Honestly having them play flag football was probably a good idea. You get experience running an offense, learning plays, and analyzing a secondary without any of the concerns about major contact injuries.
Definitely. And you have time to analyze defense while in the pocket. There are also rules on getting rid of the ball in a timely fashion.

I feel bad for the pressure that gets put on all these kids out of college, hard to except 20 year olds to handle the massive weight of millions of dollars and fame.
You can be forgiven if you had thought Arch was Peyton's boy, cause from what we know from this video, Arch does take a lot from his uncle. Guys like Ray Lewis and Tom Brady have mentioned just how serious Peyton took the sport, and these were guys who played competitively with and against the man himself. Peyton was always working on his throws, studying film, anything to prepare for the next game, which was exactly what made him great.
That being said, I do advise caution and restraint for any fan that thinks Arch would "set the world on fire" like his uncles did. I should mention that both Peyton and Eli did not exactly have the best rookie seasons when they were first drafted. Peyton went 3-13 during his rookie year with the Colts, while Eli went 6-10 with the Giants. I should also note that unlike Peyton, Eli had a veteran to learn from in Kurt Warner.
Whichever team drafts Arch will be very lucky, but they will also need to remember it's a team game, so Arch will need the right personnel around him to flourish, be it coaches, weapons to throw to, and a supporting cast. For a more recent example, just look at how the Bengals turned things around with Burrow after they drafted Ja'Marr Chase and assembled an underrated defense around Logan Wilson and Jessie Bates.
Burrow was having a good rookie year he just got hurt that was probably a blessing in disguise they got to draft chase

Forreal man it’s before my time as a 31 Y/O but as a football scholar the lore around Cooper Manning to my knowledge was serious. Coop would’ve made it to the league at WR. Who knows if he would’ve been a star but he would’ve had a shot if not for the injury for sure.

With all this hype and from what I've seen from this kid so far...my gut's say he's going to be another great Manning QB in the NFL, HOF type. The Legacy of greatness continues, generationally from this family.

If im not mistaken Isadore Newman was playing the same competition as a small school when Peyton and Eli went there, but now it's a negative because Arch played there?? Lol. Didn't affect his uncles once they hit D1. I'm not saying he will be as good as them but his high school competition shouldn't be looked at as being a negative in my opinion. Normal schools play schools within their region and state. Everybody isn't playing a national schedule and building superteams like IMG academy

Did that stop Davis from being the top ranked high school player...winning a championship at Kentucky...number one in the draft and so forth? @@dpas869 Andrew Luck didn't, but then again he also played at a 5A public school in Texas so there was quite a gap in competition level between the two. I think Manning will be a very good QB, he certainly has the size and the arm for it and seems to be a real student of the game. It will probably serve him well to redshirt at UT this season in order to get accustomed to the speed of the college game compared to what he is used to playing.
With his worked ethic, sides, and strength I think this young man is going to be great! He has an old-school mentality, and you can tell he was very well raised!
Being humble, hard work, and constantly watching game film will always lead to success as a football player.
I actually think lesser competition during developing years is more beneficial than playing better competition. He's gonna play serious competition in college but he will have a headstart on the things that are most valuable and often missing from college QBs. Arch has poise, vision, leadership and focus (Doesnt care about the celebriry). As long as the raw talent is there he'll be able to focus on the intricacies of professional football. A decent example of this is Trevor Lawrence. He played very tough competition all through college and the schedule you cannot lose even one game. To me that stunts the growth of a lot of the nuances and intangibles that smaller schools provide. You need to be ready for players that are as good as you and when that pressure comes in college/NFL he will keep his composure, leadership, and clarity. Patrick went to Texas tech and had much more freedom to develop and skills that a majority of college QBs have to learn in the pros.

If you aint that guy, you aint that guy no matter what the competition is. Regardless of where you go and what you do, you have to dominate, otherwise you are just another guy at the next level, and after that hoping for a chance. Shaq is shaq. Odell is odell. Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers would still be who they were.
As for Mahomes, he had a year to sit behind Alex Smith and Andy Reid before he was ready. Not to mention Mahomes has things you can't teach or coach like processing speed and arm strength- and a MLB pitcher for a father. Even in college he had a rocket arm, and he still did 3 years.
Never forget how much of a beast Cooper Manning was at WR in high school before his injury made him quit. And doesn’t Cooper look like an exact copy of Eli here or is it just me?

He is a beast. My son and I watched him up close during the MPA and he is a great guy and personable as well. We probably wont see him on the field this week with Ewers out, but he is at least 6'5 and has a real gun. If you give him time and that Texas Line looks great, he will be one of, if not the best out there. Great young man and humble too. Great job by his parents and family.
At this point, it's not Football without a Manning at QB. Been that way since I was a kid watching Archie play for the Saints when I was a little kid in Louisiana. I saw Peyton play at Neyland Stadium University of Tennessee when I was a teenager living in Knoxville. I pulled for Peyton when he was a Colt and a Bronco. Being a Cowboys fan, I liked Eli ok.. Now I live in Texas, just outside of Austin and the freakin' LONGHORNS sign young Arch! So I am a fan of the Manning Family. Watched them all my life.

Its always better to compete against the very best teams available in high school, even if you must do it outside of your district so you can become the best! The beatdown in his h.s. playoff game is a reflection of the coaching. I've seen a few highly touted, talented kids over the years play for schools similar to Newman, go onto a big D1 college and struggle badly because the coaching was abysmal. Whether Texas coaching is good or not I have a feeling the Manning family will make certain AM will continue to progress accordingly!

A big loss in a big game early in his life is not at all a bad thing. You don't need to see a player only win, you just need to see that a player has the potential to learn and grow. I expect that Arch is the type of person to take lessons from a big loss. Also, it's hard to judge how good the team around him was in high school, too. We'll know a lot more by how he does with a full team of D1 recruits.

Keeping the boys out of tackle football until their bodies were ready was a great move by the fathers. Bones haven't fused yet; the skull is still growing and the plates haven't fused yet. That is an incredibly vulnerable time.

There have been players that started playing in high school and made it to the NFL. There have even been a few players that didn't start playing until college and made it to the NFL. Not playing tackle football until middle is actually smart in my opinion.
It will be interesting to see if Maalik Murphy or Manning get to start after Ewers. It's still early but Murphy looks really good.

I think one thing that he has that his grandpa and uncles did not is mobility. Im not on the hype train yet, but he is extremely mobile and doesnt appear to be hesitant to run in the right situations, which is a huge plus.

He was the #1 recruit with a perfect score... how is he underrated? I'd be more worried that this kid never willed his team to even a state semi-final in a lower tier hs league. 5 star recruits are supposed to be dunking on their competition and winning state championships just based on their athleticism.
I never really bought into "he's only good because he plays in a lower division" for most athletes. Manning is no exception. There are some cases but they are few and far between. From my experience its usually the opposite. When a Qb is from a school that it is OP (over powered), they develop bad habits because their supporting cast is so talented. Texas spring game maybe be the most watched spring game to date.
End of the day its a team game. Some of these elite schools be having 6’5 220 mfs on the D lone while you have a handful of demented toddlers blocking for you yeah its going to look real bad.

Young players a place to develop is nice where you can make mistakes and not worry about being benched. That's major for a athlete, but you also have to make sure you are playing decent comp. In BB a player hopefully play on a good summer circuit if there high school comp is not top tier. If not you want to try to get yourself to a 5A ort 6A program

Archie Manning, who played for the Saints was a HOF type player who spent his career working for a subpar team. Then Eli and Peyton came along. Peyton was almost as good as a QB could have been. Now Arch Manning is supposed to be the best of the Mannings. I wish him good luck. Hw probably still has a lot to learn. We will soon see if he is able to do that. Of course, he may not start until next year. Best Wishes Arch.

As someone who went to a 2 tier school in high school, you definitely cant write those kids off. We only won state (in soccer) once but we had mutliple kifs get D1 scholarships and one was offered a chance to earn a spot on the Chicago Fire team straight out of high school. (He didn't take the chance. He wasn't interested in playing soccer his whole life).
With that said, my heart goes out to this kid. So much of this pressure is not deserved. I wish him the best.
These qbs come around every few years and generally make it to the league regardless of how they actually do in college. Jimmy Clausen, Matt Barkley, Josh Rosen list goes on...we wont actually know how good he is until hes playing(deserving or not) on sundays.

Quarterbacks who put up stats from lesser competitive divisions aren't lesser quarterbacks. They just need more development when they get into more competitive environments. Mahomes lit up the big 12 when Baylor and Oklahoma were putting up 60 a game. Got drafted, Sat a year behind Smith, and has a head coach who puts in the work developing him.
His grandfather played for some bad teams, but he was very good. He could, out of necessity, scramble with the best.

Hope he plays well, he’s still young. Great video. Remember, starting out Tom Brady was never expected to be anything and he’s one of the greatest. Never know what will happen. I do believe if it wasn’t for his name he would just be a mediocre recruit. He doesn’t play well against better teams and horrible under pressure but that can always change as he develops.
Archie with time and proper development will be a good quarterback at Texas. But if he wants to be considered great it will depend on his growth and adjustment to playing at the highest level of College football(especially when Texas goes to the SEC) hopefully he becomes something special but only time will tell.

The game where he was “terrible” in a play-off game showed a pass to a receiver that hit the receiver in the chest, only to be deflected for an interception. How did the level of competition hurt his uncles?
I watched that game and he didn't look good. Now I believe he's a good kid and a hard worker and definitely has the tangibles, but I think the other team was just loaded with way more talent. He can't will his team to a win. It's still a team game. We'll see how he does in college but his work ethic and attitude continue, I think he'll be fine.

I agree. Pee wee football can hurt a kid. I know.I was ok with it but some coaches unlike mine prepared us with fundamentals and full on PT and workouts to prepare the body even though it's still developing. It is better to wait till school though .

Note how he avoids pressure but never takes his eyes off the WR's. The people that understand how to evaluate a pure QB know why this guy has a high ceiling. He's a PASSER first and a RUNNER only in dire circumstances, which means, LONGER career and a HIGH level.
Texas had to learn that you can't just buy a kid that comes from a half billion dollar fortune.
Lets not forget, recruiting isn't just about talent, its about $$$$. The manning name will bring an unbelievable amount of revenue to whatever school he goes to. Which is exactly why if his name was Arch Smith - he wouldn't be anywhere near consensus #1 QB.

i knew payton was good early but i didn't believe in eli. in the end eli proved me wrong about his ability and leadership. i wont make the same mistake with Arch. while i don't expect him to be blowing away teams early or even starting his first year at texas i do expect that he will uphold the tradition of his family and to the craft of football and eventually make some team very happy in the NFL.

Football is in their blood because of his grandpa, Archie Manning, who happens to be a quarterback in his own right. Archie taught his sons’ how to play the quarterback position. However, The Manning brothers surpassed their father as being the greatest quarterbacks in football history. Archie played for the New Orleans Saints in the 70s, so he never played in the Super Bowl. Peyton and Eli have both played in the Super Bowl and beat their opponents. I feel Arch is a mobile quarterback than his uncles’ and have better arm strength. Dang! His passing yards is unbelievable and his rushing yards is also incredible. I would thought he would go to Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas, SMU, LSU, Clemson, Virginia and Georgia. By looking at his high school football stats, he was the first freshmen to play on the varsity team at his school. He was unbelievable as a player who rarely ever threw interceptions. He chose the Texas Longhorns because he feels that he can win and bring them a national championship there.
