The train station IS beautiful and it IS CLEAN, why are you surprised that it is so clean? It is a pleasure to go to clean countries, like the Nordic countries where the Nordic people are civilised and appreciate how well equiped their country is and how well looked after they are as citizens of these Nordic countries...
Yeahhhh... no all train stations (No clean) helsinki railway station etc....
With population of 5-7 million it's not difficult to maintain cleanliness.
Great to see that you have visited my home country 😊 Even tho this may sound a little bias, i'd say we have very comfortable local trains, they are so clean and sleek. Such a pleasure to get to use them daily! Cheers from Finland mate 🇫🇮!
Joonas I visited Finland in 2018 and I love the trains there.
Haha I lost count on how many times you commented how clean everything is! 😂
Thank you for making a trip report out of my country! I just rode the exact same service today. You got a new subscriber from Finland!
You Finnish? Cos' I'm
Juu, oon suomalainen.
(Yes, I'm finnish.)
Mä oon myös I am too
5:12 the validator on the left validates your paper VR ticket (for trips outside the HSL area on VR trains) and the one on the right is used for purchasing single tickets on Travelcards and validating single use Travelcards. There is no need to validate single paper tickets for travel inside the HSL area. One can also check the information of the Travelcard on one of these blue validators (season ticket info etc).
HSL - Helsinki Region Transport Authority (sets prices of tickets, plans timetables etc for transport in the cities and municipalities of Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Kauniainen, Sipoo, Tuusula, Kerava, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio).
Single paper tickets may be used even the next day? or are they good for only the first 80 min when bought?
Only when bought.
and if you do not have a ticket machine to buy one? only online with hsl app? what if you do not have internet mobile data?@@oulalintula210
Great to see you in Finland! :) The Finnish Flirts are OK as a semi-daily passenger of them, but ideally only for short journeys. The old commuter stock (types SM1 and SM2 EMU) were more comfortable, sadly most of them don't run anymore on the Helsinki-Turku track. On the other hand the old stock couldn't keep modern timetables anyways that well, by my station they were usually 5-10min late on stopping service if they were used instead of Flirt. In longer commuter services a different type of unit is used instead of Flirt (SM4 EMU), which are more comfy and leaves nicely the short journeys for Flirt. Honestly, it seems in the whole Europe that old trains had better comfort than the new ones, at least what comes to seat. Same applies to Finnish long distance trains IMO, although now there are things such as free wifi, power outlets etc. on modern trains, which can be seen as increasing comfort. BTW, I live just a couple of hundred meters from Huopalahti station seen at 6:53 :P
Waiting to see your impressions on long distance trains :)
You are so right - comfort seems to be out of fashion on public transport!
When I rode the FLIRTs used by FGC in Barcelona I was amazed by how quiet and smooth they are
Wow, so clean the Finnish people to keep all the area including the train clean. The train looks a bit similar to Desiro trains here in Belgium, but Finnish are much more space, charging sockets at seats, ample area for the bikes, clean toilet! Thanks for uploading
Mrtribru69 space might have something to do with 1524mm (exactly 5ft) track gauge.
Merci! Yes the Helsinki airport railway station is quite cool. On Finnish trains the announcements are made in 3 languages: Finnish, Swedish, English. Swedish is the 2nd official language, all the stations in Helsinki have both Finnish and Swedish names.
I speak swedish so i understood everything
Great video! Nice to see my home airport and the train ride I usually take from Huopalahti to the airport. Good points you have, and nice humour as well 😊👍🏼
Ja, Das ist Toll ! Sehr Toll ! Ich liebe sehr !! Vielen Danke.
Awsome. Finland. Name gives a cool chill feel. Beautiful interior. Similar to DB Regio. Exterior color and shape is cute. Buddy the seat is hard is good for back. Moreover this is local train. So I think it is ok. Great coverage.
Stunning looking trains. Looking amazing.
Greeting from Slovakia. Vedy nice video.
I like this channel as it reviews trains that normally wouldn’t be like this one an airport train
Thank you for one of your comments “ticket machine easy even for elderly” yes, I’m elderly and easily confused!
0:54 tbh I almost always use the elevator rather than escalators cause it's a bit quicker. The escalators are 2nd longest in the country, 72 m long with 31.5 m height difference (just shy of the ones in Koivusaari metro station)
Wow. Last time I flew in to Helsinki I needed to take a bus to a nearby train station. Glad to see the service goes directly to the airport now.
Great video. Congratulations
Yeees finally you did a finnish train riding vid thank you very much
There is more ;) stay tuned
@@SimplyRailway for finland?? Are you going to ride the long ride trains

1. You are not in a Scandinavian country. Finland is part of the Nordic Countries, not Scandinavia.
2. The cleanliness does not apply to Denmark for example. Finland is very clean in comparision.
@MauriOfficial Finland is definitely not completely different culturally to Scandinavian countries
@MauriOfficial of course Finland is a Scandinavian country. In my book anyway. The country is bilingual, and more importantly the Swedish minority is traditionally heavily upper middle class, so more influential on its culturel ! Finland has also been under Swedish control for centuries, and thus integral part of 'Scandinavian' history.
Defining what the geographic border of the peninsula is about as hard as to define Europe's border.
We have a FLIRT3 on Texrail in Dallas
Excellent greetings from TrainSpotter TV India
My family and I are living in Finland
Sa m'émeut de voir un train sans déchet...magnifique trip et excellente vidéo comme d'habitude !!
Perfect 👍
Thiabault, the Scandinavian countries are noticeably clean no matter which one you’re in. If you want to see some interesting artsy subway stations, head to Stockholm. You won’t be disappointed. 🇸🇪
I wish Arlanda was as cheap as Helsinki. To use the normal commuter trains from the airport there is a massive increase in price due to the airport station being privately owned.
Excellent 😊☺️
The trains look really good nice and clean the stadler trains seem like a good make
Nice.
"the thinness of the seat" 👍🤓📙
Dang, I used to use these trains daily, before the plague.
2:15 although R-Kioski at the airport does sell tickets
hello from finland! im not from helsinki so i ride trains rarely but i have used stadler flirt a few times and metro few times. they arent the best but work alright(metro seats are just hard boxes of plastic as long as i can remember)
U really should try the flirts from dutch railways! Great seats for a regional service!
There is another really good FLIRT here in Sweden, MTR Express (Now MTRX) And their intercity service between Stockholm and Gothenburg, and no, the seats are MUCH BETTER.
But it still feals lika beefed up commuter train compared to X2000...
6:29 LMAO DID YOU FLIPPED OFF THE HAND DRYER
Btw those seats looks like it will make your butt hurt a lot
Great bird flash! And caught it in the mirror, also.
These videos are usually so pure that my wife and I audibly gasped when he flipped the bird
FYI: the costumer decides the interior of the trains. In this case you have to blame VR regarding the seats/seating configuration
I like that the seats seem easy to keep clean, usually plushier seats are very dusty and smell damp
To the credit of VR - well, technically the Sm5 FLIRT trains are owned by a separate company called "Junakalusto Oy" so you should blame/thank them - these trains are designed for trips less than 30 minutes. The longest meaningful journey you can make, is Helsinki-Siuntio on L-train (extended route for night service, stops at all stations). This 51km journey will take 56 minutes.
The average trip is more like 15-25 minutes, and the relatively hard seats are perfectly good for those kinds of journeys. Keep in mind that the 81 trains see about 214 000 journeys each day. The benefit of hard seats is that they are much easier to keep clean, and they are less likely to break. Still softer than some of the newest bus seats, but far from the comfort of long distance bus/train seats.
VR will actually purchase FLIRT trains for commuter/regional train operations outside HSL service area. I hope these get softer sets, as travel times on those services are more like 30-60 minutes.
Nice video but Finland is mostly not in Scandinavia. 1:09
Finnish is an unusual language
Part of the Uralic family of languages: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uralic_languages
Yes but Swedish too is an official language in Finland. It would feel and sound more familiar, as it’s an Indo-European language (a Germanic language, so relatively close to English).
@@yagi3925 Yet no one gives a shit about the swedish language here in Finland. The only other official language here is English because it really matters unlike swedish.
@@elonmuskeli6871
Aina muutama oman pesän likaajakin löytää tiensä tänne tuubiin.
You have to try the FLIRT trains in Oslo
We are getting, and have been getting, a lot of FLIRTs in Sweden lately. Both as commuter and IC-trains, Bi-level and regular. A little tip for 2021. :)
Did you travel in Hungary with train? There are a buch of these kind of trains, and about the same thing with these
will u go do train trip in slovakia?
6:26 😂"🖕"
Well i have been on those trains im from finland
I think that the Swiss SBB used the FLIRT train for the wrong purpose. Even in this video, he has clearly mentioned that this train is good for commuter and airport services. It might be clarified by the fact that buses with such interiors are always commuter buses and not intercity buses. Overall, a truly nice video😊😊
The train he took takes like 30 minute so it’s about the same
1:24 You really are my type dude. Lol!!
Whats with zagreb-beograd trip, croatian railways?
you should come to estonia!!
5-7 min walk? At OSL, Gardermoen, It's 30 sec from the baggage claim (domestic) exit to the escalator.
Helsinki airport has two terminals, so they decided to put the train station in the middle as a compromise. Although the real reason for the placement is probably track geometry (need to have a straight track segment for the station to avoid a gap, for which the London Underground is famous).
Tu dois essayer le rabe 523 type mouette il est trop bien!
Technically Finland isn't Scandinavia. Speaking of which you should definitely come and visit in Denmark, Sweden or Norway. Great video nonetheless
Well the north west part of Finland is part of Scandinavian peninsula
The Flirts are owned by a separate company (Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy).
Looking forward to when covid is gone and we can travel again.
Can you do a trip report in the SBB CFF FFS ETR 610
If you want some very good trip, then ride Leo express it's located in the country of Czech
Flirts remind me of AGC TER stock.
Can you please try Latvian trains?
👍
And you took the long way round, the route in the other direction is a few minutes faster! Also, Finland isn't part of Scandinavia :)
Why is it called Flirt? Is the train flirtatious towards other trains?
Salut merci pour ce trip report scandinave, on dirait une espèce de RER francilien ou de grand métro moderne. Bon voyage à toi chanceux ! Tu connais tout maintenant.
try the br class 745 greater anglia to norwich
When is the overnight train video coming?
apparently Finnish trains have the same appearance as a metro
pegasmik officiel those were commuter trains. The long distance trains are better. And helsinki has a metro too.
@@blinder2786 OK I see
These are for short commuter trips. The trains are very fast to get in and out, many people travel with strollers or bikes. For longer commuter trips VR uses different train types.
Is it possible in India.. Iam from India.. I don't think we can have such a neat toilets in our trains.. Even after 500 years
Ticket price?
look the station is beautiful (shows a picture of damp concrete wall) lol
Why do you compliment this train quite a lot while you didnt at all about the SBB one ? It's litterally the same x_x You shouls go try again Switzerland >>
Even the interior layout and seats are the same. He was critical of it being too much of feeling of a bus yet here nothing about that?
He should try the Swiss Express or the Giruno.
Stadler Rail
The swiss and most west european trains are smaller than the ones in finland due to the limitations of the track gauge.
@@ItsFinRocket what's the difference exactly? Normal gauge is 1435mm
(Finland is not a Scandinavian country 🙂)
To say Finland is a scandinavian country or not,you have first to make a small research to know what are the criterias on which we are based when we determine a country is scandinavian or not. Here are the criterias: -Geographic location (Large part of Finland is from scandinavia)
- Language: Finnish language is not a scandinavian language, but we have to bear in mind that Swedish language is the 2 official language in Finland and in some areas we are speaking only swedish language, another fact is that 10% of Finnish population is native sweds.
- The economy and Social life style: Sweden,Norway,Denmark,Iceland and Finland have same scandinavian economy and Social life style.
Only 2 countrys satisfy all 3 criterias 100% and are Sweden and Norway. Denmark is part of Netherlands as Geographic location, but it satisfys 2criterias: Language and scandinavian style.
Iceland is far away and it is not geografically scandinavian country and the language is different also, but they have same scandinavian economy and Social life style, so it is Scandinavian country.
FINLAND: basically it meets almost all criterias.
When we talk about scandinavia,we mean automatically those 5 countries: Sweden,Norway,Danmark,Finalnd and Iceland. We do not have to try to play smart without Knowing things.
@@MK-jb5wc Maybe you should stop playing smart and accept the fact that Scandinavia is a reified construction widely considered as comprising of Norway, Sweden & Denmark. This consensus has never been disputed and including all Nordic countries as part of Scandinavia is a socio-historiographical error that no scholar would ever acknowledge as correct.
Dear Gentelmen , it is to hereby inform you that the DV list of WB PSC Clerkship exam will not going to published in the month of November 2021.
We have the same trains in Algeria 🇩🇿
6:29 LMAO XD
Plz Come to sweden sometime the loco-trains are really nice👌
Damn those trains are so fucking wide. What the hell
That lift is cool, why not ride it?
Flirt is a Swiss train
Flinker
Leichter
Innovativer
Regionaler
Triebzug
Cheaper than taking the train from Arlanda Sweden
We have really similar Stadler Flirt trains here in Estonia/Estland. I've ride both trains in Helsinki and Tallinn and the seats in Estland are better. And trains are same clean here too 😄 Our train operator uses them for commuter and long distance intercity routes (for us 2+ hour train rides). Fortunately new trains are coming that are designed specifically for intercity routes.
Hyvää matkaa suomi perkele
IM from finland
so am I
Does Finland belong to Scandinavian countries?
Officially DEN NOR SWE make Scandinavia, add FIN ICE and you get the Nordic countries. You often hear "Scandinavia" used as a synonym for the whole Nordic region.
@@mikrokupu ok tack
C'est la première fois que tu fais un trip la bas, non ?
Oui
Finland is not in Scandinavia LOL
Simply railway is bad at everything
ZRH Trainspotter chill bro
Is "Nordic Countries" more correct to group the 5 north European Countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland?
2019
Is this a city commuter train?
Yes it's a commuter train, serving the airport as well
5:52 Welp.. in Spain, Cercanias (Suburban/Commuter spanish trains) service to be exact, the trains have got toilets. Here's an example, search on Google or CZcams: Civia Cercanias, they have toilets.
PS: You should make a video of RENFE trains, i highly recommend AVE Madrid - Barcelona
Consider tying the Hungarian Flirt someday
Is this train comfortable?
It's a very easy train, fast in, fast out, lots of room even during the rush hour. Wouldn't be comfortable for 1h+ rides.
You skip the english announcement at your video. Every finnish train have all announcements at finnish, swedish an english.
Finland isn’t Scandinavian, but nordic
Everything depends on the meaning we put in "Scandinavia"
@@hugo414 Actually, finland is not scandinavian in any way. CGPgrey did a good video about the whole thing.
@@hugo414no. Finland isn't part of scandinavia with any meaning.
@@pupujussi5728 so you think you are the One who decide who is from Scandinavia and who is not.you have to read more and make yourself little bit more educated because you seem to me you know nothing you just bla bla.Can you give me the criterias which defines whether a country is part of scandinavia or not? Of course, you do not know.Bear in mind that Iceland is also part of scandinavia.
@@MK-jb5wc i am from scandinavia. And no, Finland is not in Scandinavia.
6:29 what are you doing that middle finger?
It’s rare to see 3x2 seating in Europe 😱excluding Eastern Europe
We have a lot in the UK (and our loading gauge is less so it’s really tight)
@@jakegtr 2800mm wide trains? Yes it's pretty tight 😨
The Finnish railways have a bit wider gauge compared to rest of Europe which allows the insides of a train to be up to half a meter wider. Also you should check videos of the Helsinki metro. The wider gauge means it is really wide on the inside compared to mid-European ones.
In Northern Europe Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have wider gauge track, so called Russian gauge - 1520mm. It is because rail transportation started to become popular during the time when all four countries were still under Imperial Russia's influence. Two Finnic countries - Finland and Estonia - actually use a little bit different gauge than other countries that were former territories of Imperial Russia. The gauge used in Finland and Estonia is 1524mm.
Ööö Mitä helvettiä! 🤣😂🤣😅😅
BTW: Finland is not a Scandinavian country. Scandinavia is Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
You often hear 'Scandinavia' used as a synonym for the whole Nordic region. But yes, there's a difference.
Yes, Scandinavia is a geographic term. Nordic is a cultural/political term that includes Finland and Iceland (and Faroe Islands, Åland and Greenland)
Maybe you should try the Hungarian FLIRT trains also to compare, if you happen to be there once. They've got many complaints about seat comfort, compared to the old Hungarian rolling stock from the communist era.
I can't believe Stadler make seats that are even thinner than the ones on Flirts in the Northern Netherlands! Like sitting on a wooden plank with a centimeter of soft foam on top of it. Too hard to spend more than ten minutes on, really!
Blauwnet ...😭😡
