As we approach the release of the fantastic-looking Hogwarts Legacy, it's a good time to look back at the plethora of Harry Potter games received over the last two decades. As we go through each and every Harry Potter game, you may start to understand why even non-Harry Potter fans such as myself are excited about this game.

@@retrorebound8887 I think they're a really good mix of book and movie details (for the PC and PS2/Xbox/GC versions in particular; the PS1 versions had some really odd moments that strayed way off the mark) which allowed the devs quite a bit of freedom to inject them iwth a lot of whimsy and charm, especially in the art direction. The later ones are completely railroaded into being gamified versions of the films.
It was especially sad to see Peeves telling the trio at the end of the PoA console game that he would see them next year lol... knowing that he would be missing until the Lego games / Hogwarts Legacy.

Surprised you didn't talk about how great the music was in the early HP games. The soundtracks from Jeremy Soule are at least as good as the John Williams movie soundtracks and I think contribute a lot to that magical feeling of the early games.

That game was so fun, immersive, and covered more of the book and the world then the movies in a final fantasy kind of style!! I grew up with GBA so both Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire GBA versions were part of my childhood. And I gotta say. The GBA version of Goblet of Fires only thing it does better is you only need to play each level once which makes it astronomically better, but it still sucks. My brother had them for PS2 and I never got to play so when I watched him play I never got you had to go back and look for more crests on each level so I thought I wish I could play it. Well many years later as an adult I got a preowned 360 and preowned copies of the first 4 Harry Potter games on OG XBOX and can say I should have been more careful of what I wished for. I also got the last 4 on Wii, the Lego collection on PS4 and preordered copy of Hogwarts Legacy Digital Deluxe now predownloading on my PS5. I played Quidditch World cup on GameCube at my friends place when I was little, but as someone that was never a sports fan I enjoy Quidditch a bit, but think of it more of as a minigame thing.

I 100% was both a LOTR and HP fanboy as a kid in the early 2000s. I also loved (still do) Star Wars. Generally the kids around my age used to love a combo of at least two of those franchises.
Many or even most of us even loved Pokémon, as well. I remember so many times being at my best friend's place, he had a TV and couch in his room even at 11 years old. He also had a playstation 2 with sockets for 4 controllers.
On that playstation we spent hundreds of hours playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, Lego Star Wars 1 or Revenge of the Sith. If we weren't playing on the playstation then we were playing Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire OR Prisoner of Azkaban on our flip-Gameboy Advances while watching a movie like Star Wars or LOTR, or a TV show like The Simpsons. And we had a lot of hours logged on Pokémon too.

Being a fan of the book and movie I instantly fell in love with it and so I got it for my birthday that year. It is janky and so bad it's good, but fuck me I loved that game!
Then when The Chamber of Secrets came out (still my favorite of the movies), I wanted the PS1 version because that was the only one where you play the scene where Harry and Ron outrun the Hogwarts Express in the flying car... but instead I got the GBA version where both it and the confrontation with Aragog in the Forbidden Forest was cutscene-only. Still loved the game though despite its shortcomings.
For Prisoner of Azkaban I had upgraded to a PS2 and so I got that game for my birthday and loved the hell out of it as well, especially flying around Hogwarts on a hippogrif.
The rest of the games I bought for my own money used long after they released but they also got worse and worse.

Thank you Lockmort for adding some footage of the PC version of a Harry Potter game (specifically Chamber). Those are the versions of the initial Harry Potter games that I remember most fondly. I’m kind of surprised Matty didn’t talk about the PC versions of Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets (and possibly Prisoner of Azkaban). Then again, the only way to play those PC versions is to get a cracked/pirated version of them due to their usage of install codes on the back of the cases no longer supported on Windows

I thought about selling my old HP games, but the memories are too good to exchange for money.
About memories: i have two versions of the chamber of secrets: first one was the dutch version, second one in English. The first version was so over played that the game stopped working right before the first duel between harry and draco. For like two years i only played the beginning of the game over and over again until i finally found the game again in a local toy store and begged my mom to buy it again for me

I grew up loving both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. In my area people loved both for different reasons, but never really compared the two. As a kid I played the early games on GBA but never the console versions until last year when I saw a video comparing all the versions by Flandrew. I bought the first three games for PS2 and never looked back. I tried playing the first console game after beating the second, but it was too derivative of the former. I enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban much more than the PS2 version of Sorcerer's Stone.

Sorcerer's Stone I had on the PS1 and I surprisingly had trouble with that one coming towards the end. I just don't think I caught on with that plant thing as a kid.
Chamber of Secrets I played through many times over on PC because I largely had nothing else to do at the time. From what I've heard about the different versions, I think this was the worst one? Either way, it felt replayable, but not very memorable outside of bad acting.
Prisoner of Azkaban I similarly played on PC, but I remember it even less than Chamber of Secrets. I only ended up playing it once, but what I do remember about it was that it felt better. Just not sure what was missing for it to really stick in my mind otherwise.
Goblet of Fire on the PS2.. so I rented this at the time and I think I had fun with it? Honestly though, the part that stuck with me was the "Back again, eh? And there are stilllllllll multiple shields to collect." Decade and a half later at least, I still remember that one line.
The rest I never played. They just never grabbed my attention. Even as a fan of Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman, Lego Harry Potter I've yet to play, though I always found it funny that out of all of Game Informer's Harry Potter reviews, it had the highest at 7.5 (I think Half-Blood Prince was second with a solid 7).

5:17 I never expected someone to open an old manual for a game and say it's boring when nowadays there aren't even any manuals at all for modern games. Also back then all manuals, or most manuals were black and white on the inside. (edit: ok I didnt expect the later once to also be black and white lol)
It should also be noted that the copy of Philosophers stone you have was released after Chamber of secrets, which is also why it looks so similar to it. They wanted to rework the old one to match with the new one and have a game to release while there was no new movie.

Ps1 and ps2 sorcerers stone are very different, also ps2 chamber of secrets came out before sorcerers stone on ps2 so although it “feels” like a first HP game even without PS1 game chamber of secrets still came first….

The Eye Toy!!! Matty THE EYE TOY!!! window washing, ninja chopping, plate spinning, that one where they would mirror you and you had to like fit in a frame or something??? that game was literally my entire childhood with my brother and friends for a good 2 or 3 years. i remember playing a lot of things on 'easy mode' by standing really close to the camera and moving around haha. i would absolutely fucking LOVE to see a video on that. if you do, please go through every different mode in that original game. and dont forget about Eye Toy: Play and Play 2, i never played them but thats the beauty of this channel!
-your friend with the open back headphone advice. i was also on an episode of Ham Live with Paul and talked to you guys about settlement mode in Starfield haha

Uhh you showed different versions of the game for Chamber of Secrets. You said you were playing the PS2 version but some of your footage is from the PC version which was a different game.
Also Sorcerer's Stone on PS2 was not a re-release of the PS1 version. It was a different version using the Chamber of Secrets engine. Did you even play any of these?
