Thanks a bunch. Just received a router purchased from ebay. Could not even get pass the initial login after boot. Thank you for pointing out the "break" function in the telnet program, it made the difference for me since I have a laptop (couldn't get any "break" key combination to work) and makes this video stand out from the 6 others I watched before which just tell you to use the break key on the keyboard. After logging in I knew what to do to bring the router to factory defaults.
Hi,good video. i'd like to know,do i need to take the flash card out for doing the method you have performed in this video.. i have 2900 series router which loaded Call Manager Express licenses.do i need to copy the licenses from tftp separately after performing this method.or it will reload along when reloading startup config.
+SAMBA SANCHEZ hi, Just remove the flash card and replace with another card with IOS on it. Or you can try and boot the router with no flash card. It will go into ROM monitor mode and then change the config register.
+Raj radia I have tried with no CF card and it still won't go into rommon mode. However, I have heard about new CF card w clean IOS, but I can't find the IOS anywhere. I even called Cisco customer support and they said they can't help me because it's and old router and the end of service date passed already. I even offer for them to help me for a price and still they couldn't do that. thanks for the reply.
+SAMBA SANCHEZ hi, this is a difficult situation! if you take the flash card out then boot the router. It should go into Rmon mode. Then change the config register to 0x2142. Place the flash card back in then reboot. If this does not work then you will need to get hold of aonther compact flash with IOS on it. good luck.

Hi, yes you can. By breaking into rmon you delete all the config.
