Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir Season 5 Episode 8: " Reunion "
Summary: While visiting the Louvre museum, Marinette makes a double discovery. First, she realizes that her friend Alix, whom she's entrusted with the Rabbit Miraculous, has found a way to communicate with her loved ones without setting foot in the present. Second, Marinette learns that she herself can use her kwagatama to communicate with the Memories of the former Miraculous holders. Will this help her escape the trap that Monarch has set for her?

I find it cute that the previous owners of the Cat and Ladybug miraculous were in love. The started as enemis then realised they were manipulate, spend time and know the other and became a couple later. That's adorable 🥰They weren't worried about reveling their true identity, Joan enjoyed her lover's compagny. Aaaaw!

Joan of Arc was a Ladybug Miraculous holder known as "The Martir". And if you slow down the moment the pictures of the past Ladybugs appear, you get to see how they look like. The first Ladybug was Chinese and called Piao Chong. There's also an Egyptian Ladybug known as La Déese Coccinelle (the one from "The Pharoh" episode); the Queen of the Amazons Hippolyta; Micazoyalin who was an Aztec warrior and the only male Ladybug Miraculous holder of the past; Tentomushi who was a kunoichi from Feudal Japan; Mudekudeku who was a Namibian girl (the one with dreads); Mudangbeolle who was a Korean woman who fought at the Imjin war; La Coccinelle who was a musketeer; La Mariquita who was a Mexican girl who fought at the Mexican Independance War; Bo rua who was Vietnamese and there's also that unknown Ladybug from the statue. Without counting the holders of the present, the Ladybug Miraculous had at least 12 holders (that we know of).

In France, Jeanne d'Arc is mainly a historical figure who helped defend the French kingdom against the English kingdom's invasion, becoming a soldier and leading armies when she was just a teen. She ended up burned, officially as a witch, but also because she wore clothing considered "unfit for a woman" and because she was a woman with no men owning her (she was unmarried and did all this without her parents' explicit approval).
We know she's an important catholic figure but it doesn't prevent us from studying her in a secular way (also from an atheist point of view, there was no saints helping her, she was just a young girl and she was so brave)
I read she was hearing the “voice of God and the angels” and that maybe was what motivated her to join the army
Yes, according to Catholic sources Joan heard the voices of several saints who told her to find the uncrowned hiding prince of France and lead his forces against the English. She was unjustly burned as a heretic by her enemies and abandoned by the prince of France. While there were many suspicions about her, she was never found to be impure or insane. She was a Godly young woman with a gift for military tactics that a poor uneducated girl of her time had not reason to possess. Catholic historians will say that her vocation to free France from the English was an act of Providence since in the near future, Henry VIII would lead England into schism from the Church and would have taken France with him had Joan not existed.
Although Marinette is aware that a relationship with cat Noir could lead to Cat Blanc, Marinette cant resist finding some way to make things work now that she knows she really does love Cat Noir. Keep in mind that the show is fictional, as a result, it has its own story and history surrounding various historical people and events, like Joan. To clarify, we have known about the ancestors, like Joan, for a very long time, they were revealed by the creator of the show, Thomas, and the shows colorist, Feri, but as of now, they are officially canon. This episode highlighted the issues surrounding the internet where misinformation is spread online by people who do not understand something, let alone are willing to clarify if what they know is true or not, those who accept their word often times lose their sense of better judgment. In terms of Jalil, his experience through social media reveals that there are people who not only grew to hate the heroes and are spreading misinformation about them, but are also pledging allegiance and support for Monarch as well as the power he can grant them. People are also becoming aware that they can harness their emotions to call on Monarch and be willingly akumatized.
I feel like Alliance purposely pushes anti-ladybug sentiment. Considering Gabriel is behind the device, it seems pretty logical it would be designed to showcase any social media posts that rag on Ladybug/Cat Noir or speak positively about Monarch, making those sentiments seem more popular than they are.
The monarch was so upset at the end that he even forgot his line. Left silently...

OMG!!! Next week, we will have "Elation", an episode that broke the fandom... But now that we are closed to "Perfection", I guess Zamber will have free Tuesdays. "Migration" will air in English on May 6th, Derision will be on May 13th and Intuition will be on May 30th (the latter not on US, but in English). At least we already have "Protection" in English... Unless Zamber decides to watch the French and Brazilian versions with English subtitles if the English version takes too long to air.
Not really though, not until the last week of June. And by then we'll hopefully get Adoration in English so she can continue for Atleast two more weeks till Emotion, and after that depends on when we get English episodes 19 and 20 (even though I recommend doing E18 and E19 as a single video because of the continued storyline)
@@amidoshi1909 From the dates I saw for the English version (not just the US), by the end of May we will have "Migration", "Derision" and "Intuition" with English dub. Join "Protection" that already have the English dub, we just need to wait for "Adoration" to have English episodes up until "Emotion".

Nope, Zamber rely only on English Dubbed, uploaded on Disney+ or Netflix, even though an episode is available in English Dub in other countries but not released on either Disney+ or Netflix then she won't see it.

I want Cat noir to meet his ancestor in a future episode and I want to see the other ancestors too. There's so much I want know them their past and stories.

1. The episode title "Reunion", along with referring to the power of the kwagatama to call on previous holders of the Miraculous, also refers to Jalil attempting to REUNITE with his sister and Monarch attempting to REUNITE with the Rabbit Miraculous to fix the mistake he made in "Evolution".
2. After we've seen the aftermath of Marinette and Adrien realizing their feelings for each others' alter egos in "Passion", we now see Marinette trying to find a way to make her relationship with Cat Noir work without causing the end of the world.

It’s interesting that the Guardians of the Miraculous had a lot of say in the events of human history the guardians gave Washington/Lafayette the Eagle Miraculous to help them gain independence but they at the same time pitted two Miraculous holder’s Against each other in a war between England and France weird 🧐
If it is really interesting how the miraculous and their carriers have had an important participation in some historical events, also like the last ladybug known as "La mariquita" which was a Mexican ladybug who helped during the independence of México.
And the truth is, being Mexican, I would love to see or know more about her in a future chapter, it would be very interesting to see some stories that they teach you at school about the history of the country in a miraculous version.

For me Joan of Arc was a historical figure but I don't really learn something in school about her just by culture.
So when I was a child for me she was just a person a little bit to crazy who finish burn alive (I'm not religious so she was just crazy for me)

Thank you for sharing. As an American, I don’t think I would have ever known about her through public schooling. I went to a private catholic school for a long time so only really knew about her as religious figure, so I was curious if there was some secret lore being taught else where 😂
Joan claimed she was hearing the voices of God and the angels and thus did what she had to do. The others thought she was crazy cuz of it
She is both a religious and historical figure. She was a young woman of prayer and purity who obeyed Gods call for her vocation. But she was also a genius at military tactics who changed the course of French history. She was burned by her enemies who hated her and unjustly accused her.
Plagg may just have kicked off how Adrien will discover that Marinette is Ladybug...
A Kwagatama is made from a strand of hair from every previous miraculous holder. Now, Marinette got hers before the events of "Reflekdoll" when Lady Noire and Mister Bug happened for the first time, so it does not include his picture when Marinette triggered the Reunion... Adrien though got his in this episode, which takes place AFTER "Reflekdoll"... meaning that Adrien's Kwagatama also contains a strand of Marinette's hair. Which means once Adrien decides to do a "reunion" one of the pictures of previous holders will be of Marinette.
I love it when TV series use real life people and/or events. It inspires you to do some research and see how much of it shown is true. Always loved Joan of Arc, but man, she had such an unfair life 😢

I think the show you're thinking of might be Kamikaze Kaitō Jannu, or Phantom Thief Jeanne.
She had to battle artworks turned into monsters, but defeating them destroyed them and she was mistaken for a thief.
18:43 I think Nino is trustworthy, that's just my opinion. I'm not gonna type my whole essay again. I can't find it. But I do think his trust will be shown more as the show goes on. He did feel guilty for not being able to help Adrien confront his father, so he'd definitely feeling guilty for saying those things about Cat Noir to Adrien himself. Guilt is a powerful emotion that can sometimes really help someone change for the better and make better choices. Which I know that Nino is capable of. I do definitely think that Cat Noir's identity, if he finds out, will be one that he will protect from causing mass destruction.

Choosing joan of arc as a holder was pretty clever given the location and that she indeed had visions of st michael and st Catherine and Margaret visit her
Although I wish they keep it more accurate with her age she was 17! Was executed at 19 so she would be more excepting of Marinette as it also took people hearing her out on her visions and beliefs instead of calling her crazy

Wow, it's interesting just how differently we remember figures like Joan of Arc. I'm also American, but I'd completely forgotten that she was a saint. My knowledge of her is based purely on her role in French military history. And that she apparently received messages from God, so was killed for heresy. Wild!

You know... her boyfriend looks just like the Latin Spanish voice actor of Adrien, and since Thomas ambassadors are both from Mexico I think it is an nice nod to him there ;)
I like how Adrien is being put up to day, now he knows about the Kwagatama and has his own! Can't wait to see him use it.
I think the idea of the episode was to show how the people associated with the Miraculous suffer even if they are not holders themselves. The story of Alix's brother was complex and on point, even realistic I would say. I think Thomas wanted to show in a subtle way the negative influence that social media may have on your own percepction of the world, leading you to believe things that you were sure were not true (and actually aren't), but people on the internet try to convince you otherwise. As he once said, they only distort people's actions to make them look bad, inserting bad intentions and nonexistent malevolence, thus portraying the victim as the villain and vice versa.
There's something that quite bothers me about this episode... it turns out that Alix's brother had believed a lie and that's why he was elegible to be akumatized and bring Monarch the Miraculous, but Monarch (for some reason I still don't understand) gives him the power of knowing the truth, are you kidding me? Why would Monarch sabotage himself like that? It was obvious what was gonna happen when the akumatized person discovered the truth. I just don't get it. What the hell was that? I am sure there were better ways to develop the akumatization, with Bunnix recording a video at the end explaining him everything for example. Seriously, c'mon.
Gabriel used to go to Emilie to tell him he had failed. Now he goes to Nathalie to ask for forgiveness, just when she is not in love with him anymore. Hey how the turn tables!

Hope we see Adrian, Aalya, and the other holders get a chance to meet their previous holders in the future just like Ladybug did with Joan, that would be very good episode stories.
Downside of this episode was that alix's brother is an idiot.
Interesting, that in the history books, Joan died in the stake; however, in this universe, she secretly escape, faked her death, and lived out the rest of her years with the man she loved.

Well, episode 10 has aired on Disney Channel, and episode 11 will this saturday. So unless she's taking any breaks, she will get to eps 10 and 11 in 2 weeks.
EDIT: So apperantly 10 and 11 came out on the 22nd while 12 came out on 29th. 13 comes out this saturday, and 14 the next saturday.
Monarch really missed out on opportunities in this episode he had the ability to create a magical book that awnsers any true or false questions and this is all he thought to use it for why can’t he create one himself and ask it a few questions like is there any other way to save Emily or even if he can’t unmask ladybug and cat noir directly mabye he could use it for hints like have I ever seen ladybug unmasked or tries to rule out possibilities of who she could be if she’s ever seen her unmasked after all Paris has 2 million people the odds he’s seen.her ever are very unlikely or better yet seriously asked it who wins in the end

For real you need to make a double reaction episode for this one as it has two parts and these episodes are like you were almost watching the finale of season 5, just a bit like for episode Optigami from Season 4.
If you know who Gilles really was in history, the ending of Joan's story is way less sweet and way more horrifying

However, John Talbot actually being the black cat is a very interesting theory, and a lot better than it being a Gilles, I’d have to look into it more

I find the love story between the Ladybug Joan of Arc and her black cat cute, and it's great to see some of the past ladybug and black cat holders.
However, I feel irritated at the fact of how the show focuses on the concept of a romantic bond being the only kind of bond the holders of the black cat and ladybug had for their dynamic to work.
Yes, they don't say it but they seem to heavily imply it. The whole talk about soulmates and being made for each other isn't what the bond of the Ladybug and Black Cat is about.
The factor of them being opposites is to compliment where the other lacks and you cannot tell me that all the past holders fell in love and even when there was love, it couldn't have always been romantic. Maybe some were familial or even just platonic.
What if some of the partnerships were of a sibling pair, a parent and child pair or even just a best friends pair?
Not all the pairs had to be romantic.
I have nothing against the romantic bonds the holders had, but I feel it's a little narrow-minded when all they focus on sometimes when it comes to the ladybug and black cat is romance and not the other type of love bonds the holders could have had which takes away the understand of what the bond between the Ladybug and Black Cat is truly about.
Plus, it kind of makes it look like the point of the ladybug and black cat is to play matchmaker with holders lives making it feel less like love and more like obligation.
Like what if a pair of the holders weren't siblings and were friends but they were probably in love or married to one of the holders of the other miraculouses? Would they have to break their vows to that person because they meet the requirements of the Ladybug and Black Cat???
Don't get me wrong, I loved the episode but after a while of watching the show, I've come to look at the whole 'Ladybug and Black Cat being made for each other ' thing with a fresh set of eyes.
While, I respect the love story concept, I can't help but feel like it makes love feel more like and obligation than a choice.

Yep!! Hopefully we get more episodes of the past Miraculous holders in the future. Since Thomas has confirmed all the holders & shown pictures of them. It would feel like a Avatar episode

Joan and Alya are right, Marinette waste time focusing on her love story (which proves that is a big mistake multiple times)
Like the episode acts like Joan is the one who need to learn to respect Marinette, but just because Marinette has potential and is mostly of the times is competent doesn't erase that she is not taking her mission as seriously as needed.

This is a pretty good episode. Not the absolute best. But it's pretty good. Obviously I don't care for the Adrienette moments or ladynoir. But I love the past Ladybug telling Marinette basically wtf is wrong with you?! Because yeah. Calling someone in the past to ask about falling in love? Yikes my girl! Also Plagg gave Adrien his kwagatama finally! By interrupting an Adrienette moment! I love it! Also savage Tikki returns! Also Cat Noir gets to show his smarts here! ^^ Next week is Elation. It's good but I hate andre.

It's not like this episode shined a bad light on Joan of Arc, but I did wonder after watching this episode if using such a famous religious figure like her rubbed some people the wrong way. It kinda helps that this show's origins is French.
I mean, Miraculous clearly takes place in a reality very different from our own, so they're allowed to change some things about historical figures. She's clearly not meant to be accurate.
This is an alternate universe where many heroes from different time periods and all over the world have fought with the miraculous. It's more a what if using real history
I’m with Joan in this towards Marinette. Joan thought Marinette called her for something important (like battle strategy), but it was for some nonsense like romance. I mean, why would you call up a badass warrior for love advice?
