  • An experienced hunter takes a good shot at a Cape buffalo on this hunt in Zimbabwe, but the big bull does not drop and starts charging at the party. The hunter is forced to make a quick follow up shot as the dangerous game closes the distance.

    The Cape Buffalo, Inyathi, this thing will use it's last breath to drag you to the afterlife with it. If your weapon can't dispatch it quickly enough, it WILL try and kill you. It is one of the few African animals that actually contemplate revenge. I respect the hunters who can down one efficiently and safely.

    That was a very impressive full run shot. It’s not an easy thing to drop a cape at a full sprint. The older ones carry scarred over bullet wounds and chunks of flesh torn out by lions healed over and tail missing and it doesn’t affect. These creatures do not go down easy at all. Not many people can say they tangled with black death and lived to tell the tale

    The African hunting laws make no sense there is many calibers that can take cape buffalo. The quartering shots are just poor shot choice in cape buffalo either straight on shot in the chest or a broadside shot. I mean people use to take cape buffalo with 303 and magnum 300. The shot placement matters. A 300 Winchester Magnum and British 303 and magnum 300 drop moose and American bison faster then any arrow from a bow. I mean how is arrow going to magically work better on cape buffalo then either those calibers it's not like a video game we're you hold bow string back and powers up 😂

    • @smokedbrisket3033
      @smokedbrisket3033 Před rokem +1

      As big and powerful as American bison are, they have a design flaw (Steve Rinella/MeatEater discusses this). You only have to penetrate 1 lung to deflate them both. Cape buffalo don't have that flaw.
      If you are going to take an animal's life, you owe it to them to give them the quickest, cleanest death you can. 300 Win mag can do that for elk and moose, I'd go with something that throws a heavier bullet for a bison.

    • @brandonholsather2171

      @@smokedbrisket3033 the 300 Winchester Magnum people use all the time on bison and drops them right on the spot with a heart shot. The hunters that go to Africa now days are bad shots a lot of them. A 300 Winchester Magnum guaranteed can kill a cape buffalo.

    • @smokedbrisket3033
      @smokedbrisket3033 Před rokem +1

      @@brandonholsather2171 what you *can* do and what you *should* do are 2 different things. firstly, nothing smaller than 9.3x62 is legal for cape buffalo anywhere, and even that isn't legal everywhere. Walter Bell killed 800+ elephants with a 7x57. Bell was exceptional, most hunters are not in Bell's class.
      Apart from giving an animal like a cape buffalo the cleanest death you can, you're spending a minimum of 15K USD to hunt one. Give yourself something with the highest probability of success you can shoot. For me, that's a 404 Jeffery. When it comes to DG, there is no such thing as "too much gun." I can stop a charge with my 404J, it's a certainty you aren't stopping that with a 300 WM without putting it right between his eyes. And when 1800 lbs of pissed off bull is running at you, head bobbing and closing on you at about 18 yards per second, good luck with that.
      There is a reason PHs arm themselves with 416, 404, 458, 450 NE, 470 NE for backup on DG hunts. There is no substitute for bullet mass.

    • @brandonholsather2171
      @brandonholsather2171 Před rokem

      @@smokedbrisket3033 the laws do say certain calibers yes but the Winchester Magnum is actually only slightly less power then 375 h and h which is allowed. The reason the laws were changed becuase most lots of shooters got worse at shooting after a while taking stupid quarter shots. The fact is that bolt action 300 Winchester Magnum can get off 3 rounds very rapidly yes I'm aware cape buffalo are fast but if you can't hit it 3 times in a row with 300 Winchester Magnum in chest which I'm sure would drop it just stay home. The laws use to allow even 30 06 at one point. The hunters got job done back then. The hippos I would say no matter how good a shit though even something bigger for them.
