only humor allows you to protect your mind from neuroses.
    3. If we reduce the maximum values of Russian propaganda and Ukrainian propaganda, it turns out that Ukraine suffered several times less military losses than the Russians. I am very happy that at last, at least in something, we in some way, we came to an agreement with the Russians😁👌

On the point 3 you may be right but you should relativise. Russia has knocked out most of Ukrainian air force, if not all of it by now. Most of Ukrainian tanks are destroyed already, and Russian logistics have started to reach deeply into Ukrainian territory. By shear numbers, it may be true that the amount of tanks Russia has lost is more than Ukrainians, but that's just because it had a lot more tanks to begin with, and the losses are insignificant compared to what they still have left.

This reminds me of when nato bombed Serbia. Serbs were all like, yes we gave resistance to NATO, shot down the invisible stealth and what not, but at the end they still came and took Kosovo away from them.
Because you said you're in Ukraine, can you tell me please what are peoples thoughts of Ukrainian president prior to Russian invasion, and thoughts on Azov militia?
Your country reminds me of Yugoslavia in early 90s,when America, Germany and others implemented spies, politicians, puppets to dismentle the country from within so later they can come in and occupy everything "democratically" aka money and corruption.

@@julienckjm7430 . I don't know where you got this information from, but it's false. We started the first days of the war with much fewer armored vehicles than now, and almost no aircraft at all. For example, I know for certain that warehouses with military equipment of the Ukroboronprom concern (those that escaped the bombing) began to open no more than two days ago. now our equipment is being reopened from warehouses, and captured enemy equipment is being brought to the deployment of our troops.
      2. So far, everything here is not as desperate as it might seem from the outside (at least for this period of time) For example, a couple of days ago, when I and a few other guys went to the recruiting station, we were refused because we were told that now the Ukrainian army does not need ordinary infantrymen at the moment, there is no shortage of them, now the army needs technical specialists. So not in all, but in some aspects, we are now in a better condition than on the first day of the war.
      3. Yes, strategically, everything is sad with us, but I'm not going to despair and lie down alive in the grave because of this. There will be a hundred more moments, a hundred opportunities, when everything can change for the worse and for the better for us. We just need to try to be careful and do everything on time.

For some perspective - the last time the Russians came through this area in 1943, just for the Battle of Kharkov alone, they committed 350,000 troops, and took 45,000 kia and about 40,000 wounded. Defending SS Pz Korps with 120,000 troops took around 5,000 kia and 10,000 other losses.
    Operation lasted from 19 February - 15 March 1943
The SS Pz Korps ignored orders to surround Kharkov, and just went head first into taking it in a street fight. Because, you know - thats just how they roll.
... this led to the big battle at Kursk.
A couple of months later in August 1943, the Russians hit back at Kharkhov with, get this :
    - 1.2 million men
    - 2500 tanks
    - 12,000 artillery pieces
German remnant defenders - 200,000 men with 200 tanks
It took 20 days to take Kharkov and drive towards the Dniepr and Donbass.
The Russians took 200,000 casualties, and lost 1800 tanks retaking Kharkov. (thats 10,000 casualties per day, and 100 tanks lost - just to take that 1 city)
Germans took another 30,000 casualties, and lost all their tanks. all gone.
The Russians then rolled on the Dniepr, where a "big battle" was going to develop around the Cherkassy pocket.
Absolute hell on earth, and that was just a couple of pages out of a very big book that was the Eastern Front of WW2.
You cant understand the Russian side in this conflict without comprehending that most Russian soldiers over there are wading neck deep through the blood of their ancestors with every step they take. Same with the Ukrainians.
When we deploy overseas, we take with us our technology, our training, and our history. But we have never had to fight over ground that our grandparents were torn to pieces on. You need to comprehend this when crunching the numbers on this fight.

Yes - the Russian military isn't the laughing stock it is usually painted as. We (in the west) look at them with our views of technological superiority and aversion against own dead soldiers. Russia has always fought with huge losses in soldiers/civilians/infrastructure/economy and is ready to endure them (think about Napoleons invasion or both world wars). They rather wield a war hammer than a florett.
The military experts I've heard (mainly BBC World Service, CNN, various German news outlets) so far tend to fall into the category Chris Cappy argues against. A notable exceptions is Hans-Lothar Domröse, a former German general and chief of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum in the 2010s. His hearty comments are not the 'dominant opinion', but that doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest.

It doesn't seem like most of them have actually invested the time to look into large research treatise and theses on Russian warfare. I've been watching about 5 different news agencies from different places in the world and none have brought up this documentation mentioned here in this video. In particular the 416 page report on Russian open warfare and the battle plans dating from Jan 8, which both are very convincing evidence that Russia hasn't been significantly deterred, and that most things are actually according to plan. @@TheYgds I think part of the mistake by most armchair pundits is that this current fight is not what historically was planned or expected from the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War. A two week at most dash to the Rhein was the expectation back then; IMO this prevailing attitude is simply a perfect example of the old adage, "Generals are always fighting based on their last war", so likewise, people engaging in analysis see through the prism of similar expectations.

Well your trying to give analysis, but I don't think you grasp certain things, like for example you sit there like the rest of the world and you hear that the Russian soldiers have said that they were told it was a training exercise and you added that that might be Ukrainian propaganda. I haven't heard one person who gave analysis explain why Russian troops were being told that it was an exercise. Now let's see if this makes sense to you, over several months they were accumulating troops and vehicles, not to mention the countless number of logistics involved, now for several months you're going to have upwards of 140-150 thousand troops waiting and waiting, don't these troops have cell phones, don't they have mothers fathers Brothers sisters girlfriends. If you told them that they were going to go to war in Ukraine, first they would be broadcasting it all over the place, there goes your element of surprise and secondly it would give them a chance to talk amongst themselves and maybe dessert if they found out what the mission was.
So in recap they were told that they were on a training exercise then once they were told to roll out and part way into Ukraine they were told what the mission was.
