  • Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster, Rosewood Fingerboard, 3-Colour Sunburst Overview
Crafted in close partnership with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, the Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster serves as a tribute to the gritty, impactful tones that have cemented the band’s reputation in rock’s illustrious lineage. If grunge music speaks to your soul, this Stratocaster is a worthy addition to your arsenal. The Mike McCready Strat is also a great option for guitarists who want the period-correct specs and authentic worn-in wear of Fender Custom Shop guitars at a more affordable price point.

It was such a pleasure to listen to a video commentary this clear and relaxing without horrible background music crowding out the vocals. I learnt a lot listening, so thank you for this, I love rosewood fretboards and this is close to what I want in a strat. I'm tempted by this, but not quite there yet.

I love this concept. I much more enjoy this kind of video, then the shorts, youve been makeing.
I suggest, putting small sound samples between the spoken word, so the videos will have bit more better paceing 👍

I think a lot of people have a misperception of “slab” fretboards and speak about them as if they’re unique to vintage Fenders. The thinner “round lam” fretboard was only produced from mid-‘62 until ‘83, when Fender switched back to slab boards. So if you have a Strat built from ‘83 on, you have a slab fretboard (unless it’s a reissue of a ‘62 to ‘82). Round lam boards are way more rare, as even most reissues are of the slab board variety.
Nice video, though if you’re a huge McCready fan, I’m not sure why you’d want to swap out the pickups that were designed to mimic his sound. But to each his own.

Great rundown. Set out looking for a review of this guitar and this was spot on and told me everything I wanted to know. Think I"m going to pass on the guitar though after your review because the weight and pickups. I like a lighter strat too and if they could have got it down to 7 pounds or less that would be better. Also, I don't want to buy a new guitar and then immediately swap out the pickups to something better. But I'm glad you posted this honest review

Joss, how to the fingerboard edges feel? Are they rolled at all? I’m going to be buying one of these when they’re back in stock. I super excited! I’m just hoping it plays well.

How would you say the neck profile deviates much from the usual standard mexican player series slim C? I have the Mexican made Jimmy Page dragon tele and that was advertised with an oval 60s slim and its such a nice profile, starting super slim and then chunking up towards the body of the guitar, is this in the same ball pack as that?

  • @valjatriogina228
    @valjatriogina228 Před 7 měsíci

Its a 2 piece body! You can see that easily, when you look into the tremolo cavity! Your strat body has the seem a little bit off center upwards .Really easy to see, even on a small tablet display.

Thank for this video, I'm pondering on buying one of these. The only thing that's giving me pause is that in the marketing stills popping up on the internet, the top E string looks perilously close to the edge of the fretboard, worsening the higher up you go. I asked a retailer (here in the UK) to send me some photos of the one they actually have and this issue was also present on theirs. Can I ask if this is evident on yours?

    • @JossAllenGuitar

I have the same issue on the Fender Jimi Strat , high E slides off fretboard as its precariously close to edge due to its build.

My only gripe on these is the finish. I had the the Joe Strummer MIM signature Tele which did feel great in the hands but the finish / road worn look
was phoney looking as all hell , so much so I sent it back. I've heard this finish isn't as bad but along the same lines. Its almost like a sticker finish. IMO the vintera road worn finishes are a better more realistic look., not that they're amazing but are decent. Either way its a quality guitar I'm sure and you sure as hell are a great player. Enjoy it brother.

The Road Worn 1960s Strat is basically the same guitar (without the case) that you can find for $400 less. CME still has them. Now we know why it was never available in Sunburst! They were saving them for the McCready run. :) I got one in red. Not expecting my McCready to feel any different. We shall see!

The $1200 Cobain Road Worn Jag from the early 2010's is essentially the equivalent to the limited 60 piece Custom Shop run of the McCREADY Strat that sells for $22-25k. This mass produced RW version's relicking is the half baked, half assed general release for $1900. The quality and accuracy on the wear is sad for the money.

Sorry, but this guitar isnt worth its price. Its definitely a must have for mccready fans but for those of us who arent its just not worth it. Here in Australia its over $3K.
