  • My friends, you bow to no one... except these wonderful video games. Following the Rings Of Power release, I wanted to reflect on such a rich collection of classics. These are not only some of the best movie tie-ins that exist, but also the liberations taken with the franchise created some lifelong memories. Now, let the celebration begin!

This channel's a great way to revisit some of these gems (especially under-appreciated entries, like Conquest and War in the North). By and large, media properties were fascinating back then because the books, movies, and games would flow together and create a level of world-building and intricacy that was greater than the sum of its parts. War in the North and Conquest were my favorite games for awhile there
I loved Conquest, and even though it had a little bit of jank to it, I still played it a lot of the time. One of my favorite things about it was the ragdoll effect and how it was applied to almost everything if you could play as it and it has some of the funniest things I've seen in a game. Especially with the hero characters. There's something about Gimli getting sent flying and ragdolling after being killed that just never gets old
I like to imagine how it would be if something similar was made today and what would be added. I do know there's an indie dev team that's working on a remake of the game so I really hope everything goes well for them.

Same lol. Well, I played TTA as a kid and loved it. It took me almost a decade to try FFX, because I had no idea what turn based combat was called. Then I heard FFX was basically the same. And from that point on I got into FF and JRPGs

My parents wouldn't buy me a proper console for years and all I had was the GBA, I played the shit out of the Two Towers for GBA, I remember it being pretty expansive with weapons you could pick up, upgrades, and when you reach the end and there's A MOVIE CUTSCENE OF HELMS DEEP! ON A GAMEBOY! Man that was living.

  • @gentlesirpancakebottoms6692

I own almost all of them:P I own The Hobbit, Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, Return of the King and Third Age for PS2. And War of the Ring and Battle for Middle-Earth 1 & 2 for PC. I also owned Conquest for Xbox 360 but I honestly didn't like it very much, probably because I'm not a huge multiplayer guy and that was basicly the game. It had no proper singleplayer campaign.
Many people like to hate on The Hobbit but I actually like it for what it was. It's a fairly good adaptation for the most part and a fun Zelda like platformer. I think the problem with the game was that it didn't depict the style from the lotr movies and looked very cartoony and childish.
I also like Fellowship for all its flaws. It has bad voice acting, the graphics aren't bad considering release year, but they arn't good either. They look kinda lifeless and boring and clearly shows the sign of a very rushed development.
The combat is a bit basic and underdveloped and the pacing is all over the place. The start is escpecially slow. But I respect the effort of staying so true to the books and give us a different experience from the movies (which I adore btw). I really liked the atmosphere of the game and despite the combat being a bit shallow it was fun exploring and fighting as Aragorn and later Gandalf since the game was very short and didn't overstay its welcome.
There is no doubt though that the true stars on consoles were Two Towers and Return of the King, and The Third Age despite its wacky fan fic story. And the Battle for Middle-Earth games for PC. The others had their moments but fell a little bit short.

There were a lot of gems from lotr, i remember one similar to the official movie games that were in chapters.
Also one of them i really want to play again, a RTS age of mythology style.

I had a friend who told me about the first game. He explained that the games were based on the books, not the movies, so it took the two of them 10 hours to get to Bree. They found out after the first hour and a half that the game had no autosave feature. They went back and replayed the game all the way up until Bree, where they ran into a bunch of barbarians. They had run out of healing items, but they agreed to save, so they wouldn't have to replay all those hours again. The game saved, then a barbarian slammed them to the ground. The save was reloaded, but the barbarian was already midswing. They both decided not to return to the game again.
