    With hardwood cuttings always flood the compost first, then push the cuttings in and gently firm the compost at the base of the stem.
    With softwood and rooted cuttings it's different because you would probably have had to use a dibber, and that process leaves oxygen bubbles in the compost which obviously need watering out in the way you are doing in your video here.
    With seeds too, always flood your compost and drop the seeds exactly where you want them then carefully push them under the soil when you are happy.
    With bulbs it's different again. They might need to be planted 4 or 6 inches deep, so we don't need to worry about them moving as we water them in.
    Thanks for your video - beautiful stuff.

    Dear Sir could you please tell me what time of year you take the cuttings as I'm not quite sure I have an evergreen hedge which I want to take about hundred cuttings off I was thinking of putting each one in a small plant thank you sam

      Hi Samuel, the best time for an evergreen hedge would be to take softwood cuttings in summer, other than that Ali on the CZcams clip explains the rest very well. Happy gardening, WgtnCC

      L Silk Hi L Silk
      Normal garden mix will work, but if you’d like to make your own
      propagation mix we recommend 60% pumice, mixed with 40% coconut fibre. You should be able to find both at a good garden centre.
      Cheers, WgtnCC

    hello would this process work for a laurel cutting?

    • @wellingtoncitycouncil
      @wellingtoncitycouncil  Před 7 lety

      Hi rosie y
      You can use this technique for most hedge species. If it’s a bay tree (Laurus nobilis), select cutting material that is semi-hardwood (a little bit woody and a little bit bendy).
