    Tweaked kickflips are useful on and off things, normal kickflips are practical landing into grinds and slides.

    Any tips on learning to delay the flick? I have a tendency to flick before the tail snaps and it rocket flips. It’s hard to shake the muscle memory

      Put your front foot deeper into the board, to where your toes are brushing up on the toeside. Keep it perpendicular. If your front foot is angled towards the nose, and/or too close to the heelside then your leg won't command the board properly when lifting it up. Flick towards the pocket, not the nose, and keep your shoulders parallel.

    hi bro, I have a noob Qn. how much conscious ankle exertion is there in either the normal or tweaked kickflip? I am of the view the "flick" is mostly a kick with the entire leg and the ankle movement is incidental, like in a Ollie. but it takes a lot of energy to do so and some friends say it is because I don't use enough ankle.

      SKATE HACKS I've been a subscriber for a year or so on vegan skate and I've been wanting to ask for a while about skateboarding in isolation and how it affects progress.
      I've noticed that since unfollowing all other skate channels that cover trick tips. This has been the only one that has actually helped me improve, not only the way I skate, but the way I think about it and my approach to learning different tricks without the aid of a video. I've also picked up on a few keys on progression.
      You have an incredible style, a lot of power, and your filmed always gets the correct angle to see what you're doing and the use of the ramp slow motion helps see where a lot of people either mess up or make it.
      I've spent a little time here and there at skateparks when I was younger and noticed how people moved. The flow and grace of movement have captivated me in a way I could never forget.
      The thing I've learned from 8 years of skating and failing to remember how to even ollie consistently until recently is how important it is to know your board by feel and why it was designed that way. They are designed the way they are for a reason. the concave in the horizontal center is really just a guide for your front or back foot (depending on what trick you're doing) to properly slide or flip off either edge from the center.
      Finding balance in your stance/posture and maintaining it is also another huge key to progression.
      a lot of tutorials cover just the basics of what to do (the usual, put your foot here. flick it like that) because in most cases they don't truly understand how to translate it in a timely manner and the demographic is generally young teens so the attention span isn't really there. That leads to them missing extremely important minor details and later finding out how the smallest tweak can make the biggest difference. It's happened to me a lot and for a very long time.
      I'm from North East Georgia and I don't live in a city where there's a park down the road or even 20 minutes away. I don't have a lot of friends that skate, the ones that do skate regularly live a couple counties over and I have no transportation so I'm really just stuck wherever I am. I can't skate everyday like I used to when I was a teen because of living arrangements with my girlfriend and her parents. So whenever I get the chance to skate, I'm by myself and I can only do it for a few minutes at a time, so it's like a warm up between days or weeks.
      I understand as a skater, that it would definitely hinder progression but that's my life and I accept it but I will always love to skate even if I cant do anything but cruise.
      I understand you have a lot of experience and you really understand the physics of the board A LOT better than I can currently, but im curious about your thoughts on the effects short term and long term isolation in skateboarding and how it changes the way you progress in contrast to someone like you, in California, where almost every guy and their grandparents skates or has at one point. especially when it isn't by choice.

    • @SKATEHACKS
      @SKATEHACKS  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for the support I really appreciate it! I don't think I could make a video on the topic since everyone learns differently and responds to circumstances differently. A friend of mine is a professional skateboarder from a very small town and used to do fliptricks alone on a piece of plywood. Skating alone definitely doesn't have to hinder any progression. But it might if you're more of a social person. It's mostly in the mind- the most powerful part of ourselves :)

      22 2099 I’ve never heard of mob flip lol my flip is shit haha. I had heel flips down years ago but I really hate the trick and get a bit scared because landing on it primo like or pogo sticking me is not nice and I just need to get it back and try more I guess. At the moment I’m doing good with switch flips. They are awkward but that’s the process of me learning and getting use to it.
