She is my all time favorite Roxie....just from the few clips I've seen. No one even comes close to her natural delivery of this character. Such talent.
The audience was very receptive to Melanie. She has been criticized for her baby-doll voice, lick lipping, and mannerisms but I think they are all charming. I think Antonio was across the street in another musical.
Thanks for sharing! I was fortunate to be there for this magical evening. Melanie performed the monologue twice that night. A loud mechanical fan sound was going off during the whole monologue making it difficult for the audience to hear, but she soldiered through it. Once it finally stopped; she took it from the top and did it again!
She might not be the best singer or even dancer, but she is absolutely captivating. I'd rather watch her in every scene than some other celeb that can do it better. I love Melanie. P.S. When did she do this? Thanks for the share.
She was WAY better than Pamela Anderson as Roxie, I can DEFINITELY say that. Besides, Pamela NEVER played Tess McGill in Working Girl, which is my FAVORITE role of Melanie's. Oh well, guess I'm biased then.
I’m really surprised by all these positive comments. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen so many Broadway shows, and I know what real Broadway performers are like, I just think she’s awful. It seems like she’s just going through the motions. Like, she’s just Melanie Griffith, talking not acting, kind of singing and kind of dancing.
Not a great performance, she has the acting and charisma but this takes singing and dancing and those she lacks. The only worse performance by a star I remember was Ann Margaret in Little Whorehouse...
She works the stage wonderfully !!

You have some great archive footage!
Thank you! More to come....
I would love to see her in the whole play!!! She’s so charming and sexy! 😍
She reminds me a lot of Ethel Merman in this segment. 😉

As far as stunt casting goes, Melanie was not a bad choice.
Nice. You are not an actor if you have never or will never Thespian. Melanie is an actor.
Holy shit my ears
