They " went through hell and lived ( no suicide ) to tell the tale " .....and I would add, conveyed it across many boundaries present within the appreciative audience, glad to hear, their own personal trauma situation of whatever circumstance defined for them. Also to others in the mix, the enlightening revelation regarding the coping problems many others in the world, in many other types of circumstances, are suffering due to triggers embedded in culture that are unrecognisable to most of the population.
Triggers they might, themselves, have been unaware of activating and are now refusing. A new way to evolve society and humanity has been articulately and entertainingly defined. This example uses two situations around which to highlight the abuse of power and the trauma it causes to both the abused and the abuser and also society.
I remember when, in the 70's a teenage boy in school could be ridiculed in front of the whole school, by grown adults, then expelled for the ' social crime ' of growing his hair long enough to overlap his collar. He would be ridiculed as ' disgusting,' 'gay' and ' like a girl.' So the young students present were then receiving the message that society definies gays and girls as disgusting and at fault. Worthless misfits when compared to rule and boundary keepers. Rules made by those with the most muscle ( power, both physical and financial ) who would benefit and profit, by the rules made, the most. Sometimes with the support of weaker people who would cave to them and ride along in their powerful wake profiting from the power by betraying their true selves by behaving in a socially approved manner. Thank you Hannah and Monica for the whole incisive perspective and the perfect way it was presented. A gift to benefit and further humanity.

Good discussion . Gadsby is not fluent because she is so reflective.
reflects upon how we mistake fluency of word for that of thought.
Some people just don't do small talk. She describes her stage work as a recitation in her TED talk.
Striking work on story telling, from both women.

Seeing this genuine interaction, allowing the awkwardness and pauses to find the right words without judgement or pressure, truly brings me joy. What Hannah said about your community understanding your story and feeling your pain along with you being how we're able to feel safe, I think says why I think the need (or mine at least) for emotional validation is so strong. How many times I've heard to not worry about what others think; but that is so difficult to do when knowing somebody else shares your feelings is such a powerful healer. How do we address prejudice if we're meant to simply ignore the harmful beliefs held in our cultures?

Even the best intentions can come out horribly wrong, if either or both of the parties involved aren’t able to see themselves clearly.
