Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Who the f cares if Schoolly D is seen as a lyricist or not. He is Schoolly D, Schoolly is in a league of its own. I'm from The Netherlands and I was one of the first to buy the Schoolly D album. 1986 on a rainy evening went to the Record Store on a Thursday, the day that all new imports were delivered. And the owner always waiting for me to come, listen, and buy. And best of all, he allowed me to operate the SL1200 myself.😃Man, I miss those days. And yes Philly is often forgotten by the media. But hey fck it, we all know better right?! Great to see Schoolly again.

It's something about it I recall just like the yellow jacket bumblebees how strong that look. I used to have some black and yellow tennis shoe joints back in the '70s as well I was very partial to the colors. My hand drew the logos for my cover as well. I can say we used to rock your songs in the '80s on our early b-boy stilo when doing our graffiti or the homies early break dancing in Mid-City midtown on St Elmo.

Great interview, man. Schooly D is hilarious 😂What he was saying about artists being pains in the ass and how he has a small bit of sympathy for labels made me think about the Jerry Heller/Eazy E/N.W.A money issue.
I’ve always thought that after finishing a tour Ice Cube and maybe the other guys came back home and expected to be immediately living large like The Rolling Stones or Michael Jackson or some shit only to find that their lives weren’t that different…Yet.
I think they were young and and maybe a bit naive (as we all are at some point) not realizing or appreciating, as Schooly D mentioned, how much money was being spent on them to tour, put out records, merch, etc…if Jerry Heller didn’t pocket one cent, I don’t think Ice Cube and the rest would have seen the money that he thought that he was entitled to. That money would have come with time. He’s doing ok since he left but I’m just saying lol.
