    I’m self taught. So it’s amazing how just a few little tips can change my game. Push when the ball bounces, extra spin + Height gives you extra time. I love this stuff. Thank you so much for this!

      @@ebstmntprobably this tactic works better on clay. Here's flip side if you hit a shallow topspin FH down the line against a super fast player he can run over and crush a crosscourt BH winner and your standing on wrong side trying to recover or chase down a BH speeding cross court.

      Sorry, but PM doesn't understand about physics and spin is that taking it early (like on the rise) is NOT very compatible with hitting heavy spin as he suggested here. Save your heavy spin for contact with the Dropping ball instead of early, on the rise. Sure, she can make a few from easy feeds here with no score or opponent pressure, but in the match, trying heavy spin on the rising ball will just lead to loads of missed shots..... usually long, but sometimes in the net trying to stop the balls from flying long.

    • @guardiancarthur
      @guardiancarthur Před 5 měsíci

      @@AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo There's no difference between taking on the rise and taking the ball on the drop except that the falling ball is moving slower; the ball is the same height off the ground. If you have the confidence (and talent) then you can hit with heavy spin on the rise. But of course you have less time to position your feet, so you have to work harder to get to the shot correctly. But you take time away from the opponent.

    • @AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo
      @AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo Před 5 měsíci

      What You are really saying is that you don't know the 5+ adjustments that help to execute this more successfully. One of the obvious differences is the swing plane for starters, as well as at least 5 other esoteric fundamentals you are missing. Just like PM, you lack the understanding of how spin is created effectively.

    Great advice for a beginner like me. I never thought playing high spin down the line to "buy" some time to move to the middle. I'm always trying to rip the ball (more on the flat side) down the line ending up in stress if the opponent hits a backhand cross. I will definitely put a high spin in practice. Thank you, Patrick! Greetings from Zagreb Croatia.

      That's the modern game defensive mode primarily. Jimmy Conners would flatten the ball and 1 hit a winner 2 hit it deep in the corner and pounce on the net or 3 hit the tape and lose the point. I miss the cavalier style of the players of his day.

    Patrick you are a world class coach clearly based on all of the professionals you have worked with and I assume 1000s of students. One thing I would like to understand is yes I can come through a ball being tossed to me like this easily with lots of spin and good power. The problem is when the ball is coming back at me with really solid depth and spin. Do you try to transfer this knowledge to the student in a more live match or live ball scenario ?

    • @Whisper555
      @Whisper555 Před rokem +6

      Start with hand fed
      Then racquet fed from around the net
      Then racquet fed from the opposite baseline
      Then live ball rallying
      Then out of serve & serve return point play
      Then out of serve & serve return match play
      Then in proper matches
      Don't be over excited to progress until you are consistently successful over 80% of the time to a quality target with a minimum of 10 shots.
      If you are only executing to target 50% of the time, then the next level is only going to get worse.
      Then you come back and blame your coach about how you cant play. 😆

    • @AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo
      @AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo Před 5 měsíci

      the problem is that what PM isn't sharing is that you can't take a tough rising ball and hit heavy topspin with consistent execution. This happens to be the most common pro tour ground-stroke error if one takes time to chart it. There are about 5+ adjustments needed for handling the strong rising ball and it seems PM knows none of them.

    Great pratiktics Patrick . The difficult thing is ofcourse to find the ballance between shaping and driving (as you show her) So you must ofcourse swing faster when shaping. So
    when to drive or when to shape? .It depends ofcourse of the situation. and the surface of the court. The great advantice of shaping are more than one ;.creat .angels ,make the opponent
    hitting out of strikezone and never hit the net.The disadvantics is when hitting the shape with to much spin so it becomes to thin with no penetrasen so one has to feel the ballance
    between shape and drive.Not easy ? Bedst from Denmark.

    This is where we are at with the modern poly-stringed power game, and no one teaches it better than Patrick. I still think that timing is harder with poly strings and all that spin, and an easier game with gut strings. My targets are only a couple of feet over the net, but I hit them every time when I get the footwork right, whereas these max spin players miss much more often, and sure the spin saves tham, but in the end does all that spin help them hit more effective shots? Gut gives you power with more feel and consistency, is that not true? And the proliferation of wrist injuries at the top levels must have something to do with these extreme wristy extreme-spin strokes, no?

    He's emphasizing spin but the more spin you apply the less you go through the ball and the more the power drops off. For physically strong players it's not a problem but many club players can only achieve speed by hitting the ball flatter wtih little topspin. Many elite players have a flattish DH backhand compared with the forehand.

      I fairly disagree with you, his approach is world class, it is much harder to come to Rune and tell him how to hit a backhand slice that he knows how to already than the average player that has 100 of holes in his technique. What is impressive is his approach and build up to get to the final result and eye on why it is not working out depending of what the player he coaches does. He almost always get it right or find an other trick or solution to get there. It is far more complex than it i looks like. I consider myself has a descent player.
